Sony announces partnership w/ KojiPro, New IP, 1st game "console exclusive to PS4"/PC

It's not anti-console salt, it's anti-exclusive salt and I sympathize. I very much agree with his point that locking a game down to one or two platforms shouldn't be a cause for celebration even if you do own said platforms. Today you're happy because your favorite platform "won", tomorrow you'll be sad that you won't be able to play a game that you're interested in without spending hundreds of dollars on yet another gaming device.

More or less.
I own a PS4 and an XOne and a PC.
I'll play it on PS4... But I'd prefer to play on Xbox if it was available there. Especially if it's multiplayer, that's where all my friends game, that's where the majority of my achievements are, that's also on the same input as the TV I still watch.

Glad for Kojima.
Will play his next game regardless of platform.
Feel bad for Phil Spenser.

If Sony is footing the bill for the game(which would be my guess) then it isn't unreasonable for the title to be PS4 console exclusive.

The wording makes it sound like a PC version will also come out.

I do hope so but i am not optimistic. The emphasis on console exclusive instead of "first on PS4" as we heard a lot during E3/PSX is the reason. May be it's just semantics. May be not. But really, lets hope so. Sony ain't gotta lose anything my helping developers release on PC.

So the guy makes an independent studio only to get his first game bought out? You'd think he wouldn't want to be beholden to a large corporation anymore.

This is about as independent as you're going to get for a new studio in the AAA space. His studio is independent, he owns the right to the IP (?) and he's seemingly only locked into an exclusive contract for the first entry of the franchise - with said game being funded by a major publisher. I'd say that's a pretty amazing deal for a brand spanking new video game developer.

Large project exclusives are amazing because it reduces your overheads and allows you to focus development, there's a reason many of the most iconic and well loved games are exclusives and it's because making great games is easier when you don't have to worry about multiple sets of hardware/input devices/etc.

Wow that was fast. Very exciting to see him make brand new IP, in some ways we should thank Konami for helping to make that happen.

There is no way that Kojima would have been able to get a third party publisher that would give hime enough money with creative freedom for a new IP.
This is the best way for Kojima to start anew.

Even if I didn't own a PS4, I would be happy with this announcement. It really seemed like Kojima might leave game development for good, he had a couple statements implying that even before the shit went down with Konami. I'm just glad he can still create and contribute to the industry.

But his first game (not sure where he cut his teeth) was bought out. By Sony. This is his forté

This. Hideo Kojima just proved he is probably the most single powerful developer outside of Shigeru Miyamoto. Bow down in time

It also means his new game gets money. Enough to fulfill his vision. Most kickstarter developers, unfortunately can't do what he's doing

Console exclusive = coming to PC (or mobile).
Exclusive = only on this one platform
Timed Exclusive = only on this platform for x months
Console debut = PC and only 1 console for x months

There aren't any more people that need rescuing are there? As of now everyone of note is free. God I'm so happy.

There may be some good people left at Konami USA, and hopefully they get out.

At E3 this year, I talked to all these people we work with now in testing, loc, etc. that used to work at Konami.

And they all had nothing but awful things to say about how unethical the company is run, that they were all treated terribly, etc. Everyone is so glad to be out of there.

Exclusives have been around forever and there's nothing wrong with that.

It fuels competition and ultimately results in better games.

I would hate to only have 1 console maker with everything being single platform. Quality would decrease and consumers would probably get screwed harder than they do now.

We don't need a Monopoly company in gaming. EA having the NFL rights is already bad enough.

I don't know what I'm more in awe by - the beard or the announcement. I'm glad Kojima and many of his team have landed on their feet, especially after Konami's treatment of everyone. Obligatory PT-esque game, please!

Kojima's loved his Rockstar status since MGS2, and while smaller games have come out under his watch (Boktai, Lunar Knights, ZOE), I have to imagine he wanted a big-ass pay check as soon as possible to get started.

He is also friends with some Sony people and he is a fan if studios who were third party exclusives so im sure he is quite happy. As for the pay cheque i think considering he qants OldKojiPro staff he had to move quickly and Sony would probably have done this since the ps2 days if they could

Need some more details, but it sounds to me that SCE is willing to fund & publish Kojima Productions' game while also allowing it to go to PC & have KojiPro maintain the rights to their IP. If all of that is true, then just wow. If there's one man who can pull that move off, it's Kojima.

Why not? Sony helped SFV and that game is coming to PC. They helped make No Man's Sky, still coming to PC. They're not in competition with each other so Sony doesn't seem to care as long as its console exclusive. Note, they use that term.

So you are basing this on previous deals. As people already mentioned in this thread, wait until official confirmation from Kojima. You are getting people's hope up with your assumption.

I hope its a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid or a game like it.

I wouldnt mind if its a horror game like PT either.

Or a mech game...like Zone of the Enders n_n

I wonder what it would be like if they made a RPG as well.

This is not entirely unexpected, but we're probably 3 years away from whatever KojiPro are working on. At this stage I can't get interested. Let me know when there's a gameplay video and a release date.

Interesting. Do you have a link? In any case it's not hard to believe, I think people who own multiple platforms are a small minority of the total gaming population.

I can't recall if it was in an Interview or podcast.

The only article I could find was this, but it refers to PC hardware vs. PS4.

Sony are pretty cool with their third party console exclusives going to PC, only MS will lose out on this.

Can't wait to hear more about it, amazing news.

There's a whole pile of anti console nonsense there. Loads of it. All that shite about steak.

Let's just celebrate that the man and his staff all are free from Konami and are pursuing work on a new game.

Is it coming to PC? Wording sounds like it may, hyped if true! :)

We don't know. The PSNation rumor that called the timing/general info said it was, and the press release says "console exclusive", but no where do they state it's coming to PC as well.

The interview on IGN tomorrow might shed some light if IGN decides to ask about it, but it's not always a topic they cover since they're not really a "rock the boat" type of publication that asks things other than softball marketing questions.

The fucking salt in this thread, my god. It's not anyone else's fault you chose to be a small minded console warrior and chose allegiances to an electronic device instead of the hobby itself.

Anyway, this is a megaton and I'm excited to see what they come up with. Should be interesting. Hopefully we get an official announcement at e3.

Give Kojima the Ready at Dawn engine and let him create something crazy.

Nice, so the PC releases should be very close to the PS4 launch. I feel for Xbox fans, but Kojima does need funding for his projects.

Awesome logo, reborn from the ashes.
