Scalebound delayed to 2017

I don't see the issue with people pointing out that a lot more games will be delayed, some likely into 2017, on both sides.

I mean, yeah, it will happen. It always happens. When was the last time a dev announced a date for a big AAA ambitious title and actually hit it? And I don't mean hit it after a delay or two, but I mean hit their first date.

Sony does this, Microsoft does this, Nintendo does this, third party studios do this. Really, the only stuff you can expect to hit on time and not be delayed are games that are on a yearly release schedule.

Bummer. This is one of the games I'm most looking forward to. Although the game will probably benefit from a couple extra months of polish and avoiding the holiday rush.

Fingers crossed for the delay to herald a PC release, especially after the news about ReCore. By 2017 it will look like the sensible thing to do.

What's the source of that cat? Its human looking eyes are creepy.

The demo they showed at Gamescom looked like a disaster in the making. Nothing about the game looked good and Scalebound was bound to flop had they released it this year. Maybe the extra year will give them enough time to realize that and they end up scrapping the whole thing and starting over.

I'm okay with this. Make you a deal though. Take some of that time to scrap Danty completely and actually make a cool-looking character.

Yeah this was always going to happen. It seems like a very very very big and ambitious game.

Make sure they get it right, delay away.

yeah, ok.

...if they didn't announce it until the game was practically ready to launch then all the time in between there'd probably be numerous leaks that they couldn't be able to hide

That's at least a little more exciting than three years of being assured something probably exists.

Yeah, they definitely going to throw away 2 years of development just because some people didn't like an early demo.

I'm not calling it lying, as that would imply deceit. I'm just saying I would be very surprised if the game ends up making 2016.

Depends on how big the development staff at Japan Studio is dedicated towards that game. 60-70 should get the game out the door easily given all this time + the small indie team.

Looked like it ran really bad at Gamescom. Definitely needed a polish.

I expect more delays on X1. Recore looks set to be the next culprit. Maybe Sea of Thieves. Hope not though, SoT could be something special.

Honestly, the only major Xbox One games that I'm sure will make 2016 at this point are Quantum Break and Cuphead. I never expected Recore to, seeing as how we haven't really even seen it yet.

If you are going to use examples of Sony announcing a game too soon at least mention Rime and Uncharted 4 (though they could not anticipate the shakeup at ND) . Shenmue is a kickstarter game and FF7 is a SE game.

Gears is definitely not missing the holidays

Spencer has allowed delays for Quantum Break, Fable, Scalebound, and Recore thus far, so I think he would give that team the time if they asked for it. He's probably not willing to take any more risks like MCC after seeing what that's done to the Halo brand.

It definitely needed work from the last time we saw it.

Well yes, it needed the second half of its development...

I think MS will have made sure The Coalition got all the resources they needed to hit the date, they've grown a lot and have Rod leading the charge who is a known "finisher" or "closer" or whatever he was called at Irrational. The beta is out in Spring and I doubt Gears 4 - a new title for Xbox One, will have the same issues as 343 + friends trying to sellotape 4 Halo games spanning 13 years, 4 platforms and multiple engine iterations together

Exactly, that's my line of thinking too.

The year of dreams has finally turned over to the year of delays. Honestly kind of surprised to see it being pushed back so early but I'm kind of glad they did it now so I people won't see it for the first time at E3 and be disappointed. But I'll still be pretty excited if we still get Crackdown 3 and Gears 4. Those are all I really need, Recore, Sea of Thieves, and Scalebound I could all see being pushed to 2017 and that'd be cool with me. Although I'd absolutely love Sea of Thieves, I love me some pirate games.

For new IP and delivering an ambitious project from Lionhead? Yep. For existing IP I'm not sure he would be generous.

Like what?

Performance really wasn't up to par (FPS was all over the place). Also, maybe this wasn't an indicator of the game needing work from a technical stand point, but the reveal didn't really show any new gameplay additions. I felt like it was just rushed out to show something. Compare that to UC4's first reveal which at least showed off the meat and bones of the gameplay and ran decently.

They never confirmed it for 2016 anyway.

Yes it was.

With Xbox's focus on the holiday season they will do anything possible to get Gears 4 out this year. If it gets delayed too they would have nothing.

They will want to The Coalition the best chance at succeeding and making a great game, but I just think that Microsoft will have had experience with 343 doing a similar thing to TC, they'll give them the resources necessary in money, manpower, development partners to ensure the game gets done and works (hence beta)

January 2014 to holiday 2016 is nearly 3 years, thats decent, i'd be concerned if they had tried to get it out by holiday 15

Microsoft should just stop showing gameplay of their upcoming titles... game in development with 18 months left, it was a nice teaser for their work to be continued at a future time

I thought what they showed was pretty legit
