Went to the renovated Petersen museum in LA yesterday, and boy was I in for a surprise. They had some of the most legendary metal I've ever seen there. I'll just let you take a look at the pictures.

And a bonus pic of my 500 Sport cooling down after a run on Mulholland Drive!

Great to finally hear that the V6 in the new Q line is an in house development. Everyone had been saying it will be a Mercedes sourced 3.0.

I've also been reading that the Q60 could see something past 400HP (420 has been getting thrown around). Regardless, if the Q60 does come in somewhere north of 400, you better believe that will make its way into the next Z.

The official number is 400HP/350TQ with a 30-second overboost function that can increase power by up to 30 percent.

My neighbor with a white Q50 has made me appreciate this latest gen better. He sometimes parks right next to me and the interior looks good on even his base q50a model.

I did some reading on the base model 2L turbo and it looks like it's Merc developed but actually American-built in an Infiniti factory. I'm not sure if that makes it more or less reliable but ~200 HP seems like a very conservative tune when every other manufacturer's base turbo entry outputs way more. I'll keep this model in mind over the next few years though.

How do these overboost functions work, and why are they always temporary. Heat?

Yes, but the 400HP motor has TWO intercoolers to avoid heat issues, the 300HP car has just one. There's also a sensor that communicates with the turbos and allows the turbos to increase turbine speed for the additional power. 30 seconds is actually a pretty damn long time considering most cars with factory overboost last about 10-15 seconds or so.

I wouldn't be surprised if these factory turbos will handle 500HP with a tune and bolt ons for at least 100K miles. GTRs with mild tunes run like factory cars with no reliability issues.

With Infiniti putting out these kinds of numbers, Lexus looks like such a lame duck right now.

Oh, so just an uptick in the allowable boost at the BOV then? My S40 T5 had a bad controller and allowed whatever psi the turbos could do until the engine realized something was afoot. I had the bluetooth OBDII watching boost and it would happily go to 14/15psi when the stock limit was 8. That would only last for about 10-15 seconds before it killed the throttle.

It was a half happy, half sad day when I replaced that boost controller.

But! But! The F cars!

(I've yet to read anything better than a lukewarm review of the IS F or the RC F, and some have been downright negative. I also never see them on the road. Why are these things still in production?)

When the G35 came out was there a difference in HP between the sedan and the coupe? Something like 260 vs 280? If so, I can see where people were coming up with the 420 number for the Q60.

I've never seen 420HP rumored. Two weeks ago the Q60 leaked and all of the figures said 400. Even prior to that figures said 400. If there was anything else, it was probably based on the overboost feature.

Also, the 260HP G35 was never really 260HP. All sedans from 2002-2006 with the standard VQ35DE dyno'd virtually the same numbers. Nissan simply underrated the engine initially, and then 'corrected' the number to 280HP (later down to 275) taking advantage of old SAE regulations that had tons and tons of loopholes on doing things like this.

The latest ISF reviews from 1-2 years ago were quite glowing actually. Lexus really fixed pretty much of what was wrong with the car, especially in the handling department.

All I can hope is that Lexus updates their engines and goes with a higher output forced induction motor in the IS350. I'd be all over this! Current IS350 F-sport just felt slow to me. Felt great inside, really enjoyed the ventilated seats and stuff, but I refuse to spend that kind of money on something that felt less exciting in the acceleration department than a 328i.

Sure, but the RCF erased any bit of praise the ISF slowly built itself. The fact that the RCF is such a fat and heavy pig is its biggest problem.

That self-driving car thread in the main OT forum is giving me a headache.

People who like driving being equated to crazy gun owners was the end of it for me.

That color and those rims are my favorite R34 combination, there's not much I wouldn't do for that exact car...

I probably spent 40 hours in Gran Turismo 3 exclusively driving its virtual twin.

Paint correction, cutting and waxing done, wheels and brake calipers done. Polishing, interior and glass to go today, engine another day next week.

So.... This happened.

JZBixbl.jpg

Parked at work. Always park butt first, black SUV came around the corner and swiped me sometime between after lunch and end of day... and then drove off! Hit and Run baby! Security cameras didn't catch a plate. Security guards actually saw that my car was messed up before I did when they did their rounds, but they noticed at 6pm. :(

So... She's out of commission for a few weeks since holidays/winter accidents are a big back up at the only Porsche certified body shop for 400 miles lol. Was quoted $3,200 to fix the bumper lol.

Driving my motorcycle to work (in the winter), but it's been crazy rainy from el nino so mostly bumming rides from my wife's car. :(

Not the end of the world, dmg was minimal, no one was hurt... but still pretty lame.

Damn, that's shitty bro. Breaks my heart seeing my twin scuffed up like that.

A similar thing happened to me a few years back in my college parking structure. Some girl in a Camry scrapped my rear bumper while parking. Luckily they got it on the security camera. Found my cars paint on her bumper. She tried to deny it, but the footage doesn't lie. Cops came and grabbed her out of class. lol

Awesome pics man. Some beautiful cars there.

Fantastic job. Looks like it just came off the showroom floor. Any pics of the inside?

Will add photos of inside later :) detailer had to go take his dog to the vet so will have to try and finish the polishing tomorrow afternoon, I'll keep working on interior.

Yeah, that's just ridiculous. I have no problem with someone choosing a self driving car of their own volition but don't force it on people and don't look down on someone who enjoys driving their own car.

Ultimately it will come down to liability and safety. In a world where 99% of cars are autonomous, who will insure a driver? Will it even be possible to drive on the roads with autonomous vehicles past a certain point because they'll rely so heavily on coordinated traffic flows?

Now don't look down on people who want to do it, of course, but at a certain point I see people being forced to drive autonomous only vehicles, with maybe some areas reserved for actual driving.

I feel like that is what will happen. I'm all for autonomous cars but you can take our guns just don't take our joy of cars away as well, America was built on the highway system and the freedom of the road!

How long did that all take you? It looks immaculate!
2 people, he worked about 8h45m and me 9h30m from 6am to 5.30pm. (Had to do 2 shop runs and lunch). Starting again 7am so in 1h30m time. Changed my mind yesterday afternoon and ended up doing quite a bit of the engine bay. The other guy I'm working with is a qualified automotive painter and detailer so he's taking care of the paint (I'd rather leavethat to the experts) I'm doing everything else pretty much.

It's ironic isn't?

It's only been about 60 years since the interstate system was established and while it'll still exist even with autonomous cars, it wouldn't be a sign of freedom anymore like how the 1920's imagined it to be.

That said I don't think this is really happening anytime soon. It took years for the government to accept the public usage of drones... I can't even imagine how long it's gonna take for our corrupt bureaucrats to accept the public usage of autonomous cars. As corrupt as they are, they seem to be really hesitant in dealing with something that could potentially lead to the death or at least physical pain of their constituents, yet they don't give a rats ass about cutting funding for a 9/11 survivor group nor our own privacy.

Why do you guys think autonomous cars will kill freedom? You do realize that they won't have a mind of their own and that you can still choose the destination, right? lol

On another note, got to drive a McLaren 570S today. Here's some pics:

They had this 12C in the showroom too. Immaculate white on black with carbon accents with only 980 miles on it! Certified warranty and all the updates, which means 625HP. Yours for only $160K. Still think this is the greatest bargain in the supercar world.

I have to admit that the 570S might be the rare car that doesn't look good in red. I like my McLarens in sapphire blue though, so that might be my bias

Duuuude. You are living the dream. You know that right? =)

McLaren needs new designers, their cars are so bland compared to other hyper/super cars.

Oh I don't know about that. I prefer clean, simple shapes and lines and McLaren does that pretty well. I would call their design philosophy "elegantly aggressive" and while it's obviously not everyone's cup of tea, I find it to be pleasing.

It's not NA or not. It's the fact that the RCF is a big fat heavy 3850lb PIG and the engine doesn't make use of its powerband that well, as it has an odd tendency to slow down up top. I love NA V8s, both of my cars have giant lumps in the engine bay: a 5.0 Jag V8 and a 5.6L Infiniti VK56VD that makes close to 500HP crank with mods. The other parts where Lexus looks like a lameduck is its boring V6s. The same 3.5L mill that's been around for 10 years now with the same 300HP.

Also, compared to their competitors, the Lexus' 2.0T is utter trash. Slow, unresponsive trash that is considerably slower per metric across the board, compared to the BMW's N20 equipped cars that are super zippy.

On another note, got to drive a McLaren 570S today. Here's some pics:

This red car's whoring around. It was in McLaren of Long Island just last week. Had a friend test drive it too.

I think the 570S is a great looking car, just not in red.

Disagree. Looks amazing in red.

Asshole with RX-7. Asshole with Skyline. And here I am with my stupid Miata that wont start half the time. Fuck life.

Keep your head up :) it wasn't an easy road for me to get where I am now, I went for 9 long years with crappy cars and working my arse off 2-3 jobs for 7 years and being really frugal to get to a financial position that I had paid a fair bit of the house off and had some money to spare for a nice car and had to get a divorce too as ex-wife was blowing all my money. Trust me, wasn't easy being a massive car enthusiast biding my time for so long. I still bought the lowest spec r34 gtr to save money as well as a vspec was 10k more and a nur was 40k+ more at the time (now 50-90k more). Fortunately now I'm back to one job that pays pretty well.

Check the starter?

The starter harness on my NC went kaput early this year, cost me $900 fncking dollars to get fixed... it's been smooth sailing ever since though, minus the time spark plug ceramic bits went inside my cylinder lol.

Speaking of Miatas, in preparation for the season:

Sucks that I can't use it while driving though. The red nose is barely hanging on to the hood latch so I'm sure it's gonna fall off and the front end of my car is gonna drag it coz it's low haha.

Funny thing is, I've been waiting to do this for 3 years lol.

Its not the starter. It cranks fine. It's either spark or fuel. I've changed the Camshaft PS, the crankshaft angle sensor, both coil packs, and the wires and plugs. Still does it. I've checked the fuel pressure- 58psi.

Something is causing it to not want to start all the time.

But when it starts it starts up just fine? Runs all right when it does?

Very weird, what jumps to mind first is some sort of failing immobilizer unit. I remember hearing that some domestics were pretty bad for that as they aged, with similar symptoms.
