NPD Sales Results for October 2015 [Up1: Xbox #1]

But that isn't the case for Halo 5. Ehh.. I really wish Microsoft would release something. I doubt Halo 5 only did 2 million WW first week (unless its digital sales were insane). I mean decline's happen, but pre-order's (according to VG-youknowhat yes, bad site, but hey) were at about 700k 3 weeks before release.

shit happens. some were soured over the last two releases, some were tired of halo, some moved on to ps4 and pc, some haven't upgraded yet, a lot of big games are releasing in the next two weeks etc...

Are you talking about cosmicqueso with this quote?:

Some months there are titles that sell in the 7 digits in one month.
Other months there aren't.

That seemed to be some random post he made since he didn't quote anyone and he hasn't been back in the thread since. Why would he make that comment and then just disappear? Hopefully dude doesn't end up getting banned. Reminds me of that 7k-10k post from Cboat.

Because that is what he does. He has done that a couple of times in this thread, and that is normally how the first little NPD info gets leaked, through little hints. It it sold over a million, then I have no idea what Queso meant by that post.

Halo under a million? Halo? I need sugar before I can fully believe that, but wow. Halo is supposed to be a titan.

I honestly kind of expected. I've been saying Halo has been on decline (saleswise) since Reach. If what's been said about Halo 5's sales is true, and it continues to sell relatively low compared to its predecessors through the holiday, this the proof.

1st party sales will probably decline across the board, well for sce and microsoft at least, the big third party sales will just seem normal as everything else just kinda dissipates

I seriously hope not. Within context, Sony's first party sales have been pretty great across the board (with a couple of exceptions) despite many of the games being of questionable quality. I mean killzone sold great, Infamous sold great, Bloodborne sold great. Even Until Dawn did really well despite being sent out with little to no marketing. I feel if Uncharted 4 releases with enough critical acclaim it could very easily be the best selling in the franchise. Using Halo 5 as an example of dwindling first party sales is not fair imo for the number of reasons people have pointed out already.

Could be referring to Assassins Creed? Who knows.

Need some pie you'all

The denial around Halo numbers from some is real. Its going to take a while to sink in for some just how much that franchise has fallen off.

This gen I haven't even showed up on NPD. Both consoles were bought direct from the manufacturer and every game I've purchased has been digital.

Some folks have already answered, but yeah, that wasn't his first reply to this end. Plus the fact that he looks to have been backed up by John... it doesn't look good.

I know they can, i didn't say anything about debuts either. the costs are just ballooning and being subsidized by secondary costs via microtransactions, like req packs in halo, and the naughty dog points in uc4, they already know they won't get money through just packaged sales...pretty much what space cheese has been saying for the most part

Of course they going to get money from packaged sales .
Only way that don't happen is if UC4 flops .

Earlier in the thread he also said VinFTW had a crystal ball when he expected under a million sales. He's been vague because he's leaking proprietary information. But when he and John Harker say the same thing, you can cash it.

You would be surprised by the amount of data you can extract from cheese, let along a cosmic one.

Well

Read OP, see overall 3% Hardware increase, see X1 up 81% from last year.

Figure must be good news.

Read a few pages across thread, seems I'm wrong and is horrible.

LOL

We like to joke about our anecdotal friends but you can't dismiss digital for Halo since it's been getting a bigger chunk of retail all the time. Still, the serious declined. They should have followed up on Halo 3 a lot sooner than they did with a proper Halo 4 - not ODST or Reach without Master Chief. Instead 4 and MCC both damaged the brand over those last 3 years and it's not going to be in the sales stratosphere it once was.

As far as PS4, $50 was just not meaningful in anyway when XB1 has been there for a year. But Destiny carried a lot of momentum for them last Fall and a lot of people are waiting for CoD and Battlefront bundles, we've already seen the preorders stack up in the months prior. If November and December aren't as huge as everyone thought they would be, as in much bigger than last holiday, then yeah, we can call this Gen front loaded.

yea i highly doubt uncharted 4 will have a decline. that title is going to sell better than uncharted 3 especially releasing during march.

We did hear about it being the best selling. Still, I can't seem to think that the post was fishy. Remember Cboat? Look, it could be right. But having a 65% decline in one series seems extremely unlikely.

Honestly when you Include digital and bundled copies I'm guessing it's about a 50% decline and when you think bout how big halo was then to today it's not great but it's also not that unlikely

I guess a chunk of the Halo fanbase jumped ship to Destiny but still a surprising collapse. What's a reasonable estimate of worldwide lifetime sales target for Halo 5 now? 3-5M?

AC below NBA means what? 500K? Lifetime target of 2-4M?

Really competitive in terms of software releases the last 4 months of this year even without including the seeming growing strength in sports games. I can see Ubisoft really suffering this holiday season. Also don't know if Tomb Raider will get reasonable sales.

We are all so focused on Halo but dudes

AC sales nust be TERRIBLE as well. 2 franchises that have just totally collapsed in comparison to what they were at their peaks

I know a lot of people who traditionally would have bought Halo but are playing Destiny instead. The market can probably only support 3-5 FPS games tops, especially with how long the tail is on games now.

oops i phrased that wrong

i mean to say cover development costs

That should be easy unless UC4 flops .
Sony make around 35 to 40 a copy and we not counting DD sales .
If UC 4 sell 5 million in it's first month they will easily cover everything .
Can't cost more than 100 million to make and for marketing .

Well they both have something in common bad WOM after the last game.

PS4 selling less than last year even with a price cut is all kinds of crazy. It had the entire month with the Uncharted bundle. Don't think it's because of Halo seeing how XB1's sales aren't too hot either, and the gap isn't big (from what was hinted anyway).

So what's going on? People finally realised it's better to buy these consoles in November?

Goddamit I expected too much from PS4 price drop. I should've known such a small price drop wasn't gonna do shit.

Michael Pachter redeemed.

Oh yeah...........Amazon fail majorly hard. Pre orders be damned.

If yoshi charted I think XCX may actually chart in December.

Xenoblade would have to sell 500K at the minimum, and December in general would be a disaster if freaking Xenoblade made it up there. Open-world RPGs may be popular, but not on the Wii U's tiny install base.
