Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC Steam on January 28

Has anyone here tried to claim RotTR Steam code using an old GTX 970/980/980 TI? I've successfully claim one using my Asus GTX 970 I bought 6 months ago. I'm in South East Asia btw, I don't know if other regions have the same promo.

How did you manage that? Don't you get a code specific to this promo only when you buy one now?

No, apparently people managed to get more than one games from the nvidia promo, even with a purchase from 2015. They only need to contact their dealer with some receipt and they got the keys. And it's not limited to Asus cards as well.

It's bit different in parts of Asia, you contact GPU manufacturer to get your code. Basically you email receipt & photos of GPU card.

Except Asus. I didn't need to do anything besides sending my serial number to their system. They sent me the code instantly right after I clicked submit.

Went ahead and pre-ordered on Steam. was going to buy a discounted code on b/s/t but the free copy of TR 2013 immediately made me do it.

Crazy the leap between ps3 to PS4 to PC at 1440 maxed on a gsync monitor.

I'm giddy to play this on Thurs.

I still don't know why so many people dislike Denuvo to the degree that they do. I wouldn't even know it was in MGSV if I'd not been told.

From what I've seen it doesn't affect performance, doesn't require an additional launcher, isn't even noticeable for normal use, and doesn't require internet...

I read that in the EULA, it's stated that it "May" limit installations, but have not seen any instance where it does.

If paying customers don't get negatively affected by it, and it effectively prevents piracy, then I don't see the issue.

People saying we won't be able to use the games in the future, but is there any proof of that? Surely a system that works offline should also work in the future, offline...
We'll see how it holds up the future. I own copies of PC games that I currently cannot play due to Starforce (Trackmania Sunrise for instance). It simply does not work on modern operating systems. Could that happen here? Who can say but there is some concern there. I'm most concerned about preservation, however.

proof?
do you know Securom DRM won't work in Windows 7++

Are you trying to say that Securom doesn't work with any version of Windows after 7?

Because I've installed and played Crysis just fine on Windows 8 and 8.1 and it has Securom.
Ditto for Dead Space 1.

They raised the number of activations to 50, but the DRM remains.

you still need to activate? what if they discontinued the service?

Holy shit. I just tried this with the 970 that I bought last summer and it worked.

Wow.. Good for you. Yeah, I didn't expect that too. So glad that I got this game for free.

Haven't tested yet, but even if we bought an ASUS card from any region and then try to claim the game by picking any APAC region, it might still work.. Who knows.. lol

How nice of them.

But people don't like that kind of DRM because they are Valve fanboys. Right. Fuck any publisher that restricts number of installs.

I don't know, how have some of the defenders been playing on PC's? How often has new "safe" DRM completely fucked over consumers? Sceptisism is absolutely warranted here.

i guess its just wasnt analysed and tested by people enough and there was a lot of random bullshit claims on the internet on which the marketing fastly reacted. And the fact its mostly invisible unless it bugs out just helps people being defesive about it .
I even heard about it having offline mode timers from a friends i trust , but dont have any real proof as i am sceptic enough to not even install it on new PC, after the info in Primal's eula....
I guess people got lazy and too trusting over the years , even after all these publisher lies and other shit....

The tressFX or whatever they're using is amazing now. That guy's long beard looks almost real.

To my knowledge "Purehair" is solely used on Lara's hair.
You are totally right that characters look very good.

I don't know if you guys have noticed but texture quality is noticeably improved on PC.

This is shaping up to be a very good jump over the xbone version. :)

Can't wait to see the PS4 version.

It was a shit joke about the streamer's beard.
I wonder if he's playing maxed out. I know it's nVidia who obviously have access to top end hardware, but who knows. I do notice jaggies so I guess AA is not maxed.

I am not sure my PC will be able to handle all this. :/
That snow is so well done.

Thankfully there are settings you can adjust based on your hardware.
You have a 280x, right ?

So why are you even questioning your ability to run this game ? In any case it will look better than on consoles.

Yes 280x. I would be happy with high/30fps.
And idk. it looks very demanding to me. We will see.

At maximum settings sure it will be. You would not believe Nvidia would invest in this game if it could not move the needle.

However, based on hardware specs your 280x should really have no problem running this as well as consoles, and that's being extremely pessimistic.

I'm sorry but your worries make no sense to me, sure your 280x might not cut it for the best of what the PC version has to offer but that is the lot of many of us anyway : this is precisely why maximum settings exist in the first place, to spurr hardware demand.

As UnrealEck rightly says this game runs on a 1.31tflops GCN machine. I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

You'd avoid a game you want to play for 9 months because of button prompts?

I dont see this running to my satisfaction on my 780ti so I'll buy it at the christmas sale after I bought a new GPU

It's not about avoiding I'm a sucker for Tomb Raider so it's about double dipping and if they want me to do that they have to offer a complete experience.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've read in a while on gaming side. "sucker" for tomb raider, but getting bent out of shape over something that is extremely common on pc due to standard apis in use. Hate to break it to you, but you won't be getting the 'complete' experience on PS4, so are button prompts really more important to you than things like framerate?

Is Denuvo generally known to affect performance. I preordered due to finding a great price but now I'm concerned. I think batman scarred me
