Halo 5 active players is the highest since Halo 3 (even before the free play period)

So, as good as 4? Not surprising. 4's player base was abysmal. At first I thought they meant as good as 3, but that's not possible.

Not sure this is somthing to celebrate.

I really couldn't get into 5 mp. It didn't feel right to me. Might have been the comparison after playing Destiny I think.

wut?

Sounds like you misinterpreted this information on every level

I agree it's the best Halo MP. The new movement mechanics transfer to the gameplay really well and they managed to incorporate sprinting and speed up the gameplay while still remaining faithful to the classic Halo gameplay.

I'd happily take a Halo Arena spin off that was dedicated entirely to Multiplayer/Bot gameplay. Don't care at all for Halo SP anymore.

Nah, firefight beta was a piece of piss because you could charge blindly into there action knowing if you died you'd be back in no time. There wasn't much downside to dying and it was almost impossible to lose.

He's not asking for it to be removed.

30 second respawn on Round 5, plus however long it takes to run across the map either on-foot or in a vehicle, its a long time.

It needs tweaked.

Sweet, good to hear. I've put more time in this than any Halo since 3. I may have actually surpassed 3 in playtime, not sure and too lazy to check.

This makes a lot more sense now:

That's a graphic 343i showed at the RTX 2016 Panel.

Did you understand what they were saying at all

Firefight got me like....

I don't play a lot of MP, destiny I tried w a few times to get into and whilst it is better than at launch I am still overall meh about it.

The rest I tend to just drop in and out, but firefight I have played every day since the free days and I will probably be playing it for a long time to come.

Finally, proof is there. The community love it. Best playing Halo of all time, 343 really carved out one of the most refined fps combat I've ever played.

I'm put off by other FPS because it lacks the same finese as H5.

I'll be playing the multi for years, or until Halo 6.

the campaign was a train wreck. no amount of free MP stuff can fix that :|

Multiplayer - Best in class
Single Player - Great campaign with some serious missteps
Single Player (4 Player co op) - Best fun Ive had with a FPS campaign since Halo 3

Opinions and all that :)

I want to see some numbers. I thought it dropped out of the top 10 most played list quite frequently and it placed below Battlefront which had small numbers, not sure how acurate those lists are however.

I really think too that the Halo 5 multiplayer should not be switched to a new one with Halo 6. For the first time in ages there is a really strong and dedicated player base and the game is also 100% valid in high levels of competitive play. To throw that away in favor of a new iteration would not only be a waste, it would be risky.

Halo 6 should have a huge, awesome campaign and a ton of new content to the existing multiplayer in the form of an expansion pack. (Of course that creates, too, some conflict with the philosophy of keeping all content that influences playlists free.) If Halo 6 were to come to Scorpio, then it should only differ in terms of graphics. And if the Xbox One version of Halo 6 had better graphics (and they'd want to update the MP graphics too), it should be done in the way of a massive update to the multiplayer component.

I don't know if some of this is a pipe dream, but the main point is that the existing Halo 5 MP and its community should be preserved, and one should not introduce anything that would divide the player base.

i agree, opinions and all that... the most common opinion seems to be that halo 5 has the worst campaign/story/writing of all the halo games. even considering all the lore and expanded universe stuff you have to know to make any sense out of it.

then again i'm glad you liked it. i guess since there are people like me that care more about campaign than MP there must also be people that liked halo5's campaign :D

:p

"since Halo 3" is a pretty telling qualifying statement. It's definitely not doing as well as Microsoft would like. The MP and SP aren't as disappointing as Halo 4 so that probably helps a lot. Hopefully they continue the the trend with Halo 6. 343i seems like they're finally getting the hang of this.

But let's be honest here, Halo 3 was basically THE game to own. The popularity of Halo was insane at that point, the whole finish the fight etc. I think Microsoft is pretty happy with the fact that Halo 5 does better than both Reach and Halo 4 that were both released on a console with a bigger install base at those specific points in their life cycle.

But this is very much deserved for 343. I loved the campaign (for me it was the perfect blend of Republic Commando and Halo) and the MP is almost as fantastic as the post launch support they've been doing. Can't wait for 6.

I agree. In fact, I think they should split the two into two separate items. A constantly updating Halo MP, and then the every couple years Halo SP.

Kinda off topic, but is there still a place to track all of my stats and rank like I did with Bungie.net back in the Halo 3 days?

Looks like the best time to return to Halo, too bad none of my friends have a Xbox One :c

Playing Halo without friends suck, and I love this game :/

343 turned it around with this title. The gameplay is nearly perfect. I've played pretty consistently since launch except a month or so break when they released zero content and I got my Vive.

I really hope they changed little to nothing for H6 MP. Just build for Scorpio, make it polished as ****, and for god's sake include all standard game types and features at launch.

Im excited for the PC release of H5: Forge and ultimately H6 but despite having a powerful PC I will remain playing Halo mostly on consoles because I suck with Kb/M. Unless they put aim assist on PC for controllers... but that would piss a lot of PC gamers off.

Totally deserved. Gameplay is king and this has it in spades. Their commitment post launch has been second to none which has kept players coming back to it. Congrats 343!

Firefight brought me back. I had taken a break for it a while. Still awesome but Arena is not particularly fun playing with randoms.

Great game and love the multiplayer.

Two requests:

Actual big team battle maps.
Classic FireFight.

Support has been fantastic so far.

In all media, only true fans who consume every book, film, game, or pog collection deserve to know what's going on.
I can't believe that. Halo 3 sold 15 million copies, and was the #1 most played game on XBL from 2007-2009 when MW2 came out.

There's no way a game with not even 1/3 of the sales can have a higher Active Players than Halo 3 at the same point in time. (May 2008)

EDIT: Wait, since Halo 3 means it's excluding Halo 3.

I believe it. Reach and Halo 4 were pathetic in terms of Player Population after launch. Good job on fixing a problem you created 343...

Bungie made reach which started the horrible decisions on the multiplayer. Technically if you want to you could say that Halo 3 started it with the armor mods that you pick up. Halo 4 continued the Reach and 3 idea. Halo 5 did it right. So you can't really place all of the blame at the feet of 343.

Kudos 343!

I know I've put more time in this than the last two games. It plays really well. I hope they never try and charge for maps again.

Good news, the multiplayer has been top notch. Loving the support from 343 as well, keep it up.

It's a great console FPS. IMO, it is the best FPS on consoles right now. It feels great to play and at a rock solid 60fps with dedicated servers. Controls so tight.

If anyone is interested in population distribution, only thing 343i has put out is this playlist popularity list for December:

343i is showing how to maintain a userbase.

Continuous updates layered on top of a great MP mechanic.

Shame about the SP, but here's hoping for good things for 6.
