NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

Well that announcement came out of nowhere. You would think after the crappy marketing of the Wii U and the fact it failed, they would want to make a big thing of NX, but nope, just slip out a small announcement about it instead. WTF Nintendo ! It's like they don't care any more.

If NX is not coming at Christmas, at least it's early 2017 but it's still a long time to wait, because between now and then, Nintendo's line up is pretty much nothing now Zelda is 2017. NX better be top of it's game or this could be another fail.

Could be like the Wii Remote. They have some kind of gimmick/novel way to merge handheld+console and they don't won't to show it off too soon.

"No NX at E3" could mean No NX console/handheld shown off at E3, but they'll show some footage from launch games. Probably wishful thinking though.

Both Sony and MS had big news blowout for PS4/X1 at E3. We saw pricing and how console looks like (for PS4) at E3 if i remember correctly.

That's largely it. They didn't reveal their system there. All E3 did was add a bit more information and their blowout pertained to games.

It'd be stunning if Retro is working on a Wii U game. The sales of Tropical Freeze and the Wii U in general should've immediately signaled Nintendo to get them working on the Wii U's successor.

NX is probably a Japan/handheld centric platform that will copy 3DS' launch year in terms of system sellers (3D Mario, Mario Kart) so they can afford to "waste" Retro to have something for Wii U meanwhile they prepare the next system.

Are they really gonna center it around the inferior port of Zelda? Really?
Thats bad... They need show something to build up enthusiasm for the console and hype. What, are they gonna keep it under wraps until launch day?

This is Ninty, they won't show nothing.

Totally happy with that launch date; launch it when it's ready I have heaps to play in the meantime.

Zelda delay though.... :-( my poor Wii U

To be honest i am quite tired of Nintendo and their bullshit now. We waig years for a new Zelda and it got delayed a few times, that's ok and nothing new. This year they already said Zelda would release this year. The other day i was talking to a few friends and we kind of imagined the worst case scenario for Nintendo at E3, NX a big let down and not coming this year and to top it off Zelda delayed again. Fucking hell almost all of that scenario is true.

It's pretty much almost certain NX is the only reason for Zelda's delay. Why not release it for Wii U during the holidays? Yeah nevermind i know the answer to that.

So does this mean we'll get Space World back?

Anyway... must be a bummer for the E3 organisation as well. Not having a new console there decreases buzz for your tradeshow.

Smh Nintendo missing the holiday season in 2016 is a bad move
Not necessarily. Remember they will be launching a new system mid-generation which hasn't even been seen yet. Without a proper, well informed reveal, launching it during the holidays, presumably alongside the PS4K, would not do them any favors.

I'll side with the people saying they'll do a Space World event to unveil it.

This is essentially a repeat of what happened last year. The NX launches later than we thought (like Zelda last year) then we get confirmation it won't even show at e3 (like Zelda last year)

I just hope the quality of their e3 won't be a repeat of last year but I'm not holding out hope.

Optimist: they were pushing the tech with hbm and 14nm and they can't quite get the yields so they have to delay a little bit. Going to be awesome though.

Pessimist: they're coming in hot and are hamstrung by previous announcements to release fiscal 2016 but there will be a big supply shortage and it'll only be a soft launch.

i was thinking that they might be doing it to get the price down (which is what they did with gamecube - they had tech and sat on it for a year). just going off more recent history, i think they're just having trouble getting people to make the games they need to have for launch. zelda's been in development since 2013, so it's pretty solid, but maybe other games and teams are having a tougher time.

it's also possible that the nx is actually two platforms, and they were originally planning to have the console launch in november and the handheld launch in march, but thought it might hamper the handheld version's success in the marketplace if it's seen as a dumb version of the console instead of an option. they might also be trying to spend marketing dollars better by advertising the two together and avoiding the us election cycle (which was cited in 2012 as driving up advertising space in america).

the lack of e3 thing is truly baffling though. i think that's what makes me think they're facing some serious issues the most - they can't pull people off the project to actually go down and promote it.

That's largely it. They didn't reveal their system there. All E3 did was add a bit more information and their blowout pertained to games.

E3 was their blowout, the system reveals were nothing, a few tech demos and "Look this exists".

E3 is how you market your product in the games industry. Period. It's THE TIME where you get the most mind share of the country at large.

If it's not there then they fucked up. Horribly. And it's going to backfire, horribly.

This will be the first 3D-era (so N64 onwards) Nintendo console that won't be at E3 before launch. Even the goddamn N64 was at one of the first E3s.

Goddamn Nintendo get a grip. Please. You're scaring the kids.

It was implied last Nintendo Digital Event that we'd know more about NX at next E3, or least we'd know about it by or around that time. The only thing I can think that happened is issues in having enough hardware, software, or both at launch.

Zelda's probably pretty much done; they already delayed it a whole year, so it'd likely be ready by this holiday. Delaying it for NX's launch makes sense, but for as much talk Nintendo's given before about supporting their systems to the end to keep trust in the brand, delaying Zelda U by 3-5 months on top of that is a pretty blantant admission of "You guys don't matter, peace".

I mean, that's bit surprising either, but... fuck, man.

It sounds like they got their backs against the wall. Hope they manage to get out of this mess, but I don't have much hope in them at this rate.

A new home console being drowned out by two reiterations? If they fear that then the NX is DOA.

Come on. NX wouldn't get drowned by the new PS4.

E3 is like the biggest event for things and nearly the enitre console gaming community just waits for it. Proves me somehow that Nintendo lost it and/or doesn't care at all. I kinda get a bad feeling for NX now.

The masochistic Nintendo fan in me wants to believe they just plan on having their own Direct not associated with E3...yet around/before E3.

It's a console, not a game. The NX needs a much broader audience than the Wii-U had to be successful. Directs don't even routinely reach the entire Wii-U audience.

That's why I think they should do their own event.
Sony did it for the PS4, MicroSoft for the Xbox One, even phone companies do their own events.

Since they are not doing a presser at E3 they should absolutely not "reveal" it by uploading a Nintendo Direct. They should do an event. Have the spotlight solely on them.

Nintendo CEO: "NX won't simply replace 3DS and WiiU"

They always say this, who are they bullshitting? NX will replace both, it's just a pointless safe statement to ease investors if NX tanks. Have some goddamn balls Nintendo!

Not that anyone is buying WiiU or 3DS now but if they say it will totally replace then all console sales are dead in the water. All console manufactures claim the current console will be supported after launch of new one. its Business 101

WTF?!? Why not? It's what everyone's been waiting for from them. Why in the fuck is it not gonna be at E3? Too busy trying to find a stupid name to give it?

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
But then Zelda is delayed too? That's pretty funny. Well, not for Nintendo. It's literally turned into a worst case scenario for them this year. I guess they're really betting on Paper Mario, Federation Force, and mobile.

nbnt

is responsible for the well-being of this island.
Is there a chance of this meaning it's just not going to be playable/on the show floor but they'll still show it on the E3 Direct?

I'm in no particular hurry to buy a new console - I've plenty to play for the next year on my current gaming machines.

So, with that in mind, I'm fine with this. I would *much* rather see a console launch in the best possible way than make some sort of stumble that could plague it for years. If that takes extra time, so be it.

I've no doubt that, when the time is right, we'll be blitzed with details of what it does, how it does it, who is supporting it, what to expect at launch etc.

Well...I DON'T know what I'm getting for Christmas.

No NX at E3 is pretty shocking. Unless Nintendo still has more Wii U/3DS games to announce (unlikely), E3 is going to be be devoid of announcements (although maybe no announcements is better than Metroid Federation Force and Animal Crosing Amiibo Festival).

I was really looking forward to an NX based Treehouse LIVE@E3. Seems crazy it's going to miss out on E3 completely this year..and will have launched before next years E3.

Handheld in March, Console in November 2017 has been one of my theories.

Or maybe it isn't a home console and dedicated handheld but something different. Every rumour so far has been wrong.

I think NX is a game streaming service - can be streamed to a TV or a handheld or your phone or your tablet.

Hmm I doubt they would decide to not show their next home console just to give one game a little more focus since the console is a much bigger news. They're propably not yet ready.

Also what version of Zelda are we gonna see at E3? The inferior Wii U version that most won't care about? Or the NX version that they promised to show us at this year's E3?

Never count Nintendo out is the traditional wisdom, but that's what l thought with the gamepad. No Zelda this year, not even talking NX at E3. Quirky Nintendo is becoming the lovable uncle you just worry about now.

Woah no 2016 release for Christmas... bad move Nintendo I think

If Sony is realeasing its new iteration of the PS4, do you really want to make Nintendo compete with that?

March is, for the moment, clear of anything that may steal the spotlight from the NX.

Also what version of Zelda are we gonna see at E3? The inferior Wii U version that most won't care about? Or the NX version that they promised to show us at this year's E3?

Nowhere up to this point an NX version of the game has ever been even hinted at by Nintendo. So... where is this supposed promise coming from?
