It absolutely would have been a closer battle in a few regions around the world. But in my opinion the power of the Playstation brand would have edged them ahead yet again all things being equal.

The PS4 is selling so well because of the PlayStation legacy. We all know it's underpowered and has no games.
But for PS3 & Xbox 360 there was already GTA 4 that brought GTA fans to the new consoles for PS4/Xbox One they only have a remaster of a GTA game that came out on the older consoles so far & GTA6 will be the 1st GTA game made for the consoles from the ground up.

Supply was non issue starting in holiday 2006.
Ooft. Would buy again JUST for helicopter flights (if they remove/tone down that stupid turbulence).
In US I remember that 360 was very supply constrained until march, in april stores received a big shipment and sales grew (Was the first time that 360 outsold PS2). After that I didn't remember people talking about supply problems.
Don't know if in Europe 360 had bigger supply issues.
That statement was completely wrong & there is nothing that show other wise.
Xbox One is doing better than Xbox 360 & the OG Xbox so why is the success of the PS4 being credited to Xbox One's mishaps?
Xbox One started off better than any other Xbox so why is it so hard to believe that PS4 has started off better than any other PlayStation? what proof show that Xbox gave up massive user base to help PS4 be successful? it's the Wii U that lost ground from last gen so how can anyone say that PS4 success is because of Microsoft & not Sony?
Depends on four things:
1) PS4 price at the end of the year in multiple markets.
2) Software for 2017. The next GoW, the next Sucker Punch game, the next Blops, and Destiny 2 might be 2017 games right? I can see those titles moving PS4's.
3) GT Sport. If it's excellent, then it will move hardware in 2016 and 2017.
4) PSVR. If it's a hit then I see it being the companion purchase to the PS4 in 2017. This is assuming PSVR will launch at or higher than $299.99 and this is also assuming the PS4 will officially hit $249.99 next year.

The US did get a large shipment in April 2006. Worldwide, I think there were still issues but starting in Q4 of 2006, you can't say the 360 was supply constrained anywhere.

Many people fail to realize that the PS3 allowed Sony to win the Bluray/HDvd format war.
This makes no sense. PlayStation debuted in the 5th Gen. By your logic it should have lost.

It's like a lonely candle, spreading it's light in the darkness of the all-digital, all-maugical aera that is surrounding us all, including javin, who is gaming 60 hours a day. Alas, this light only can shine so bright when there is air to breathe, pie to share and overall fucking new releases in a sales month that's not as slow as teardrops running down a mother's cheek when she hears her beloved son shit-talking on Call of Duty in his rotten basement that once was a bright childhood vessel. A month that is not as depressingly ignorable as a pile of Tomb Raider bundles and not as poor and underdeveloped as Don Mattrick's skills to explain the XboxOne always online thingy.
Be assured my friend that I knew and loved for at least the last 7 minutes that next month SalesGAF will rise from the ashes like an alt account, eloquent and amusing like this new playstation Jack-surrogate whose name and face I always forget, spontaneous like ads with happy nerds switching from game to skype to tv as if it's actually worth it and rich on information like a freshly hatched PR statement right out of the gates (sic) of Redmond.

I believe creamsugar will show up, even if take days. In october if I remember correctly creamsugar actually posted 2 weeks later.
Can I just chime in here to say GTAV (like all previous mainline GTA games) was made right here in Scotland, something I'm pretty proud of. Damn if I only had a decent grasp of maths and stuck in on my computer games programming course (dropped out after 1 year) I could be working there, maybe... (Haha I'm a dunce).
But hey, this is a phenomenon. Mine craft sales are huge but GTAV is what, about 3/4 times the price.. Amazing stuff.
As for PS4, Sony deserve the success. They gave everyone just what they wanted and saw off a challenge to the established way of things when MS sought to disrupt the second hand market and pretty much control pricing entirely on their platform. Will never forget all of that nonsense and always connected BS. Microsoft have less and less to sell to people every month vs what Sony appears to have coming to the console. VR, some of the greatest devs in the world, and a growing quality of exclusive like Bloodborne, TLOU/Uncharted and hosting most of the indie games out there. It's a pretty great place to go for a gaming fix and besides a small number of decent exclusives on XB1 there's very little reason really to one the console over a PS4.

I'm struggling to remember sales monsters that even came close to the likes of GTAV and minecraft. The tail on those games seems to stretch to Mars.

The only reason 360 did so well was cause Microsoft made all the right moves while sony made every mistakes in the book, even the Sony's powerful brand recovered, if they both played there cards right I still see sony have a big lead, just not as big.

Well played! But its a shame you left the ouya out owning three consoles is better.
The problem with that logic is that it doesn't account for market expansion. A decade has gone by. Kids born in 2006 are playing asking for new consoles. Teens with 360s back then are in college or graduating. People in their 20s then are in a position of more disposable income. Gaming as an industry has grown. Games are more accessible than ever with really low cost indie titles in far more quantities.
Comparing the data of a previous platform generations sales is only a single marker to be used. I am pretty sure if Microsoft was asked if they would like more consoles sold in world wide than they have the answer would be a resounding yes. Especially since the Xbox One is superior in nearly every way to the 360.
I am by no means saying the Xbox One isn't on a more healthy track than the 360 was. Just that I think you are jumping to a conclusion based on a logical falicy.

There is PLENTY to prove it. Whether that is public information or not.
You bring up market expansion as a counterpoint but it actually counter the point that you & others are trying to make because the same way that the market expended for PS4 success it could have done the same for "Perfect" Xbox One success without taking away from PS4 success.
Also if the market expanded where did all the Wii buyers go if Microsoft is responsible for PS4 success?

I would say something, but I mean, it's not like the information on who Mulcair was, how the account was setup, and why they would be registered as an alt, is not out in the wild on a certain site that has a sales forum.
Banning the one person that gave us concrete info because of them being an "alt" is laughable, but I mean, that is neither here nor there.

I only see Nintendo with a loss of console fan base & what make you think that it wasn't the Wii that took the biggest bite out of PlayStation's fan base last gen? so what proof show that Microsoft somehow made PS4 successful & it's not PlayStation getting the PlayStation fan base back that Wii grabbed last generation?
Xbox One is selling better than Xbox & Xbox 360.
PS4 is selling around the same as the PS2 & a lot better than PS3.
Wii U is selling worse than the Gamecube & haven't even reached the Wii's 1st full year sales.

You can't use your thoughts & dreams of what could have happened to discredit facts & say they are irrelevant.
I don't think self inflicted perma ban requests should actually be perma, as situations can always change and at a later date it may be sensible for that person to jump back in. Just have self inflicted (non perma) ban requests and that's it. That way you can avoid said persons desire for an alt in the first place, should they want to come back in. As I understand it, it can be difficult to get back in once a perma is self requested. Unless of course I'm misinformed.

There has been extensive research by plenty of major players in the industry on the direction MS took the Xbox One and its effect on install base both before and after launch.
