Wow, I guess it may be worth trying
What does 7 million players mean, though? Are they actually referring to 7 million sales or is something like a print magazine claiming to be read by a 100 million people, because their surveys show that each printed magazine is read by 100 different people?
7 million people have played since it launched. How is that not sale numbers?I'm sure it sold a great deal, but those aren't sales numbers.

To be fair, 7 million players doesn't mean 7 million sales. Though it shouldnt be too far off.Activision was expecting their biggest launch since Diablo 3, and this would fit the bill since it's bigger than Draenor and only slightly behind Diablo 3.
Edit:
Actually, Diablo 3 was 6.3 million in its first week: http://www.pcgamer.com/diablo-3-sells-6-3-million-3-5-million-in-first-day/
There are console versions. So it can be lent, rented, traded in, played across several accounts in the same console.1 game per 1 account per 1 player, Overwatch doesn't have a "Free Trial" version if that's what you're implying
This is incorrect. If there's 7M players that means it sold at LEAST 7M copies. If you factor in the amount of retail copies purchased but have not been played yet, it should be more.

Sure, but I doubt it's that far off from actual sales.

Will be 70M+ when it inevitably goes F2P in 2-3 years.

Does that mean we're gonna see Overwatch clones soon? Cause I'd totally play more games like it

Uncharted 4 #2 May NA NPD.
Didn't dig it but wow...guess many do.
I play it solo being an old fart with minimal free time and the game is a blast.Man I really want to give this a shot, but as a solo player (none of my friends even own a PS4, and everyone I used to play with has gone on to greener pastures) I hear it would be a nightmare.
Again, since they are likely counting unique account logins, 7 million players means at least 7 million copies were sold. It does not factor in retail copies that were sold through and never opened/used, and likely doesn't include people who bought the game on multiple platforms as it would count that as one User.
So again, it should be reiterated that the game sold at least 7 million units unless Blizzard is using some unorthodox way of qualifying people as users (which is unlikely).
I wouldn't be surprised if Activision sends out a press release soon claiming #1 new IP in history.
Obviously everyone on PS4 has been sharing the same physical copy.
Nah, it just means that sharing of copies or multiple accounts and such.
Wait, so is it sold 7 million or 7 million players?
Those are completely different.

Renting, lending, used sales, game sharing on the same console across different accountability. So it isnt 7 million sold, but it shouldnt be too far from it either. It's amazing and people bringing up 7 million players and I know people aren't trying to downplay it but what does the players mean? There is no free trial like Destiny where Activison can make up numbers right and they clearly aren't counting beta so it has to be 7 million sold then doesn't it? Or are we missing something?

I still think Uncharted will be #1 at retail it may be close though.
Renting and borrowing.
I actually completely forgot about consoles sharing, woops. Though I doubt it'd be that high that its influencing the player count that much, especially in its first week.Maybe? I don't know the sales numbers. It's still inaccurate to call them sales, however.
Because there are various ways you can play the game that don't involve an actual sale.
Lol did all 46 players make their own account on your ps4? If not, it just counts as one.personally I've let 46 friends come over to try the game so I know those numbers are not sales
