I'm getting addicted to seeing the number go down. There's something good about seeing people react to bullshit and do something about it.

Not a Youtuber, but Doug Walker/Channel Awesome has had some marvelous breakdowns over time.

For example there was the time that Doug thought people liked him specifically and not the show he put on, and decided to stop doing nostalgia reviews, and hired actors to do some other weird thing about making movies, which had him losing people left and right until he did an about face and I don't know if he's recovered yet.

And how someone over there tries to have an iron fist over the people they team up with and they lost all their best reviewers and had to partner up with a bunch of unknowns.

Game Grumps lost a lot of subscribers the day they abruptly replaced Jontron with Danny, and introduced their new show with Ross.

Of course, that was more of a knee-jerk thing and people came around when they found out that Danny was actually really funny.

Saw a video recently of an ex-CoD player whose fame went a bit too his head so his community turned his back on him.

Due to some bad stream management, Rooster Teeth's youtube channel lost around 100,000 subscribers in about three days last August. I remember watching their live stats go down about 2 subscribers every second for awhile, and I think they lost around 39,000 subs in one day.

Also, interestingly enough, nobody at RT seemed to give a damn at all. Which makes me think that, unless this level of unsubscribing continues for an extended period of time, it's not that big of a deal.

Damn it, why couldn't the Fine Brothers decide to do this 2 months ago, I could have written a project paper about all of this. The big difference seems to be whether the repsective action is an experiment/mistake or something inevitable like an individual being replaced or removed from the channel for whatever reason, both of which the viewers seem to be ok with sooner or later. Then you have something like this CoD player who pretty much ruined his channel through continuous efforts, and I assume he could have recovered if he had stopped early enough.
So basically you have to do something extremely bad or screw up constantly to really turn away subscribers.
This means that the Fine Brothers could still fix the situtation easily, despite the damage that already occured, and continue like nothing ever happened.

The next question is, how many lost subscribers really make an impact in terms of revenue?

either those advisors/media managers are not grounded in reality as well...or they are scared to go against the grain/say No/Speak up and against. (The latter being the most likely and the most common from what I've seen while working within big corporations)

The third option is that the respective person just didn't want to listen to the advice given to him. Either way, such a situation could have been avoided easily, so no sympathy from me.

They've lost 80k so far. Only a drop in the bucket but consider that this is also pushing against their daily gain of 5-6k subs.

These are engagements and should be stacked against engagements, not total subs.

Look at their reach with each video, its never more and often far less than 50% of their sub numbers. Some videos only at 10-15% of sub numbers.

So comparing the loss to the average engagement paints a clearer, bleaker picture, not to mention many of those engagements aren't from subs - people that likely won't care to view their videos again in the future.

Aiii

So not worth it
The thing finebros should be most worried about now is the negative attention gaining more and more traction and their sponsors panicking. The sponsors are what is feeding their company, the subs are one thing, but losing the sponsors is going to be their biggest problem right about now.

Yeah. Now whenever people think of them their first thought will be "Oh, those twats who tried to trademark reaction videos and abused YouTube's takedown system to remove "infringing" videos". Good luck getting sponsorship deals with that image.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Their YT channel lost other 3,000+ subscribers in the last 18 minutes, thus slightly more than 1,000 subscribers lost every 6 minutes. If the "1,000 unsubscriptions every 10 minute" earlier estimate is accurate, it means the pace has increased.

Yeap, the loss rate is increasing ever since they posted their update video.

They'll get them all back and more. I wish they wouldn't but their loss of subscribers right now is nothing.

That's the intersting part. You're definitely right, if they turn back now and say it was all a mistake, we're really sry etc.
But if reaction™ videos are continously being removed, who knows?

how is it a sweet deal? they take a high percentage of money and won't even let you use their logos/other production media..

they like to use the analogy of becoming a burger king franchisee, but Burger King lets franchises use their logos and media

anyone defending these jokers is a fool

I still think much of the condemnation here is because of jumping to conclusions.

People think they want to control all reaction videos on Youtube and that 'React World' is some Orwellian scheme to make that happen, but they're just licencing their specific show formats for use in other countries, the way some tv shows do.

Increasing even further? They lost other 3,000 subscribers in a bit less than 16 minutes now.

Provide entertainment?
Bring new eyes to content?

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm certain there are more people introduced to content than the imaginary people stolen away from other channels.
Oh brother, I'm not starting this bullshit with you again.

Internet "content" creation at its worst:

Martyrdom.

This falls so far down the hole of piggy backing off the work of others... it's insane.

Who's this dude and what did he do?

He makes videos about "internet drama" and very recently falsely accused a 63 year old runescape streamer of being a pedophile when it turns out it was a completely different person. He's apparently done some other gross shit over the years but that was the first one I heard about which was like 3 weeks ago.

What "format" do they own, I've been wondering this ever since they stated their "format" so please enlighten me?

Also, their hypocrisy adds salt to the wound.

I unsubbed the minute I saw their first video on the matter, sure the amount of subs lost isn't significant but the fact that they're losing subs in the first place is bad.

To what extent can you really license a format that is as loose and informal is this one?

What is the signature style that makes them different from any other reaction compilation?

How the hell do you copyright the word "react"? They're not spelling it differently or anything.
If there was a TV show or video game called 'React' then I assume it would be trademarkable in their respective medium as IP. I mean, otherwise I could now make a show called '24', 'Blacklist' or 'Scandal', right? Just a number or words. I assume they are just treating their YouTube vids as a branded show and trying to do the same thing.

This is just YouTube becoming more commercialised, until one day I expect YouTube will just be a collection of commercial operators posting videos in their channels and we'll all be uploading our own videos elsewhere.
