Firewatch Review Thread

Game sounds great, but not good enough for me to keep my preorder. I'll pick it up later this year for sure, but I'm refunding and holding off my repurchase for now.

Ugh fucking A I don't know if I can take stuttering, I'll deal with bad FR here and there though.

Also, there is an amazing (at least to me) videogame related easter egg

Posting pic with spoiler tag if you want to know about it

How did you trigger dialogue about this object? I found it, but had no option to Report it on either of my playthroughs.

I just won a decent amount of $ in a Super Bowl pool, and between this game and The Witness I've been considering buying a PS4, so I might need to finally take the plunge..

man, wanted to play on ps4 but performance issues are disheartening and pushing me towards buying it on PC

The stutter on PS4 might be dismissable if the majority of the game involved anything other than just walking and looking at things (thus drawing your focus elsewhere), the problem is when I'm staring at a tree line for several minutes and it stutters every ten seconds or so, it breaks the immersion really quickly.

Jesus.

Great game with an amazing atmosphere but anything that has those kind of issues seriously need to get fixed before I spend 20 bucks on it.

Push Square....

Sounds similar to SOMA.

Fuuuck. Looks like PC (an underpowered one) for me then unless there's a day one patch. If I really enjoy it I may still get it on PS4 so my sister can play and I can chill and watch her.

"hello?" "this is vagina"
A shame that I'll have to wait for a patch. Stuttering is by far by far the most irritating technical problem for me.

My girlfriend reviewed this game. She purposely avoided spoilers, in case you were concerned.

Firewatch is as beautiful visually, as it is emotionally. Its main premise, being so unique, enables you to pursue an intriguing mystery in a picturesque location, whilst discovering more about human emotion and psychology. All aspects of the game amalgamate to form such a brilliant end product that I have given it a perfect score. There are so many other things that make this game awesome but I am not going to spoil it for you in this review.

(Posting again for the correct thread)

It feels so good not having to worry about PS4 performance any more. Hopefully it gets sorted out soon though.

My review (in brazilian portuguese) - Score: 82%

PS4 version has some serious technical problems, but despite that, I enjoyed the game. Played it twice because of a game breaking bug, but It was a good thing in the end - could test the branching of the dialogues and spot some little details I missed on the first playthrough.

Maybe it has something to do with when you found it? I think I just opened and the Walki-talkie trigger was there.

Found it when you go deal with the girls

I reviewed on PS4. Had some serious stutter when wandering the world--objects loading in would stop things for half a second, pretty frequently. Conversation triggers would also stutter the game. Also froze three different times on loading screens and had to close the game and reload.

May have to wait and get the game down the road then...

Other than those PS4 issues it sounds fantastic and right up my alley. Haven't read much other than glances at summaries though for fear of spoilers. Can't wait.

Ah, okay, I may have found it too late or something. I intend to replay if they fix performance issues, so I'll try then. :) Thanks!

Hmmm might get this over Unravel.

I am definitely getting Digimon Cyber Sleuth, The Witness, & SFV. 4 games is more than enough, and everything will become irrelevant come end of April once U4 releases, at least until August when Deus Ex comes out.
unless Final Fantasy XV comes out in the summer ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Hm, I wonder if I might get a better performance on my laptop. It seems to meet the recommended specs.

Since I can't link my review for certain reason, I'll just leave my ending/conclusion.

Firewatch is a simply gorgeous game that is less about telling an explosive story and more about the little moments that make up the journey. While the game’s performance flaws do damper the overall experience, they are not game breaking, and players who enjoy oddly entertaining character interactions and beautiful game worlds will be smitten with Firewatch.

Positives

+
Stunning visuals
+
Entertaining script & acting
+
Good dialogue system
+
Ability to run

Negatives
-
Framerate drops
-
Loading issues
-
Little replayability

I know that the devs were saying that they've carried over the same focus on narrative from their past experience at Telltale, but I didn't realise that they also channelled Telltale's legacy of dodgy console performance.

Was going to jump on this right away, but I guess I'll wait a couple of weeks.

Excellent reviews! Congrats to Campo Santo. This game has looked awesome from the beginning -- just the right combination of tone, artstyle, and dialogue. Plus, I hear that the length of the game
is more on the short side
, so that makes it perfect for me. Day one.

Looking forward to this game. I probably should lower my expectations though. Indies seem to get less of a critical gaze when compared to AAA titles. Or maybe I'm just selectively seeing that.

Just to chime in...

Fuck some of these reviews are really, really spoiler-y :( had to read them for OpenCritic's video recap but damn, wish I hadn't :-\

Glad to see some great reviews coming out. I was all set on buying tomorrow but the PS4 performance is putting me off. I'll wait for a fix before diving in.
