It's going to reach way more than that - that's only 14M to go ... and they sold almost 5 M in one month ...

They're selling pretty much 18 million units a year at this rate. Console hasn't become significantly cheaper yet, no Uncharted, GT etc still. I guess its at 50 million this fall, perhaps before holidays.

Allow me to say hot damn one more time lol

It's certainly going to make it past 100M LTD by the end of its life cycle, unless something really terrible happens or the next console is closer than we'd expect. Don't know if it'll reach the almighty PS2 though.

It's pretty true though. This generation of consoles is my least favorite so far.

Pretty much why I'm sticking to a PC and maybe Nintendo's next console. Admittedly, I would like a PS4 just for Bloodborne. I bought a PS3 towards the end just for Demon's Souls.

Yeah, but how many active PSN users do they have uh? Let's talk about the real numbers that matter!

Impressive, did not really expect such result with a lot of high profile games pushed to 2016. I guess the 3rd party heavy-hitters (CoD, Battlefront, annual sportgames) were enough to garner interest.

All deserved in my eyes, Sony did a great job to capture audience and to have a well-balanced (queue stability updates jokes) platform.

Sony loves to toss their numbers out every chance they get. We all get it. They sold a TON of consoles...now how about they fix their network and put out some damn games.

I love being able to look at post histories when I see things like this.

30.2 million is for the third week of November, so, not Black Friday week.

5.7 million is Black Friday + December.

IS likely that PS4 has sold AT LEAST one million WW during Black Friday ( and most likely 1.5m or so), that's mean PS4 sales in December are almost for sure under 5 million.

1/3 of 5 million is < 1.7 million, in short, 2 million in the NPD won't happen.

I think the US takes a bigger share in the overall number of consoles sold during the holidays. December was a 5 week month too.

So 2 million!

Well, I got one on Black Friday, and I'm very pleased with how snappy the UI is, clean and simple. Not pleased with the PSN disruptions though.

If Sony doesn't discontinue the PS4 after 6 years, why not. I stopped following Ps2 beyond 2006 but I think it was a bit past 100 million then. They kept on selling somehow.

Wow that is impressive, I wonder how much more it will sales this year. I do wonder if it's going to sell more this year than last year. Can that happen? Could it increase sales each year till it hits the roof and sells worse?

Slightly above 100M, like the Wii.

Around 100 million.

thank you guys, I missed the data. Don't know why but I tought about a bigger LTD than the Wii (wow at the Wii being so high in history, for being a Nintendo home console!)

if so, I confirm that to me it will beat the Wii/PS1 LTD for sure. I think it will not be able to repeat PS2 numbers but over 100 millions seems very doable considering its pacing.

Yea, PS2 numbers are going to be tough and will require serious legs even going into the next generation of consoles (which is what the PS2 did, outselling 360 and PS3 early on).

Its cool and all, but i dont understand why its still selling so well.

I mean since its launch, nothing really improved in OS or Services aka PSN. Some of the first Party games for my taste are really uninteresting and really dont provide much if you are multiplayer gamer.

I mean XboxOne IMO does it way better at the moment. Monthly OS Updates, we got a completly redesigned and faster UI, BC and the Games with Gold selection is way better too over the month and with BC even better.

Sure its great that its selling well, but i really cant understand it. Sure the Hardware is better. But cmon nobody can deny that Sony is really lazy so far.

Wow at this ^^^ .... OS on the PS4 is super fast. MS needed to upgrade the XB1 OS. PSN for me has zero log in issues, and is fast. Live isnt much better. You mentioned BC twice. And Plus is across 3 systems. That is 6 games a month. The Live Games that are released now, many have already been on PS3.

Sony being lazy bringing a raft of original Indie games on the system, yet MS isn't for buying IPs and exclusivity. Come on man!

Completely stoked to see Sony back up on its feet and reigning supreme...

But this also means a lot of users to launch the username change to, do it fast Sony before it hits 40mil.

Wow, wow, wow! What an impressive number. Quite a turnaround for Sony this gen. Looks like focusing on the pure gaming experience at a fair price has helped them tremendously. I don't see 2016 slowing down any either, especially with the strong release schedule PS4 has.

Also, two threads active, should probably merge those!

As to the bolded, wow, who would have fucking thought... (Not aimed at you, aimed at people who denied this would work.)

Basically they delivered what every gamer had been asking for forever. 'Strongest possible box at an affordable price - no gimmicks.'

There was this astonishing consensus for a long time that better visuals alone could not possibly move new hardware. But it was obviously horseshit, and I'm glad it has proven to be horseshit. The games are much the same, but they look better now. That's all it took.

Sony still rockin' that sho' with the PlayStation Fo'. 5.7 million sold through the holidays...good lord that's a great number.

So it's PS4 sales bingo time?

Hmm, I think these fill the slots...

Truly great sales.

PS4 is officially the most successful console ever with no games.

That's a lot of people who couldn't use PSN yesterday

Good for them but I am afraid they will become complacent and arrogant.

From Zhuge EX

PS4 holiday sales in 2015 = 5.7 million units
PS3 holiday sales in 2009 = 3.8 million units
PS2 holiday sales in 2001 = 5.3 million units

Do I get a bingo?
Aware that most of these posts are being intentionally ironic...I think

As always, pretty great numbers.

At this point, we already know the numerical winner of the console sales war this gen and it's pretty routine to see it dominate. What I'm curious about sales-wise is if VR will have a rejuvenative effect on sales later in its life cycle, sort of like Kinect did for 360, or of it'll be a add-on of little impact.

Considering my Oculus Rift experience was the most transformative gaming experience I've ever had in my life, I am actually pulling for someone to bring it to market successfully. I honestly don't care who as long as the VR unit itself is good when it does it. Haven't tried Morpheus yet though.

I made this prediction 2 years ago, I am pretty spot on thus far.

PS4
FY13 7.5
FY14 14.8
FY15 16
FY16 18
FY17 19
FY18 18
FY19 17
FY20 9
FY21 4
123.3

Awesome impressive numbers. Every sale is completely deserved, it's an awesome console with a great selection and variety of games.
Been enjoying it since launch, it's the only device I need under my TV.

Considering their lineup for 2016...

... Holy cow, this year is going to be insane. I'm amazed they sold this well without any major first-party exclusive for the holidays. THIS year is chock full of them.

Can't wait to see how much that'll contribute.

It'll never reach the PS2 but it's probably going to beat the PS1 in sales.

Yeah Ps2 will probably be a stretch. I've been looking at Ps3 numbers and the nosedive is big. It fell flat the day the Ps4 came out. Ps2 however kept outselling 360 and Ps3 for quite some time.

Do we know if PS4 outsold Wii and PS2 on the same timeframe (would mean it's the fastest selling console 25 months after release)?

PS4 Slim, 250$/€, holiday 2016. Do it, Sony!
Considering their current sales trend and the games to be released in PS4 during 2016 I'd say they may be supply constrained during holiday 2016. They won't need a price drop, I assume they'll wait for 2017. Their gaming division is in a very good shape, but as a whole corporation Sony needs these extra profits.

do you have an estimate about PS4 LTDs?

I believe PS4 will sell around 100 million LT.

My predictions:

2013 - 4,200,000
2014 - 14,300,000
2015 - 17,400,000
2016 - 18,000,000
2017 - 16,500,000
2018 - 14,500,000
2019 - 9,000,000 <---- PS5 year
2020 - 4,000,000
2021/2022 - 2,000,000

We will see.

OS on the PS4 just shows Sony is focused on getting people to play games as fast as possible. Only thing I would want is folders, really. I don't have to spend a lot of time navigating it to get to what I want to do.

Beastly numbers. Can't wait for SF5. :D
