Giant Bomb Vive stream | What a Time to Be a Vive!

Man, VR seems like a colossal waste of money right now. Maybe in a few years when there's some great games for it and the price comes down. Still enjoyed the stream though.

This statement in no way agrees with the last week I've spent with the CV1. On the contrary, I'm slowly finding myself in the 'VR is so much better that I can never go back!' camp, even with the software not being that polished.

The only regret I have right now is that I don't have a Vive as well....

Just want to say I appreciate the long hours Giant Bomb puts in for these things. No other site had coverage like this for the VR devices.

They might not put out the reviews in a timely manner, but they make up for it with stuff like this.
Reviews and the Daily news grind are the 2 things Giant Bomb is least about. The site was created to go against the grain of the usual review everything/report every pr release cycle of the ign/gamespots of the world.

Great stream. I want a Vive, but can't justify that cost on the gear or a new PC and well a new place. I'd need at least a hundred grand to make this work.

Anyone happen to know the timestamp of when they tried The Gallery(if they did)?

Since I still don't have shipping info I'm settling for buying a bunch of games I can't currently play.

This stream started amazing, went down for a bit, but then became amazing again with that multiplayer shooting car cover game, Budget Cuts and the Will Smith thing.

by the end of it i still came to the conclusion of "why would i buy this thing?". same with the occulus. putting a bit of a damper on my psvr preorder. hope i can get some impressions like this before launch.

I haven't seen a lot of the games yet, but the controller and room scale stuff have massively improved my perception of VR (versus the Oculus' lineup), as both experiences and things to play. I imagine the Oculus controllers will change things for the better on their side.

Please step to the calibration machine. The calibration machine is the calibration shaped unit in front of you.

Career over! You are fired!

The games just aren't doing it for me. I'm still excited to see more non-game applications, but seeing software definitely hasn't turned me around on jumping in. Will Smith's thing was the only interesting thing I've seen in VR, but that's mostly because it's cool to watch rather than actually do it in VR.

Still making my way through the stream. Even with all the poor games out there for this thing, there is enough there to make me want to buy one. Room scale and motion control is a must for me. I am going to wait for the new Nvidia GPUs to launch at the very least as my 7870 does not make the cut.

Never thought I'd sit though another mega stream like the Oculus stream again....but Here i am

Personally, the Vive def looks better than the OR but the room scale thing is going to be a major hurdle for most....the amount of room one needs to dedicate to that thing is insane.

These were my picks from the games played:

The Lab
Job Simulator
Fantastic Contraption
The Gallery - Episode 1: Call of the Starseed
Hover Junkers
Vanishing Realms
Budget Cuts
Water Bears VR
Tilt Brush
Unseen Diplomacy VR
Cloudlands : VR Minigolf

In comparison...I can probably count on one hand how many games during the OR stream looked remotely interesting.

Thanks GB ....love your work

Open the stream on either giantbomb.com/chat or youtube and click at the beginning of the seek bar to rewind.
Actual archive videos will still take 1-2 days to appear.

Thank you but i had already tried that, it didn't work from mobile!
This one actually works (from pc):

they skipped it because they thought it was going to be just landing the rover and an edutainment game, but Apollo 11 is supposed to be amazing. It's really more of a cinematic VR documentary than anything.

It's only one of man's greatest achievements recreated in VR after all.

Edit: I'm still tempted to get a Rift instead. I'm just more interested in seated experiences like cockpit games, and things like Arma that would be controlled normally. I just don't think I could be arsed to do the motion stuff after work.

I can't get over how well Justin Roiland's humor works in the Portal universe. See he's already floating around in other VR projects, hope it stays that way for a while.

GB has a studio and they were only able to meet the minimum room scale space? I don't stand a chance :(

Not too big of a studio or not enough free space in their studio though, as their tracked space was 3 x 2.7 meters or something. I can get that with no problems in my living room.

Can you stand up and move your arms about, and crouch down? That should be enough space for most people. I think it could be difficult for some, and may require some adjustment in furniture, but 'insane' seems like an exaggeration.

ignoring unseen diplomacy - probably the only game that really requires a largish area. Oh and waterbears but that has *no* logical reason for needing 3x4m../

I watched until the car combat game and then I had to sleep.

There's a few neat things, but it all seems like a gimmick still. These things need time to mature still.
