console debut......hype deflated...........not really, a new studio with kojima at the helm is badass.

But question is.....can they release the game before going broke lol

Why should that "deflate" hype?

If anything, Kojima would still need to "helm" a new studio to be independent, and if anything, he is likely to have external funding from a variety of people with ease. More to the point, being multiplatform would allow him to have a far larger audience and the ability to keep producing games with a grandiose size and scope thanks to the revenue that can bring, something no single platform could do.

All this commotion over... a moneyhat?

Yes Yes and Yes.

I am happy he is in talks with SCE. But considering that Kojima games will cost a lot of money, I felt Nintendo had deep pockets to fund him. Imagine NX launch title is Kojima's exclusive.

Congrats Kojima and I hope it works out for you.

Kojima Hideo, a famous video game creator known for the Metal Gear series has left Konami Digital Entertainment as of December 15th. He will form a new company where he will continue developing video games, with plans to release on platforms such as Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE)'s PlayStation.

 コナミ時代の部下と新会社を設立する。代表作「メタルギア」シリーズの版権はコナミ側に残るため、新作の開発に着手する。最新作についてはSCEと最終交渉しており、PS向けに優先販売するとみられる。

He is forming the new company with people who worked under him at Konami. The rights to the Metal Gear series, for which he is most known, remain at Konami, so he will begin working on an all new title. Final negotiations with SCE are underway for this new game to debut on PlayStation.

Kojima is a world famous video game developer on the same level as Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario. He is highly praised for his elaborate stories and use of movie techniques to create impressive visual imagery. Metal Gear Solid V was released this September and became a massive hit, selling over 5 million copies around the world.

Thank you.

So PS4 or 5 times exclusive.

I don't think Sony has the money to buy Kojima Productions even if Kojima (for whatever reason) wanted to.

MS on the other hand....

Edit:Ok all this was just about a minor timed exclusive lol.

Really annoying to see this article being mistranslated as Kojima joining Sony or forming a studio under Sony's umbrella or whatever.

The article flat out says that he is forming a new company with people he worked with from his Konami days. It also says that the all new game he will be working on will likely be released for Sony's PlayStation and that they are in final negotiations to have the game release *first* (but not exclusive) on Sony's platform.
Post on Twitter and paste it here - then some people will read it :p

Think thats a more realistic and safe conclusion for all, if that happens

Thank you. So it sounds like everyone is jumping the gun on a SCE studio, although it sounds like there might be some kind of exclusivity/partnership being discussed.

It didn't hurt Metal Gear Solid 3, the best game the man ever made.

Oh, hi. You had a typo and wrong opinion in your post. I thereby have fixed it for you. You're welcome.

MGS2 is the downfall of the series and why the plot is a mess.

So he wants to stay independent then?

Why wouldn't he? He put a shit ton of work into a multi-platform sandbox engine that isn't going to be used by Konami itself while working at Konami. I doubt he wants to be tied to one platform. Double so when the PC launch of Phantom Pain sold pretty well.

The game that released on Xbox and PC?
That really doesn't go against what he said though. He worked, and put all his effort into one game, in one system. And it was later ported to Xbox, and PC. He didn't have to worry about making it work on three different systems.

If they're in negotiations over an exclusivity window, I wonder who the actual publisher is.

Unless it's a downloadable game, they're not funding something themselves.

They have the money, but I doubt they would break even on that investment, which why individual game deals makes more sense for them.

How much do you think it would cost lol?

Sony's market cap is about $30 billion

you really think it would be even half of that?

Hopefully Kojima's new studio is an independent contractor like Platinum Games & are just doing hired work for Sony. While I trust Sony to help Kojima out, I want everyone to enjoy the great games that Kojima has brewing in his head.

Yup, I'm covered on all fronts but it'd suck if his next creation was isolated to a select (admittedly large) number of gamers.

Well like I said in my post, Sony's not really about those fully exclusive 3rd party games anymore, and I'm sure Kojima isn't either. I mean, he has been working on multiplatform games for years. The only one with balls enough to pull something like "buying out" Kojima is Microsoft (and going by this article it seems they didn't heh). This Kojima-Sony relationship is not going any further than some Sony execs being friends with Hideo and eating something after work sometimes.

Can't wait to see the words "console debut" on my screen next E3.

I don't think Sony has the money to buy Kojima Productions even if Kojima (for whatever reason) wanted to.

MS on the other hand....
lmao is this still going on?

I really wish Kojima would have gone to Sony whole-hog. He's been such a huge part of the success of PlayStation that I guarantee they'd pay whatever he wanted to fund his games (his studio would likely stay independent), plus I really can't think of any other dev that makes the cerebral, cinematic titles he's known for. EA, Acti, and Ubi can fuck right off. Namco and Capcom? No.

Maybe Bethesda or From Software? Do they even publish?

It's sad, but you're probably right.

A Twitter embed adds a degree of perceived authenticity that you just can't get with a forum post :(

I'm more amazed that he is even in discussions with outside parties for publishing. Wouldn't anything he created while employed by Konami be considered their property? Is he negotiating off of a powerpoint?
