He said that the company didn't want troubles with bad press about how they treat women.
He was also a bit aggressive.
Exactly, Dragon's Crown eventually released and sold over a million copies.
Same with DOA5 itself which went through the whole 'controversial' aspect, it still sold over a million, and that's before their DLC and costume scheme kicked in.
They silenced the guy who said the truth about their business perspective. I think that's true enough. There's no reason the other Xtreme games could make it over and not this one outside of their weak attitude.
Part of me feels bad for the guy because he clearly isn't a native english speaker and the choice of words could have been better nuanced. But there is no doubt in my mind that he is saying what KT is probably feeling internally.
Its not just the games themselves though, its also what they are doing with DLC (as seen by DOA5, 5+, Ultimate through to 5LR). I also feel like what we saw with them though is gonna be nothing compared to how far they go with DOAX3 considering that the starting point is already bikinis...
The question should more so be why bother making a DOAX3 at all if we go just off the bolded.
According to wikipedia, DOAX2 was in 2006. A lot has changed in 9-10 years in terms of how games can be financed (Digital Retail, F2P, Microtransactions etc) and other cultural factors (increasing effects otaku-revenue has domestically).
Theoretically,
X3 as a game could sell the same or even worse than X2 but be dramatically more profitable for them thanks to being able to increasingly target (and even artificially induce) whale like behaviour. Consider the poll process that required players to buy something to get their vote. They claimed they only had time to do work for 9 characters. They decided to optimise their revenue potential by using characters who would be most likely to inspire the portion of the fanbase who were ok with parting with additional finances.
They probably do not cost that much to make, and can be monetized up the wazoo with DLC just like all of K-T's titles. So they have a small but dedicated base of fans willing to pay hundreds of dollars per sale, making it worthwhile in the territories they are releasing it in.
Indeed. When KT report their digital revenue financials after X3 is out, we will probably see that their filtering process worked.
Pretty sure her age is 18
don't do this guys... we all know this ends up leading to the same circular arguments that people will just agree to disagree on.
