NISA to no longer publish Atlus games in Europe, Atlus not distributing NISA in US

But NISA and IFI does? You don't need to be a massive publisher to get games in Europe, they just don't think that it's worth it.

It's hard to buy the "Atlus aren't a big publisher" excuse when NISA which is arguably smaller/have less popular games than Atlus these days are able to publish some games (many of them their own) in the same week in Europe as they do in America.

So we're probably never gonna get Persona 5 here in Europe D:

This should be the name for the P5 OT.

It was already used for the SMTIV OT, and as far as we know, Persona 5 is still on track to be released in 2017.

SEGA not publishing its own titles is just bizarre, it's not like Nintendo trying to sweep Fatal Frame and Devil's Third under the rug.

I assume SEGA Europe would just publish instead?

Wishful thinking sadly.

Sega of Europe were quick to announce firm European release dates for games like Valkyria PS4 Remaster and Yakuza 0, long before they were released (Yakuza 0 is out in 2017!!!).

Meanwhile they've stayed completely silent on smaller games like Sega 3D Classics Archives and 7th Dragon III while the former has been released in North America and the latter has had two North American release date announcements.

It's also hard because Atlus is owned by Sega now. It's the same as saying Sega isn't a big enough publisher to release games in Europe.

Fucking SEGA.

It's such bullshit what EU Atlus fans need to go through to play these games :(

They didn't even announce a EU localization for Yakuza 0 until months after NA was confirmed. Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X is also still in limbo.

I wouldn't be worried about P5 not coming over, I'm sure someone will pick that one up. It's all their smaller games that are at risk.

This current situation is everything I feared. While "Sega" publishing all Atlus USA games from now on is good news for North America were nothing changes (in fact, everything gets better due to the re-alignment of resources between the two companies by people like Sam Mullen), I always worried it would be bad news for Europe, which only saw releases by a licensing arrangement with NISA from Atlus USA. Bringing things back under the "Sega" umbrella points to Sega of Europe handling things.

In a best case scenario I hope Sega of America/Atlus USA sort out a new arrangement for Europe and completely leave out Sega of Europe. But that's unlikely...

Despite Atlus's history with Europe somewhere deep down inside I thought that surely they would get their shit together for P5 and at least release it near to the American release. That faith is now gone.

Seriously what are they doing. I mean It's not like this is one of their biggest games ever or anything? They don't even change anything in the EU versions, its exactly what the US gets.

Maybe but it may take even longer than it would have under NIS (who could probably have gotten it out within a few months after NA release)

P5 is on a region-free console at least and I am also sure that someone will pick it up, but the question is when? Atlus seems to be in no hurry to find an EU distributor so it could take a while with NISA falling away. Most worrisome will be their 3DS titles because of the region-lock.

So Odin Sphere Leifthrasir will be the last Atlus game published by NISA in Europe?

I'm not interested in Persona 5, contact my lawyer.

One of the other annoying things is that Sega of Europe doesn't distribute the games themselves anyway, Koch Media does. Much like how Reef Entertainment distribute's NISA's games in the UK (and Ghostlight in Europe apparently).

But even then, Sega of Europe aren't even doing the bare minimum for some of these titles. I wouldn't mind a digital only release for 7th Dragon III so long as we just get the game.

And with the eShop supporting IARC ratings systems it's easier than ever to get a low cost international rating for a 3DS game - note how Aksys has been releasing games in Europe same day as North America this way.

seriously...
atlus had always been the "fuck europe company", now that they are owned by sega the "fuck europe and our european branch" company, it really doesn't bode well..

Huh, if Sega of Europe isn't gonna do the job and they can't find someone else to do it, wonder what the chance of digital only releases will be

It's kind of super irritating to be told that EU releases for games like SMTIV Apocalypse are being "worked on" one week, and to see Atlus' existing European publishing relationships literally collapsing the next.

It sucks. I wish I never liked SMT or Persona in the first place.

And people gave me shit for wanting Nintendo to purchase Atlus.

This was before they went all trigger happy with censorship.

My guess is that bigger games like P5 will be published by Deep Silver, actually if I'm not mistaken they already handle most of Sega's publishing in EU after Sega axed their own channels in 2012.

The smaller titles...well get ready to importing or to buy digitally.

Thabk God I remembered to get homebrew installed on both my 3ds'. Cause otherwise I highly doubt any of us in the EU are getting SMTIV Apocalypse at the same time as NA.

Atlusprime where are you?

Ahah that was my case as well.
It'd still be a better thing in terms of release schedule, but for localization...

yep one of the reasons it's so frustrating, there is just no need for it. There are fans posting pictures of money to SEGA Europe and SEGA are showing no interest in communicating or putting in effort, how can you mismanage a business so poorly, hurt business relations, hurt consumer interest and just generally fuck around? Someone at SEGA/ Atlus needs a serious boot up the arse.

Nintendo isn't that much better in terms of simultaneously releasing games in both territories. The only difference is that it's not only Europe that get's shafted but sometimes it's NA as well.

That sounds like a super shitty situation as well. I don't want Atlus games tied to Nintendo's shitty, region locked hardware.

It's not like they're perfect with releases either. Fans have had to beg to get games in NA and the EU brought over. And sometimes they never were.

My info may be outdated but I believe Sega of Europe has a retail distribution deal with Koch Media, so they don't even handle that stuff directly anymore.

Worth noting too, if we're talking tedious links, that Deep Silver - owned by Koch Media - published Catherine for Europe in early 2012.

No relevance to the topic at hand, but just felt it was worth mentioning that.
