Official statement from Koei Tecmo Games regarding DEAD OR ALIVE Xtreme 3

Crossing Eden

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
Money is being taken out of her pocket. She has every right to say what she said. And income refers to money in general, not in totality.
Considering that feminist ideals have nothing to do with this game coming to the west it's a bad move on her part. Especially since it was probably decided early on that they weren't gonna release this west, it was announced for Eastern markets only.

All these threads about some trivial hentai game. The internet could do with a purging of all anime avatars.

Along with about 65% of internet users.

They're everywhere man.

They're one and the same. K-T is ashamed of their little money grab creation in Marie Rose. whoops, we can't get away with her in a volleyball game that is supposed to ooze sex by design.

They should still release it, at least own it, but here we have pretty much direct admission about Marie Rose being made to appeal to pedos.

Preach it. No escape from the truth; Despite its prevalence in Eastern cultures.

Nothing is being taken out of her pocket. That's ridiculous.

You're arguing semantics. She's missing work because of this, she has a right to be pissed. She's deleted the tweet, showing that she understands that it's probably a bit bigger than her, but she has every right to be pissed.

EDIT: To be clear I mean the part where it's not being released here, and thus she's out of a job for now, not necessarily any other thing.

holy shit

i guess this is who i'm posting on this board with

As shocking as it is, it doesn't change the fact it's a real discussion point and the research that's already been done on the subject. Not everything is black and white, and human sexuality is one of the most grey things out there.

Doesn't mean we can't criticize Marie Rose for appealing to that market though.

Because of what? The game was not cancelled, it was not planned for international release in the first place.

Of course she has every right to say it. Of course, depending on how it plays out. She could be losing a lot more money in the long run. IT is generally a good idea, to know when to comment and when to shut the hell up. Just ask all those dumbasses who lost their jobs posting stupid things on facebook.

lolicons are not pedophiles specifically, again.

Also, its a pretty big jump to assume that 'treatment in regards to women' is specifically about Marie rose considering she was still kept in DOA5.

But please, drone on about how morally outraged you are about her.

I am now irritated because this thread turned into a subtle "Vita owners lol" thread again. Its probably gonna be locked just like that one

Who IS complaining about the game anyways? Is there like some "x" group that made a fuss over it?
It was the SJW Collective. They don't have a HQ. They don't have a leader. And worst of all... they don't have any rules.

or anything to say about this dumb game that no-one cared about

I haven't seen anyone complain about DOAX3 specifically, though that might be because I'm not actively looking for complaints against it. The whole dealio is more because the issue of depiction of women in media, especially video games, is very relevant right now. We're definitely not looking at the same cultural climate as 2006.

Unless something has changed since the last thread, nobody has made a concerted effort to complain about or stop localization of the title

Gamergate and co.

The question was about the game existing in the first place, not about the game not being released in the west (and where people out of "gamergate and co" would have liked it to be released there, but nice generalization).

DOAX3 was under the radar. no one gave a shit until that FB CM said something and then P-A took advantage of it for marketing it on their site.

lolicon is literally a Japanese portmanteau of lolita complex. Just because it is also applied to niche media doesn't mean that it isn't a word to describe men that like little girls.

That's why I said that the context matters, I know it means both things.

I'll just go back to not posting in this thread, see ya all.

The official statement looks the same as the Facebook one.

Yeah, seriously.

Saying they're focused on delivering entertainment "while consciously respecting and strategizing to support the different global audiences the DEAD OR ALIVE franchise lends itself to" sounds like PR talk for the Facebook guy's "Do you know how many issues happening in video game industry with regard to how to treat female in video game industry?"

Seems to me like it's fairly undeniable that this game isn't getting a western release specifically because of the current feminist movement in the western videogame industry.
Western audiences are reacting more to poor portrayals of women in the medium, and the women in the Dead or Alive series have always been pretty objectified. Koei Tecmo just seems to be acutely aware of that, and decided they'd rather not localize it given the current climate.

Blaming SJWs is pretty hyperbolic, but it should be mentioned that the people who specifically called out SJWs have an economic incentive to drum up controversy in that they sell the imported Asian copies that have English subtitling.

Looks like Cabanos deleted that tweet.

Hopefully her agent called and asked her what the fuck she was thinking.

I always make it a point to circumvent censorship or lack of domestic release, so obviously I bought the import. If I wish to enjoy pervy games, it is fully within my rights to do so.

What I do in the privacy of my own home is honestly no one's business but my own, so long as it doesn't adversely impact the heath of anyone else. And don't try to say the mere existence of such things affects the health of some individuals, because that's BS. If they don't like it, they don't have to read it, watch it, play it, or listen to it. It's really that simple.

I'm highly offended by gangster rap and religion, but am I going to hop on a soap box and scream that everyone should be just like me? Nope. People can do whatever floats their boat, so long as they don't shove it in my face.

No one. The game isn't even out yet so nothing has actually happened yet.

But they know there will be some kind of controversy over their depiction of women. DOA has always had "sexy" female characters. But when you take that and make a game about beach volleyball and related shenanigans (so bikinis are a starting point) + add the amounts of DLC costumes they probably plan to sell (with bikinis as a starting point) and have the kind of pre-order incentives they have — they know they are gonna be in for some.

The whole controversy is basically around their fear of that and choosing to only release in certain regions to avoid it.
- One guy spoke up and it made the company look bad,
- GGs jumped on that as an example of what they think is wrong with the world, these are the only actual "complaints" so far.
- EDIT: Play Asia capitalised on the GG style sentiments for their own gain
- Itagaki dropped some killer ether as a bonus,
- KT made an non-announcement to squash the requests for comment they've probably been getting all week.

And somewhere along the line we ended up in the usual "1000 year old demon" debates you see on GAF once a week. A better question would probably be "what exactly is it that's different between the east and west fanbases that makes it ok to release in on region instead of the other" — but I've only recently gained my member status so I don't really want to be making media anthropology threads just yet...

Can I replace a character for a new blonde Garyu character?

Yes pls. Though they are probably not Otaku friendly enough.

KT in all likelihood will release the game digital with subs.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Yep, basically just the exact same statement in less inflammatory language.

Given the current climate, KT know that releasing this niche game as-is would get a bad reception in the West, so they're not going to do it.

Makes more sense now, thanks!

I was curious as to what uninitiated people would guess Marie Rose age to be. Too bad I work in schools and I'd probably get myself arrested trying to make that inquiry from my coworkers.

Where are you guys coming from? Are you just using this thread as venting and therapy of the menace of SJWs?

The agent better have. Hopefully this'll get her to think twice before posting something that could come back because that was pretty unprofessional of her.

There's an argument for the idea that the unchallenged existence of media that objectifies women leads to a normalization of the idea that it's alright to objectify women, and that that thought process bleeds into other aspects of society leading to a subtle and subconscious oppression of women.

It's an argument that isn't without it's faults, and I definitely tend to side more towards the idea that change should come from trying to change the habits of the consumer through raising awareness, as opposed to change coming from putting pressure on the producers to not cater to specific existing markets, but I mean the argument has some value.

I was curious as to what uninitiated people would guess Marie Rose age to be. Too bad I work in schools and I'd probably get myself arrested trying to make that inquiry from my coworkers.

The two people I asked had similar responses. Person number one basically said "for legal reasons, probably 18, but she looks 12 or 13" and the other person thought it was a trick question and guessed 35, but said "she looked like a junior high kid".

The first person doesn't play video games at all and the second person does, but mostly shooters. First person is female and the second person is male.

An imaginary group of boycotters that prevented DOAX3 from getting released in North America.

They might be imaginary, but they have quite a bit of industry influence.
