Zelda Wii U - Recap of 5 hours gameplay stream

There's technically woods, yeah, but I think we mean like... really, really extensive, dark forests that evoke the feeling of the Lost Woods in ALTTP for example. So far what we've seen are like... fields with parts where there's a lot of trees, not really a "forest" proper. Unless I'm mistaken.

Would be so great even if despite the overworld being mostly quiet that each distinct area could have music that starts up when the name of the environment cue pops up. Like it's quiet, you walk into the woods, LOST WOODS pops up and a theme like this starts.

Ah, I get what you mean. Well, I think we have to wait and see, but I'd love a dense and dark forest.

I believe the music in this game will be very dynamic. So it adapts quickly and seamlessly to its surroundings. Its very much possible that we will have many parts of the overworld filled with nature piano sounds, but also many parts with short and catchy music like we used to love in Zelda. Just because there are quiet parts of the world it doesn't exclude the other parts with more action and story going on.

For sure. Not at all writing anything off at this juncture. I think the excitement is just making everyone analyze every possible thing and talk about stuff not shown that we hope is in the game in some way.

It's still utterly insane that Nintendo just showed a new Zelda, and so much of it that people started complaining about seeing too much and repeated information, yet it was just such a small bit of the map and we saw zero core dungeons or bosses. That's a first.

Yeah, I saw this already. I was disappointed when he avoided the question.

It's disappointing (and you could see that in Nate's expression), but hopefully this information will come sooner rather than later. I imagine they're going to share tidbits of information up to its release, so hopefully such things will be answered within the coming months.

The one thing I was a bit disappointed by in the demo was the lack of a true forest areas. I really hope it's present elsewhere, as I love the idea of loadsa tall, thick trees and dense undergrowth. Imagine that with mischievous Skull Kids fading in and out of the mist!

We've seen one tiny area, which is specifically name a plateau. I have absolutely no doubt there will be a Lost Woods area somewhere in the 99% of the map we haven't yet seen.

Yes, personally, I can't wait for GameXplain's analysis. There are many details in the trailer which can't wait to be discovered.

Since I'm more interested in the story and characters than exploration, I was a bit disappointed at the Treehouse streams, seeing how they walk around a small part of the world for hours most of the time, but I really love what I saw so far. The crafting system, the battle system, the overworld, atmosphere the design etc all looks amazing. Probably better to save the story and characters for a later date.

If we are at it, my guess is that Nintendo will deliver a full blown epic story trailer with the announcement of the NX, to push that version more.

Speaking of, we have no idea how they're approaching the story. Skyward Sword was very cinematic and cutscene heavy which I imagine is where some of the "Zelda needs voice acting" dialogue comes from and people probably felt that this was their direction from that point on. Thing is, those who didn't like that seem to be who Nintendo sided with this time. I didn't mind it, I thought that game had an excellent story and even the best in the series and where I'm admittedly very traditional when it comes to stuff like this, the lack of voice acting or whatever didn't even really register to me as I played it.

I feel like if the game were going to have a story in the same way Skyward Sword did that this trailer would have been more cinematic in nature. The game is very likely close to completion and the story is probably all nice and finished yet there was an emphasis on gameplay and exploration, and the world itself. I don't get a sense that they're going to have a sprawling story this time, at least not through a cinematic presentation. The world itself may be the story this time, ala "Souls" with NPC's here and there that are voiced and give you information.

If Skyward Sword is at one end of the cinematic spectrum, this game looks to be at the exact opposite end-- but that's simply based on their E3 presentation. For all we know, it could have tons of cutscenes but I don't really get that impression. The impression I get is that this game is going for minimalism when it comes to the narrative design. Key moments of the plot may emphasize cutscenes a bit more though. That's kind of how I see this one playing out.

By the way, totally digging these ruins.

Really hope the game has a lot more like this.

If anyone is playing this demo anytime soon (I don't know when the Nintendo World NY demo ends) can you quickly go into the first person Sheikah Slate view and place a beacon on Death Mountain, then look at that location on the map? I'd be very curious to know exactly how far away Death Mountain is, though I think we can approximate it based on the VGA map.

This was done in one of Nintendo's videos, perhaps the one titled "Beyond the Plateau."

Threw this together.

I'm loving the new loot and stuff, but finding the green tunic will be one of my first missions.

I'm sure the classic Link look is gonna be a big deal in this. Ultimately finding the green tunic and Master Sword and all is gonna make you feel so accomplished. Can't wait to play this damn game. I had almost unrealistically high hopes for it and it's looking like they just might be able to reach them.

requesting gif of link coming out of stasis with the "Wake up, Link," him saying "Is it March 2017 yet? No? Then fuck off" and then going back into stasis

edit: wow that timing

Totally pumped for the ocean in this game, it looks like there's a long coast filled with beaches, peninsulas, and cliffs. It looks like you'll have to get a nice boat to reach the island in the bottom right.

I hope you get the green tunic right before the final boss. That would be an amazing moment.

After watching all the videos again (yes, again) I can honestly say it seems to have almost everything! Like, holy, everything in our past Zeldas has been accounted for so far. If I could add something though it'd be the ability to drop bombs from the glider sorta like Deku Scrub Link, and on that note I doubt we'll see anything in the way of masks, not even for superficial use like OoT. Maybe they'll make cameo appearances in shops. I was also thinking there might be more Easter eggs to be found like the paintings in TP WiiU or other retro hidden messages and characters, returning or recreated bosses? If I was to include 1, just 1 reimagined boss I'd love to see Volvagia return. I think the overall appearance of Volvagia was so ancient and Asian in appearance, it really stood out comparing the other bosses in OoT and just felt unusual. I'm rambling but I can't help it, there's so much to speculate and hope for with this new Zelda.

I was thinking about the options in this game and tried to make a list with all the ways people could kill enemies in the plateau:

1-Regular attack
2-Bayonetta "Special Dodge"
3-Sneaky Strike
4-Throwing weapons
5-Sniping with arrows
6-Hitting Explosive barrels
7-Exploding with bombs
8-Rolling boulder
9-Luring Bees
10-Wolf Link
11-Blowing them off cliff with Deku Leaf
12-Dropping itens down with Magnet
13-Burning the Environment
14-Cutting a tree over them

What else may work?

It honestly just sounds like speculation on ProJared's part, doubt it means anything.

Hopefully all the Zelda amiibo's do something, though. And I'm not saying this because I have regular (Smash) Link and Zelda.
I'm totally saying it because of that.

If this has sailing mechanics similar to Wind Waker it could be something ridiculously amazing. Now I want the world to be surrounded by an even huger ocean with islands and sunken treasure and enemy galleons and shit.

So here's ProJared playing the demo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY0i9OL96-E

He zooms out the map and actually starts scrolling up and you can see just how goddamn massive the map really is.

It's incredible.

And the map was zoomed in actually has a lot of details.

EDIT: Stamina upgrades also confirmed.

He hit a Bokoblin with an arrow, but since he was stealth the Bokoblin though it was th boar. It kills the boar while Jared focuses on the archer on the stand. Meanwhile, the now dead boar turns into steak, and the Bokoblin eats the steak and fills his HP bar back up.

Craziness!

- Baseball special (batting thrown rocks back at them with a club).
- Deflecting attacks back with the shield works for lasers, not sure if it also works with arrows, or if it damages enemies attacking with melee.
- Also technically covered by "sniping", but shielding against enemy arrows, then picking them up and using against them is pretty damn cool.
- Are we supposed to get the stasis magic in the plateau? That opens a lot of possibilities, like hitting impossibly heavy objects onto them.
- Finally, enemies could swing at Link, miss and hit each other in Wind Waker (for damage and even enraging and fighting against each other to the death), there's no way that isn't here too.

In regards to the projared video, it's really killing me not knowing what's on top of that tower he was climbing.

The fire rod looks amazing. Do we have any footage or gifs of somebody using it to completely wipe out an enemy camp?

That's fucking crazy. Also, I never even thought of climbing a tree and sniping the Bokoblins from there, it's every bit as awesome as it should :D. Everyone check it out, it starts at 4:30 in the video.

Completly forgot about the baseball, nice. Nice reminder about the laser as well, wonder if it can reflect other projectiles; Haven´t seen a perfectly reflected arrow, but don´t think it would travel all the way back. I previously included the Stasis in the "rolling boulder" sub-item, but since you can actually launch other objects it should be separated. Didn´t know about that mechanic in WW, really cool.

I wonder if you jump of a cliff with Link you deal fall damage to enemies. Or if you hit them while shieldboarding in high speed.

Love this game. I hope there's a hookshoot because climbing some of the bigger things takes too long.

It's much quicker when jumping up, which in the end doesn't consume that much more stamina per distance. WIth a few stamina upgrades it should become a non-issue.

Still, of course, if they don't put a hookshot or grappling hook (hopefully both) in this game, I'm pretty sure that's grounds for court-martialing and no jury in the world would acquit them.
