NPD Sales Results for October 2015 [Up1: Xbox #1]

What a time to be alive.

After so much time in the cave, staring at shadows, NeoGAF is now free to stare at the light of truth. It will burn your eyes at first, and you may want to return to the comfort of the cave. But fear not! Your eyes will slowly adjust to the sun and you will never again wish to return to the darkness.

Seems George is legit then .
Man i hope the ninjas don't get him but George don't seem to give a fuck lol .

Good to know.

Thanks fot the confirmation.

I think people are seriously undervaluing digital sales for halo...used to be a small part of the sales of a game but I think with preloading and midnight unlock games like halo probably have as much as 50-60 percent of their sales there

The Halo 5 sales are very poor. I think Halo 4 and MCC really hurt the franchise. Doesn't help that COD and BF are both releasing right around it too. Now it's just another big game. It's more in the Uncharted category. It's still a huge exclusive, but it's no cultural event anymore. The sales of Halo 5 and AC show me too that people are ready for some new IPs. Especially when you compare them to how well Watch Dogs and Destiny have done.

Holy shit at Assassin's Bomb, those numbers are beyond terrible, keep in mind that AC3 sold 2.9 million on NPD & 13 million WW. Syndicate is a literal bomb, even more so than Halo.

This thread is crazy.

And I really hope that November's numbers are better because this is fucking depressing.

Whatever happens I just hope NPD_George is there in November to give us the truth.

Goddamn, this sounds like confirmation that NPD George is indeed legit. Wonderful news of true!

Even if we do 50% digital (which is an unrealistic number), that still leaves Halo 5 as the worst selling mainline Halo ever and by a big margin.

No. Much more like 25-30%

This reminds me so much of the GAF meltdown last holiday when CBOAT posted his infamous "7-10k". Everyone took that at face value and went into hysterics until the official PR came out and we found out it was actually a bloodbath. Just saying this could be very similar.

That said, these numbers (935k) were not including digital, and only for one country. Maybe the game performed better in EU or even digitally than people expected? Still struggling to come up with $400 million, but that's MS PR for you.

Edit: Thread moves so fast I missed the confirmation. Disregard above lol.

So, we have ( including bundle):

UK - 150,000
US - 935,000

UK+US - 1,085,000

I think US+UK is around 70% of WW market for XB1, or even more, so, i think 1.55 million for Halo 5 first week WW seem legit.

If we including digital, 1.7-1.75 million. Not more.

It doesn't work like that because Xbox owners outside those two markets don't care about Halo anyway.

So looking at this graph and the even just looking at September 15 to October 15 I am convinced people are deferring purchases to November. I guess if there is a silver lining is that HW sales are up YOY, hopefully that trend continues this month and the next.

Personally the Star Wars and COD bundles at a reduced price would have been a far more enticing option than the October fare, and if you could wait one more month for Black Friday you would be saving even more. November sales have conditioned people to wait it out in October I think. I know people that refuse to buy AC at release because EVERY year it is on sale a month later for $35 or less.

Personally I imagine around 300% of sales and hardware being purchased digitally. Huge shift this gen

Lol, no chance. And you stand to get the game a day or two early buying retail copies from etailers, which is considerably more enticing than a midnight preload, especially when etail purchases are usually cheaper to begin with.

Most publishers (and insiders) have been saying ~20% but growing. I find it hard to believe that Halo 5 would smash that trend and sell over half its copies digitally. That seems overly optimistic.

It's Xbox and Halo. It didn't perform better in Europe.

If you take a Pie and divide it into 10 equally big pieces, then give 9 of the pieces of cake to your friends. You are left with one piece of cake. What colour is it?

XBOX and Halo are doing amazing. Good for them, well deserved.

Being no.1 doesn't always mean good especially without numbers. Now with numbers it's a different story. And there's nothing amazing about Halo or Xbox here except how they amazing underperformed.

Let me guess all your mates bought it digital? :p

Haha, yeah this is a sales thread where we are all having an intellectual high brow discussion about how software and hardware revenue is affecting the hobby we all love and what kind of impact this will have moving forward. That's what I'm getting by reading this thread . . .

Such enlightenment such insight.

There is no persecution complex, I'm just calling it how I see it. Maybe I'm not reading it the same way as some of you :)

Seriously, if you have issues with sales threads, don't come in. That's what this is for. For discussion and speculation based on trends and performance. If a major franchise fails to live up to previous expectations, that's a source of discussion, so acting like people are just trying to use it to bask ms or 343 is a strawman.

Please stop with the passive aggressive crap. If you see someone being a blatant troll bashing on it, pm a mod or call them out, rather than just commenting in some super generalizing way.

Perform better in EU how ?
MS sales are not that great over there and Halo always got most of it sales from USA.

What.

A.

Twist.

Such an entertaining thread to be sure.

November... Oh you are a month with some high expectations to provide as much lulz as this month.

Not even close... Or did you want to say 15 Millions?

Am I the only person who thinks it's strange to put an (s) at the end of Million when you specify a number in front of it??

I see this all the time, and have no idea why it bothers me.

"They sold 15 Million" looks right to me.

"They sold Millions" looks right to me.

"They sold 15 Millions" just looks and sounds strange. Why do you need the "s"?

Haha, I know it's a bit OT...but why does it annoy me...I suppose it's right or correct grammar either way? I see a lot of people say that, but then many don't. We were never taught to put an "s" on numbers if the actual amount comes before it.
