Thanks lifelower

That kickass art cannot be the box art. It lacks a distinct amount of angry white dude's chin down-eyes up business with a gun. Focus groups told me thats the only way to go.

Infinite being mediocre is a very common (and correct) opinion. In you like it (which is fine of course), you may actually be seen as the contrarian.

The amounts of GOTY-awards (this very board considered it the second best games of 2013, in front of GTA V), sales, professional reviews AND user reviews (50.920 reviews on Steam, overall "very positive", 8.5 on Metacritic) tend do disagree.

Also, he didn't say it's mediocre. He said it's "garbage".

Also also, "correct opinion", huh?

BioShock 2 is a better video game that the first. Yes it didn't have the surprise and mystery exploring rapture for the first time or the high of the twist from first one, but it had the most consistent level design, an interesting story and much tighter gameplay with the dual wielding. It's an amazing sequel that far too many people kept yelling shouldn't of existed which was a bummer.
2 is the most gamey of the 3.

Despite being a fan of combat/score based games I prefer Infinite to 2. I'm sure it's the story and aesthetic that decide whether you love Infinite or think it's the worst game of all time. Gameplay is repetitive and on my first playthrough I got tired of the gameplay and just wanted to see what happened next in the story, but played through a second time just to have fun with the combat and really enjoyed it.

I wouldn't want every game to follow the linear/repetitive nature of Infinite but as is it's a really awesome experience that's not like anything else I've played (unless your comparisons are based on "shooting rooms of enemies") It's like playing a roller coaster

While I've "played" all three games, I never actually beat BioShock 1 or BioShock 2. However, I do still own the first two games, so I don't know if I'm ready to buy a compilation yet.

Having said that, that cover looks gorgeous.

I know what you mean. By virtue of Columbia being a live city when you go through most of it, its setting can actually support setpieces that are exciting and memorable unlike rapture with its sad, dark, and confined location.

There was something a bit off in Bioshock Infinite, it might have to do with all the changes they were making and how it was a hot mess at one point, there were a lot of great characters, some of the themes were superb and we actually see going on now in the US, but it felt like they could have done more with the setting, the actual city. It never felt like it quite came together like Rapture did.

There is no real world proof that Bioshock Infinite is an either mediocre or bad game. It can't be corroborated in any meaningful way. From Critic scores, user reviews, sales, GOTY awards, etc. Basically an extremely vocal small subset of people don't like it. Which is fine there's nothing wrong with that.

But saying its a wide held view Infinite is a bad game is factually false.

my biggest -and probably only- issue with infinite was the enemy placement. waves, and waves, and waves after enemies. there didn't seem to be any idea behind them whatsoever. the second i saw a tear from afar, i sighed. the rapture games at least felt like the splicers were there for a reason. other than that it was great, gunplay felt good (though unfortunate that you only get to have 2 weapons at the same time), exciting story, great characters and amazing art.

All kidding aside, that's one kickass cover, guys.

I hope the game doesnt make you play through the original campaigns first in order to play each game's DLC. I'd be willing to jump in if only to play these bits I never got around to originally. Especially the much lauded Minerva's Den (which somehow I've never heard about until this thread!) and Burial at Sea. I've played through all 3 main Bioshock's, don't make me play them again if I don't want to for the DLC.

Does it have to be Ken Levine though? Can we pick a studio who are good at crafting gameplay first and story second?

I'd be interested in seeing what another studio would do with the franchise. It's likely what 2K Marin is up to since The Bureau, since reading into things, the CEO of Take-Two said Marin is the new Bioshock people a couple of years back. So we're due to see something soon, I'm sure.

I mean, if we get a Bioshock Infinite 2 that's what BS2 was to BS1, I couldn't be happier. We got the big, wondrous and twisty story of Columbia covered, now let's dive into a more low key story that goes into more detail of the setting with mostly fresh characters. And that's just the bonus we get in addition to the gameplay improvements making it an actually good shooter for once!

I'm so happy they are bringing this game to the current generation of consoles. I feel like towards the end of the last generation we all kind of forgot about Bioshock after Infinite. Not that it was a bad game but it didn't stick in my mind for some reason.

When did people turn against Infinite?
Everyone loved the shit out of it when it was released.

Is this is Shadow of Mordor all over again?

I don't understand the hate Infinite gets.

It's a cool fucking game. Looking back, it's unfortunate that it was released in 2013, as it was overshadowed by some of the best games ever that also released that year.

Does every game have its DLC? I have yet to play Infinite's DLC, which I heard was better than the main game.

Only 2 and Infinite. Part 2 of Burial at Sea is very good and found part one pretty mediocre, but I wouldn't say either were better than the main game. Never played Minerva's Den for 2.
