So with them going in on a hybrid they really can't risk another Wii U/Gamecube if they have no 3DS/GBA to back them up.

It really has my mind spinning how they can satisfy both audiences. Handhelds are lower priced in hardware and software, but consoles are higher end and cost more. I really don't know if you can satisfy both sides without leaning too strongly in one direction. So someone looking to buy the 3DS successor could be turned off by paying $300 for a console to get to it.

My only takeaway from the OP is this line:

So once again, we won't be getting much if any third party support because devs don't want to have to build lesser versions of their games/engines for lower-end hardware.

This only really matters if Nintendo are your own devices. Owning a PS4 and PC means I don't really care about western third party support. What's more likely is that there will be a lot of Japanese third party support though.

That's fantastic news-

I've been playing a lot on my 3DS while my WiiU is gathering dust. Personally speaking, I've come to a point in my life where I simply don't have the time to play multiple consoles +a handheld. I also don't think the NX needs to be a powerful console. Nintendo have shown us time and again they are able to put masterpieces together with limited hardware.

I am extremely disappointed I at least hope it can run Zelda at 1080 with a vastly improved draw distance. If it can do that then it will be OK
Given that draw distance is commonly a function of CPU speed, I don't see why this shouldn't be able to significantly improve on Wii U in that regard.

A more powerful, refined portable console that can play all of Nintendo's stuff is something I'm definitely interested in. Portable has been Nintendo's strong suit for a while, so them embracing it fully seems smart.

Something Go sounds horrible for a game console. Nintendo pls

I wonder how both this and the 3DS will coexist, I mean, will they inmediately throw the 3DS to the garbage? Will there be ports from 3DS to NX? Will the games be compatible?

Re Graphics. An X2 powered handheld could potentially/comfortably be 3x as powerful as a WiiU. A console where MK8, Super Mario 3D world and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze ran at 1080p/60fs

Hopefully Nvidia includes a gsync display. Taking away the need to be 60fps in handheld mode would be great

tenuously links anime, pedophile and incels
NX will most likely have better single-threaded CPU performance than X1 or PS4. So that's pretty cool, after being tied to the ANCIENT PowerPC 600 architecture for the last 3 generations.

So its basically a Super Gameboy?

Also wtf at some of the comments here. People were really expecting to play Call of Duty on this thing? That ship sailed with the Wii and sank with the Wii U.

Okay here is my prediction based on this rumour

Name
Nintendo Go

Media
Cartridges

Power
×1.5x better than Wii U in docked mode

System Features

Handheld Mode
System is basically a small 7" tablet with a 540p capacitive touchscreen. Can be used as a iPad. Can add attachments on each side of the unit for traditional controls. System also has camera and gyro for AR features

Console Mode
There is a docking station that has a HDMI passthrough and charges. Once the system is on this docking station system overclocks for higher resolution graphics it allows this to happen as system does not have to worry about battery life in this mode. The 2 control attachments can be attached together to form a regular controller. The docking station also has wireless video streaming for instances you want to use the 2 screen features for some games like the Wii U.

Price
$250 (NVIDIA Shield is currently $200)

Your probably on point.

So they have learned nothing from the Wii U whatsoever... I can't say I'm surprised.

But I'm there day one because I love the abuse.

My takeaway is people don't realize that isn't happening no matter how fucking powerful the console is, third parties moved on, they won't come back.

Meh I don't really know what to think... I would have preferred a true home console but okay. Maybe they will release the SCD (at launch or later) too boost the handheld in console mode or outside via wifi ?

I don't really visualise the "gimmick", it sounds cheap.
I would have loved to see something like this thought : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udkU101fFOk (but yeah quite difficult to do in terms of power, battery life and reasonable price)

Right. But the console apparently has a 540p screen for a start (so thats a lot less of a power hog than 720p). Plus when plugged into the 'base' unit it no longer needs to be limited by battery power - ie the TDP can be alot higher than when in 'handheld' mode.

Where are you getting 540p from?

I hope it is as small and comfortable as the Vita is.

Someone kind of brought this up, but I lost it so sorry for not quoting, but the VR possibilities are really cool with this - just detach the controller aspect and slide the screen into a VR device.

Will wait until they unveil it before I say anything regarding being interested or not. Ballsy move from Nintendo, but hopefully it isn't another gimmick like the Wii U.

So it's a handheld with a HDMI port?

This thing better not be price more than 200€.

Should have made a Nintendo phone. I'd buy that

Only thing worries me is the screen. Nintendo hates high resolution screens, they put a goddamn Game Boy PPI screen on 3DS. To cut back the costs? A 1080p OLED screen doesn't cost what it used to.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Yea I gotta agree with those saying Nintendo is just transitioning into mobile, handheld only; their Plan B. And not really competing with Sony or MS. I said I can see them doing this too. Makes sense as they are the only ones doing dedicated handhelds right now.

That said I always hear good thing about Shield. For a handheld it will be powerful.

Also agree I cant see any PS4, XBO ports to this. It will be Nintendo and most if not all NX exclusive games for it. Maybe some PSN, XBL games might show up on NX. Maybe.

Maybe the PS5, XB2 and forward will use Tegra...
