I'm willing to bet a sequel will not sell "millions" without PlayStation Plus. Didn't like 350k of those sales come from mandatory Japanese launch bundles?

That's why if they set a reasonable budget for a $40 dollar kids game it could still be pretty profitable. A $60 sequel would not do very well.

Because the first one probably made a profit, Cerny wants it, A sequel probably costs less to develop for since assets are already made and this one probably has a proper dev cycle.

Knack made money for what it budget was, so they feel like it's worthy to green light a sequel.

The first one maybe sold more than you think or was liked by more people than you think? They may have ideas that work with the basic concept of knack to make what they think it will be a good game?

I mean, how do you know for certain that making a sequel is a bad idea?

We've seen sequels for many things worse than knack. The knack is terrible meme is overused.

How much of Knack selling well was directly linked to it being a launch games and being bundled? Launch games can often sell quite a bit more than they would in another release period as there isn't a lot to pick from initially. I really think it's disingenuous to dismiss the generally negative response to Knack. It'd be like pretending something like Lair wasn't generally negatively received. And everyone would be like "What the fuck?" if Sony announced that they were funding a sequel to that.

I think the frustrating part is that Sony has other similar games that would also be relatively cheap to produce but are also much more beloved and well received critically and they're just letting rot. Like Ape Escape or Jumping Flash. The reality is that a game like Knack will always carry around a negative view. Previews for the new game will certainly mention that the original carries a 54 Metacritic. So why push through that?

So uh... a new Playstation All-Stars is getting announced right? Right..?

If we do, I want one with Crash Bandicoot and the Hunter (Bloodborne)!

also, for it to be way better and have SSB tier content...and most importantly, fun.

Maybe the team wanted to try again? No harm in that nd this is coming from someone Who's been yelling ape escape 4 since this thread started

At this point the tears and anger that would follow after a knack 2 announcement would single handenly justify its existence. I am a fan of the first game so the game itself would just be the icing on the cake.

Damn you're right. Sorry guys, just woke up. Just wanted to share my hype haha :p
Changed my post

It's alright

can't blame you that trailer took us all by surprise

I had zero hype for this year's conference until I saw this trailer and now I can't wait to see more Horizon next week.

still sold millions without those 350k, lol.

just saying...

Not to mention the game existing doesn't really take away from anything. I mean before this we didn't know Cerny was working on anything. So this game existing doesn't take away from anything we know or don't know. So I don't get the hate really.

The game is clearly aimed to everyone and we don't know Sony's plans regarding the marketing. This game could very well be bundled again. Who knows.

BTW, Thanks for featuring my question in the podcast, Shinobi! I got the chills when you read my question about any R* games info, hoping for some info. But hey, regardless, pumped for E3!

Can't think of a bigger instabomb than Knack 2. Yes, the first one sold well, but how many people actually liked it and would pay for a sequel.

You may be right, I'm not denying the possibility.
But what if you're wrong? One could argue (rightly or wrongly) that reviews were harsher to the game because many of them are filled with "this doesn't do anything nextgen for your flaming new ps4"
It's their decision to take and their money to invest. They have their data and they must have thought about it.

On top of my head from disliked games to loved games:
Killzone went from 70 to 91
Red Dead from 73 to 95
Street Fighter to Street Fighter 2
Persona to Persona 2

Knack is a kids game, they surely don't expect to created a 90+ masterpiece, but if they really make a new game they have their reasons. Just ignore it if you're so sure you don't want it.

Knack 1 Is better then nearly all the crash games after the original trilogy.

I can't agree with that at all. To be honest, Knack plays very similar to the two Wii Crash Bandicoot games, but without the variety granted by riding on different monsters. And if there's one thing Knack could've used, it's a little more variety.

It's better than the two GBA games I suppose, but that's not a feat to boast about.

What little platforming there was in Knack was actually quite fun. If they can focus more on the platforming than the brawling, I think it could be pretty solid.
