Somebody call VH1: "The Fine Bros" are trying to trademark "reaction videos"

The criticism of this thing is fine but the whole having a site open of their subscriber count taking a dive is super lame.

Well I kinda hope the Fine Bros get killed, and that's pretty lame. Hoping they end in financial ruin is pretty modest and an amiable pro-human viewpoint, the end results of which actually lead to a better future for humanity.

Being a complete apologist for abhorrent behavior only betrays the contract of the individual and society. You're basically tearing down society by not reveling in any and all losses the Fine Bros experience.

Completely. They make very good money from what they do, which is harmlessly entertain people. It almost seems like the perfect point to remain at, good income, happy fans, no real enemies.

But nope, it just wasn't enough. Gotta get more money even at the expense of coming across like total dicks. Fuck reputation we need more money. That to me is a very good example of pure, selfish greed.

Deservedly their brand has been tarnished as a result. I hope they see sense and abandon this idea but the brand damage is permanent regardless of loss or gain of subs.

I find it amazing that they did not see this coming or that no one warned them about it. They are not just a brand with a YouTube presence, their whole business model is YouTube and relies on subscribers, viewers and views. Ruining their authenticity and reputation is pretty much the worst thing they could have done, and I'm really curious just how much damage this whole situation is going to cause.

Btw did anything similar ever happen to any big YouTube channel?

I don't think people are upset so much as they are laughing at the absurdity of your post.
Could have fooled me!

Um. Ok.
I refer to my first post.

Holy shit, they're on their way to lose 30K subscribers in a day. Is that some kind of record?

They're losing 1000 every 10 minutes, in the next 10 hours they should lose 60K. They should be under 14 million very soon. If this just keeps up for another couple days, it could get really huge. I'm talking down to 13.7 million. Or it could fizzle out tomorrow. Will be interesting to see.

People calling out the Fine Bros hurts their feelings (maybe. or maybe they don't give a shit). People unsubscribing from their channels hurts their pocketbooks. It makes total sense for outside observers to care about how many people unsubscribe, as the more people who do, the more likely it becomes that they'll back off from this nonsense.

Edit: oh he's already gone. Still!

no this makes sense. it happens all the time. you become so big that you get stuck in this bubble where your perception of things and your reality is much different than everyone elses. then you end up making the mistake of making decisions based on those perceptions. its happened to many corporations and companies. One example would be this guy...

The whole thing with them getting angry at Ellen for showing stuff to kids and "stealing" their format showed me how far upp their own ass their head is currently residing. And this latest scheme they got going just lets me know that their head could go even further up their ass.

Pewdiepie did something similar but he was smart enough not to trademark "playing games in front of a camera".

If you're talking about if a big Youtuber tried what the FineBros did and failed, then I'm drawing a blank.

Seemed more like he was launching a network rather than doing some trademark BS.

It doesn't have to be a similar case, but more in general, did any big YouTube channel ever anger it's viewers enough to make so many of them unsubscribe?

Well, he's not a "big" youtuber but there is DarkSydePhil. Same thing happened but it was more gradual over time.

As of recently, Sam Pepper.

Wow, wtf at that "prank".
Checked out the channels subscriber statistics and there was indeed an impact, but a very small one.

Yeah that's a good point, but don't such companies/individuals have advisors, media managers or someone else who should prevent something like this?

DO people honestly think that prank was real? The acting was awful. Dude literally gets out of the car so fast and makes sure his body is completely turned. Then when he gets grabbed he just flails his body pretending to try and get away. The only thing horrifying is that people believe it was real.

Real or not, it's still a shitty subject to make a "prank" out of.

Plz don't be assholes in real life JonTron and GradeAunderA.
Hey I'm subbed to those guys too. Cheers. :D

Little under 7,500 away from under 14 million. Once that happens, I suspect a full reversal is in order.

Nah, i think its gonna have to go a little lower. Then it would only have lost 90,000. They could make that back in a couple weeks. I think its gonna have to lose something more significant like 300,000 or something before they're convinced to reverse.

This is fascinating. It feels like watching those people that raise a wild tiger and then get mauled by it and they don't understand why.

I watch Game Historian, LoadingReadyRun, Extra Credits/Extra History, and a couple other channels.

Those channels sound nice, I'll check them out later.

I use YT for recipes (Domestic Geek, Laura in the Kitchen, Sallys Welt), sports (The Badminton Association livestreams their biggest matches so it's completely legal and awesome), Nostalgia Critic, Giant Bomb, Gametrailers Reviews (their shows have become too YouTubey for me unfortunately, Huber Hype especially I can not handle) and Japanese stuff like Begiragons and Oogui to hear some Japanese for learning.

I mean YouTube is great and it works pretty well. I just hate that idiots become famous and thanks to vulnerable kids/teens make a lot of bank. (Not like TV is any different but I don't watch TV.)

I honestly think React World is a pretty sweat deal. Whoever ends up doing the Australian or the Italian version of these shows or whatever, you know it's going to be successful, because it will be promoted by the Finebros to their audience and carry their branding and be fully backed and supported by them. People will watch it.

No upfront costs, just a revenue share with you getting the lion's share. Honestly, it's almost a guaranteed success for a start up channel if done right.

Anyway, that's my two cents. I hope they don't start taking down random react videos, because then the criticism against them will be justified.

how is it a sweet deal? they take a high percentage of money and won't even let you use their logos/other production media..

they like to use the analogy of becoming a burger king franchisee, but Burger King lets franchises use their logos and media

anyone defending these jokers is a fool
