Poe seemed completely irrelevant other than getting Finn off the Star Destroyer. But they could have found another way to get him free.

The X-wing dogfights could have been done with a generic pilot. Or a "Wedge" type that doesn't need further development.

Hell, Rey was piloting the Millenium Falcon like a freaking Ace through the ruins. She's never flown it before then.

Too many liberties taken in that movie.

Poe was awesome, though it felt like he had part of his story cut from the film.

So, is Finn also a force user? He uses the lightsaber on two separate occasions, once against a fucking dark jedi and he manages to not die instantly.

Do you guys think Han is really dead?

Finn isn't a force user. He held his own against Ren because Ren was emotionally unstable and injured.

This image really took away the surprise for me.

everyone know Driver was Kylo Ren. And no one expected him to be deformed.

Her mother? Could be her father as Kenobi's son. I still remember rumors of the casting early on was looking for a character to play Kenobi's grandaughter a couple years back, so it really wouldn't be out of place if it ends up being true.

What I'm looking for is who is Ben's partner?

Loved every bit of it. Well maybe not the whole does fuck all Phasma.

Ill go with Rey being more Sith. She got dat aggression and hate in the fight with Ren.

Sucks about Van Sydow. Thought he'd have a bigger role.

She hasnt been trained at all and had no clue she had Jedi power, I think she will stay good

I forgot the reason they gave in the movie. Why was there a map to Luke Skywalker? Did he leave it behind?

He apparently went looking for the first Jedi Temple (or an early one) in search for clues in how to properly train Jedi. Seeing has his first batch feel too easily to the dark side.

He apparently sent R2 back with instructions on how to find him, but left it in the hands of very select people. Having part of the map held by Max Von Sydow's character.

My bet is on family relation between Snoke and Rey. It seems Snoke is very keen on getting Rey to turn to the dark side

Ok, if Rey is really meant to be seeing something someone else saw (if not herself), Ren saves her or that person's life. The guy with the mushroom hat is about to hit her with a stick, but then gets killed by Ren.
Yeah this is pretty interesting.

It's hard to tell from that gif if it REALLY is Snoke though. What if Rey is the daughter of someone that went off to train at Luke's academy and got slaughtered there, and that's what she's seeing in that vision?

I think the movie could have done without the tentacle monsters.

Scene would have been fine with just closing the blast doors and having the heroes get chased through a maze of corridors, have rey and finn opening and shutting different doors to help out han and chewie.

The monsters just didn't work for me.

I hope they don't make everyone related.

The galaxy is a big place. Kylo being Han's son is more than enough for me. In fact, I think the idea of Rey being just a regular person who happens to be strong in the force makes for a far more striking contrast to Kylo (and a far more compelling character) than yet another prophecy/lineage story.

Obviously we have no real clue on that, but it's not like Kenobi wasn't getting it on. Jedi aren't anti-sex, they're anti-attachment (which is still dumb but whatever). We already know about his relationship with the Duchess in Clone Wars TV series, so somewhere down the line it's likely he hooked up with someone.

I went on a complete Force Awakens blackout since the movie was announced, didnt watch any of the trailers or read anything about the movie. The only things I knew about it (by accidently reading it on a forum) was that it was directed by JJ and had Harrison Ford in it

When I watched it the other night, I had to take a pee break right when Ren unmasked himself for the first time....I got back to find this dude interrogating Rey, I had nfi who it was lol

I don't know why they couldn't find Luke with the piece of the map BB-8 had. When they put the whole thing together, their piece had the part with essentially "X marks the spot".

Someone on reddit posted this passage from the novelization:

He met her eyes steadily. "We've lost our son, forever." Leia bit her lower lip, refusing to concede. "No. It was Snoke." Han drew back slightly. "Smoke?"

She nodded. "He knew our child would be strong with the Force. That he was born with equal potential for good or evil."

"You knew this from the beginning? Why didn't you tell me?"'

She sighed. "Many reasons. I was hoping that I was wrong, that it wasn't true. I hoped I could sway him, turn him away from the dark side, without having to involve you."

[SNIP]

"I thought I could shield him from Snoke's influence and you from what was happening."

[SNIP]

He had trouble believing what he was hearing. "So Snoke was watching our son."

"Always," she told him. "From the shadows, in the beginning, even before I realized what was happening, he was manipulating everything, pulling our son toward the dark side."

As a 34 year old who generally doesn't really care about Star Wars...I have to say I liked it.

1. I appreciate them challenging the race issue.
2. A strong female lead is greatly appreciated.
3. The story held up pretty well. They didn't really cheat; each plot point was setup properly and there was very little deus-ex machina.
4. They let Han die, that needed to happen I think.
5. The Millenium Falcon and Tie Fighter action sequence was really enjoyable.

Was it perfect? No, not even close. Will I watch it again? Probably not...but they really did a great job trying to give people what the want, while keeping it interesting.

I would have sat in the theater for another 15 minutes if it meant adding some of these lines of dialogue into the movie.

Snoke telling Ren that the reason his grandfather failed is because he got sentimental adds to the bridge scene and it clears up the thought that ren is unaware that Anakin went back to the light.

I got confuse by that. So wasn't the rest of the map with R2D2? Isn't that why he shut down till it was time to complete the map? So how did the First Order have it then (I guess got a copy somehow)?

Saw this movie today. JJ really killed it. Also:
  • I fully expect Rey to be Luke's daughter, what with the memories from the lightsaber, her adeptness with the force with no trainng, and the fact that she was conveniently left on a desert planet much like Tatooine by her mysteriously unseen parents. Plus, it sets up an " I am your father" reference.
  • Han dying was hard to watch. Saw it coming a mile away, but it really hurt.
  • I wouldn't be surprised if Finn was at least mildly force-sensitive. Not everyone can be as quick to the force as a Skywalker
  • Poe Dameron was ace. Also, the small & sage alien woman that was holding on to Anakin's lightsaber. Look forward to seeing them both again.
  • I'd prefer if Snoke wasn't Plagueis, but it would make sense
  • Got KOTOR vibes all over the place: Kylo's mask, searching for star maps, a superweapon siphoning solar energy directly, R2 being shut down after Luke goes on a personal mission, etc
This movie successfully passed the torch. Overall SW ranking currently:
5 > 4 = 7 > 6 > 3 > 1 > 1

Dead at Luke showing up for 60 seconds to not say a word.

I like Rey, but I don't like how quickly she got good at the force.

I'm disappointed that Finn doesn't appear to be force sensitive..

And people, there's no hope for Kylo.. That dude is about that dark side life.. Even Vader wouldn't be able to murder his flesh and blood.

One little stuff I liked is how Kylo punches his wounded belly during the fight with Finn/Rey. An "I'm strong! I'm strong!" moment.

He's so good.

I like that. I like that a lot.
Brings interest to Snoke as well. Who is this guy? How does he know all this? Stuff like that.

Folks let's be real about Finn. He was awkward and a lot of humor felt forced. His "Rayyyyyyy" scream was cringe. Of all the new characters he was the least compelling or interesting.

I am full of shit.
Rich, smooth, creamy shit.

Tag, ever so applicable here.

Jokes aside, you're welcome to your opinion. I've been pretty critical of the movie and I thought Boyega was the one of the best parts of the movie myself.

they wouldn't even have to add time, they could have cut that scene with han solo on the freighter with the rebel factions. that was a waste of time tbh.

movie needed more breathing room to let the characters kick back and interact. it felt like they would all have a great introduction scene and then it's onto an action scene right away. i'm fine with that in certain movies, but not this one since there's clearly a larger plot at play that they're trying to set up.

Like I said, one of my only major critiques of this movie is I feel like it would have benefitted from about 20 minutes more. Give me an extended edition and it could damn near be the perfect Star Wars movie.

Oh wow. That would've been great.

The lines may have been cut to facilitate having them as part of a bigger scene in the next movie. The edit could have happened after the book was finalized.

Anakin did almost murder padme, who was pregnant with his kids

Should have been in the movie tbh.

Also how does Snoke know how things went down in the throne room? Unless they're going to hand wave it all away with he somehow knew through the Force.

"That's not how The Force works!"

My biggest fear going into this movie based on GAF comments was how they portrayed Finn. No worries at all-I loved the guy in this movie. My favorite moment is his quick thumbs up with BB-8. I'm in love with this movie and I can't wait to see it again.

And what a crowd pleasing moment - the reveal of the Falcon a few seconds after Rey dismissed it offscreen.

Yeah this really would have added to the film.

Me too. One of my gripes about the movie is that they shouldn't have made it a little longer... and that's something I very rarely say about films. The movie was well paced and engaging all the way through. I don't think anybody was antsy to leave while watching it. They could've easily added another 15-20 minutes to strengthen some of the weaker areas of the story. Something like that excerpt from the book, showing more about the planets that were destroyed, etc.

Although I guess the second movie is going to focus on Kylo Ren's training with him so maybe they're just pushing that sort of dialogue back to that point. But I guess my gripe is that they didn't have to push stuff like that back. Maybe they think it'll have a bigger impact if he's not talking to a hologram but talking to the person directly.
