Rocket League Xbox One/PC cross-play coming today

One step closer to finally stop system separation of cross platform games.

Hopefully more devs follow Psyonix lead and will make all platform crossplay possible in the future.
And of course for shooters pc players should have the option to decide if they rather want to play crossplay with a pad or mouse and keyboard against pc only.
That's the best way to handle it and that would be the best way to balance it.

Games like Titanfall (2), Call of Duty, Fifa and especially games like Trackmania and Trials (which both would extremely benefit from it because track sharing is currently only on the same platform possible) hopefully do it someday too.

Stopping arbitrary restrictions like platform only online multiplayer was always annoying but it seems to be changing slowly for good.

Get the game whatever your platform is and play it with whoever you want.
I don't trust PC players to not just mod around stuff like that. Shooters are one of the genre's that probably shouldn't mix unless the PC game gets locked down.

If you tried out SF V or Rocket League you know there is nothing to be afraid of and if there is something wrong just disable crossplay in the options.

And honestly people love to blow up cheaters because they've heard something here and there and apply it to all games (like Dark Souls or CS GO).

Is PC x PS4 private matches only? I haven't played in awhile, or kept up on the updates.

PC/PS4 cross-play works across all modes with random players, but if you want to play with friends on another platform then you have to use private lobbies.

Neither of those are shooters. In fighting games, racers, sports titles, etc there isn't an inherent advantage for KB/M, but there definitely is an advantage in shooters.

And why is that relevant?
If you've read my previous post I stated that the should just do pad vs pad and mk vs mk.
Nobody cares on what platform you are, consoles are basically the same and pc gamers may have a slight (but as you can see in Rocket League) not unfair advantage in framerate, resolution and loading times (but they still have to wait for the other players to load so that's basically not relevant).

It's that easy.

If you've read my previous post I stated something that wouldn't even include crossplay with mk against pad.

Pad vs pad, mk vs mk.

It's that easy.
If you read my post I implied that PC players could probably mod around that restriction and use kb/m anyways. So it's not easy unless the PC game gets locked down.

Yeah and those players should get punished, it's that easy.
There are also people who get adapters to get mk working on console but at the end that's a minor minority and nobody really cares.

I honestly don't think there is nothing to worry about as long as the devs think it through.

Why? Kbm is a hinderance in this game.

Triple monitors full field views however are helpful :/

Yes, for three player splitscreen.

High hz monitors are way more beneficial than three monitor setup for one player.

And still it's a fair game, it doesn't change anything.

Like a fightstick you don't get magically better with a good high hz monitor.

Eh fuck it, I just bought it. Found a $25 gift card and bought Rocket League along with Saints Row 2 on the 360.

How about that Back to the Future car pack? I think I'll buy that as well.

Cool, Rocket League is a must have game on every platform.

Especially the new hoops basketball mode is extremely fun and I currently just play that because it's that good (hope that Psyonix will make it available in ranked, would just take one slot, 2 vs 2 is perfect)

before complete cross play i would much rather see cross platform partys.

Currently Discord parts (pc or smartphone) works fine and I heavily doubt that we will ever see something that will be similar what the own platform has.
SF V basically has a favorite system where you can add players but you can't message them.

I'm in favor for adding Discord for Xbone and PS4.

Psyonix has trouble enough to allow PC and PS4 friends to play against others in ranked and unranked against others.

*Everyone's turn.

Just because MS said their network is open doesn't mean everything and anything is allowed without meeting requirements.

Edit -

Also this mean XB1 being included in open qualifier is more likely

Thanks for clearing this up! People forget PlayStation and PC already had cross play on Rocket League and just because Microsoft says they are open to it (Console cross play), doesn't mean the devs simply need to make it happen.

More people need to see that quote about Cross Play on Xbox One from the Rocket League Developers. Its good PR for MS to say "We are open to it, we have no problem with it" but to have a dev say it isn't worth our time shows it just isn't that simple.

Sony's turn to make this complete, but they have very little interest in it.

Inb4 the "Shu said" force comes out. When Sony implemets this policy they've supposedly had for years is when it will be effective. Not based upon the words of an executive years ago on another game.

Have i stepped into some bizarro alternate reality world or something? The company that has never allowed cross play all of a sudden allows it. Now somehow the ball is in the court of the company that never had any restrictions to begin with? My head hurts.

Good news for Xbone and PC Players though.

I guess they just need far too many restrictions to make it worth the devs effort - hell I doubt either MS/Sony would make it more than just technically possible and leave all the effort on the dev to do...

Wow! Can't we just be happy for cross-play between Xbox and Steam? Next goal for Psyonix is definitely to get it working between all platforms. Good times for us players.

That's pretty damn neat.
A question to Rocket League players:
What about cheaters? Are they much of a problem? Or did Psyonix did a good job with anti-cheat?

It's all server side so PC players can't cheat BUT they can play in 60 fps or more (instead of 30) with no input lag which gives them a very slight advantage.

So far there isn't any known exploit I can think on PC atm that gives people advantages. There was a macro jump exploit about some months ago but that has been patched so whatever they have seems to be working.

Yh it really was perfect PR was it's makes people not think about what it takes to get to actually get this up and running, implies they will allow anything and it's down to other forces outside their own whether it happens because afterall they are "Open" and they are putting out an invitation to other networks to interact with XBL.
Didn't MS say that all devices connecting via cross play would need Windows on it?
No the only thing we know for sure is
The announcement was the opposite of that. In the past that was true because the game had to be a UWP app in the Windows store as that was were integration of XBL lived.

This is awesome. Xbox really needed this too, I've seen the numbers in ranked as low as 20 at times. Now I can actually play it!

and get Wow! spammed when I suck

To those saying psyonix need to get things in place and code it; IIRC developer has said they have already played PS4 vs XB1 in their studio?

Might have even been on GAF (don't quote me on this) but I'm sure I read something to that effect somewhere. It's on the big multinationals to sort amongst themselves.

Never seen anybody cheating on Rocket League. Maybe someone is and I can't tell, but it's been pretty flawless... And I've played hundreds and hundreds of games.

They could probably fix it for the PC version, but if they ever do PS4/Xbox cross-platform play they may have a problem with having the Xbox logo on a PS4 game and vice versa. Not sure how certifications work there.

This is true.

But they could, for example, do three "psynet" avatar. A blue one for PS4, green for XBO, and yellow or orange for PC. Red is reserved for NX :D

So, no official logos will appear, but people can easily recognize the platforms of the others players.

Some weird responses in this thread.

- If you haven't bought this game yet you seriously need to reevaluate your life choices.

- I've put more time into this game since release than any other game I've played in the past decade. I've never seen someone cheating on PC

- K/M is a serious disadvantage for this game. I can only assume that pro players use controllers.

- Xbone/PS4 are also 60fps most of the time

- Buy this game if you haven't

- Buy the damn game already

The ball is still in Microsoft's court. Full-stop. Want the ball to be in Sony's court? MS can remove all the restrictions that prevent Sony from being able to really do cross-play, while posting garbage about how Microsoft is so open to it to make it seem like a Sony problem. If you are the one late to the party, you are the one who makes concessions, you don't get to dictate terms to the people who are already there.

Until that time, MS are still the ones preventing cross play, not Sony...as Sony has been open to it for years.

It amazes me just how much credit Microsoft always gets for playing catch-up, post Xbox One reveal.

i never thought about it that way

Is anybody here a PC Rocket League player?

It would be interesting to test something... Right now if a PC player creates a private lobby with password, PS4 players can join him.
What would happen if both a XBox One and PS4 player join the PC lobby? Will we all play together? (assuming this news are true)...

Really hoping we see more of this.

Titanfall on PC is great fun but the population is tiny at this stage. Would be great to see the sequel have a larger, cross-platform pool of players.

Both SONY & MSFT have been pretty clear on their crossplat policies and it's a definite no for shooters to include PC players. That said, it would indeed be a shame if Titanfall 2 or ANY upcoming mutiplat shooter, isn't crossplat between PSN and XBL. Nintendo should join in too, next year when they launch.

There is no additional work required to enable full cross play. It's a policy thing at this point. The build we're patching in today has all the tech required for any platform to play with any other.

Congrats for getting something positive done in what still appears to be a mess of words

Hopefully other devs have the same fortitude and success

Man, E3 would be a great time to announce the first Xbox / Playstation cross platform game. I hope the companies can work out the politics.
