Japan Travel |OT| One does simply not visit just once

Unfortunately I'm not.

I still wonder how I could get tickets, considering our agency told us that they were sold out..

JTB sells international tickets that are different to the Japanese tickets you can get. There are some websites that can help you get Japanese tickets:
You could also get Japanese tickets from these two services:
http://www.bridge.jpn.com/services/tickets

http://www.jbox.com/product/GHIBLITICKET

Never heard of the first company, but the second one is legit at least...

Maybe somebody who's living in Japan could help you get tickets as well. People have gotten help from people in Japan who posts in this thread before.

Visiting Japan for the second time in mid-March for about a month. Can't wait!

What are some retro game stores in Den Den Town? I didn't go there last time.

Well, there's like half a dozen Super Potato stores:
http://www.superpotato.com/free_html.php?html=about_shop.html

Avoid the G1 one though, that one only sells trading cards.

There's also Game Tanteidan and a shop called A-Too.

And there's Mandarake Grandchaos, but that's on the other side of the Dotonbori canal.

My friend a month before his Japan trip: "I hope I don't fall in love with the place like you did."

3 days left on that trip: "I don't want to go home".

Hehe.

Trip is booked. Plane lands April 15 and I leave on April 25. So much nervous excitement!

Checked out my banks foreign atm transaction fees ($5 a time and 3%)...looks like something I should only use in a pinch. I'd be better served by converting cash at Narita using their exchange rate. My credit card has no fees, but they're not a big credit card society...

Is there any reason to get a mobile wifi thing instead of a visitor's sim card? My phone is compatible and unlocked.

Most places we went to took credit cards. The only ones that didn't were the subways/buses, temples (including stands around them), and Coco Ichibanya of all places.

Noticed the Square logo everywhere, actually. Guess they found a market there.

Does anyone know if there are dedicated gachapon shops besides Gachapon Kaikan in Akihabara? There's a pretty good basement dedicated to it in Shinjuku but beyond that I can only think of odd machines near arcades and in shops.

There's a small shop in Nakano Broadway, but it's small :p

I saw more gachapon machines in Leisureland in Odaiba than any other place I've visited though.

So two friends and I are going in April and will be staying for 10 days. The guide in the op has been very helpful in setting up our trip. I just had a question about the JRL pass, besides Tokyo my buddies want to visit Hiroshima and maybe go up north of Tokyo. Would the JRL pass cover it or is it sold by regions?

I have some other questions that I don't think has been asked in this thread yet. So an older coworker who has been to Japan told me of his trips to Japan and how he's been to strip Club where at some point the guys play rock paper scissors and whoever wins gets it on while everyone else cheers. Thing is he doesn't remember the name of the place. Anyone know of a place like this in Tokyo??? Besides bars where also gonna be going to the red light district for you know what but are there any recommendations for a place to go?? Sorry if these questions are a bit weird.

You want advice on where you can go to play rock paper scissors and have it turn into group sex with a stripper?

More or less yes. But I just need help with the wh JRL pass, I'm not sure how it's sold and what areas it would include. Sorry about the other questions if it offends anybody.

There are area-specific passes, but the full JR Pass covers the entire country.

I'll send you a pm.

Has anyone bought jewelry at Tasaki before and can give a price range for rings? Googling failed me :(

Have any of you shopped at the premium outlets (there are like 5 in japan) and would recommend it?

EDIT: nvm their collections start at a couple thousand!

Almost non-stop (one stop on return) flights in August for about $1000. That's pretty good and might mean super cheap flights in the fall. Need to keep my eyes peeled for a deal.

Is there any good centralized source of information where I can check for cool music events in a particular city?

This. I'm hoping like hell that Sarah Alainn (and/or Millennial Fair) happens to have a concert in Tokyo in April, but in case that doesn't happen I'll just pick something randomly, just to have been to a concert in Japan.

Flight booked, 3 Airbnb booked, 1 capsule hotel because why the fuck not, passport arrived.

Going to spend time in Tokyo, Osaka, and back in Tokyo. Day trips during the middle.

Now I wait. Also managed to set this all up for the first two weeks of April. Should be very nice.

So just want to double check:

I exchange the JRPass and put it to start on the 3rd of April (the day we head to Osaka)
The JRP works from 12am at the start of the 3rd of April for 7 days.
We return to Tokyo on the 9th. The JRPass should work up until 11:59pm on the 9th.

Is that right?

Just double checking ^^

On a positive note: Expedia says this on all 3 hotels now. "We have confirmed your hotel reservation with the property."

So yay :D 2 months and 1 day til we leave, 2 months and 2 days til we arrive in Japan.

*counting the days*

Yes.

I think you are even allowed to board a train before midnight on the 9th and leave the train on the 10th.

holyyyy shyt man this post vacation blues is some real shit!!

mostly due to the fact that I was in the office yesterday working 11 frikken hours to catch up!!

the first 3 of those spent going thru email

>_<

cant wait to do it again tho lol

Question:

Is it worth the three hour wait to visit Sushi-Dai at the Fish Market for breakfast?
I actually went to Sushi Yamazaki, the line was shorter and the online reviews say it's just as good as the popular spots.

http://www.sushi-yamazaki.com/
http://www.yelp.com/biz/やまざき-中央区-2
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaura...mazaki-Chuo_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html

It was real good but I'm not any of a sushi connoisseur to really tell you what you're missing out on by choosing this over other places.

the place was real fresh but TBH I'm happy enough with cheaper sushi so take my opinion for what it is, but read the reviews too.

Would it be better to get 2 of the Kansai 3 day passes or a JR pass for a week?

From what I understand Kansai Pass = Cheaper value, but JR = More convenient(Frequent)?

So Japan-GAF, I will be spending six weeks in this fine country from late February to mid April - most of the time on my own, except for the last 10-11 days. I've got most accommodation sorted though I am planning to leave a week or so open for when I'm actually there.

My plan looks like this:

(Week 0: Taiwan)
Weeks 1-2: Okinawa main island and Zamami
Week 3: Fukuoka and Kagoshima
Week 4: Hiroshima, Takayama, maybe Magome
Week 5: Osaka and Kyoto
Week 6: Tokyo

Any suggestions for must see attractions, day trips and good places to eat are more than welcome!

Depends on where you're going and for how many days.

A week in the Kobe-Osaka-Kyoto area.

1-2 day in Kobe
1-2 days in Kyoto
3 days in Osaka

Depends on which I like better of Kobe and Kyoto. I figure you can only see so many temples before they are all the same, but I'll be arriving in April with the flowers blooming and baseball in full swing so I guess I'll see.
