I love previews and gameplay walkthroughs because you get to see what's in the game, what you'll be doing and the gameplay loop. I listen to the commentators but take what they say with a grain of salt in regards to the game being good or bad. I really listen for confirmation on what is or isn't in the game.

Outside of games that I buy on release day or pre-order and pick up on release day, I usually watch gameplay walkthrough videos on youtube without any commentary simply so I can just see the game itself and get an idea on how it plays and if it's for me or not.

Two more days and I'll be able to play around with Mafia III myself. :)

Fuck Lucasarts - what a shitty employer.

This is almost new thread worthy

Agree 100%. I have no interest in Star Wars whatsoever but damn, I wanted Star Wars 1313!!! :(

I don't know. Maybe you can read some headlines and read some hyperbolic content to think about how previews negatively contribute to the overabundant hype culture that is a cancer on this industry?

But nah. Must be that I'm wrong. Previews are great. Keep on wining and dining those reviewers slick.
I tend to read the information present in previews, as most of them are filled more so with information about the game itself than the opinion of the writer. Or in this case, a youtuber.

I heard it was one particular executive at Disney that shut down 1313. Between that and Prey 2... there's a huge hole in the market for sci-fi bounty hunting. I was expecting 1313 to be a rival for Prey 2 with each one's sequel pushing the limits of greater gameplay.

(yeah, I know the reply is OT... Enjoy M3!)

I did an hour and a half video interview with Jesse that going even more in depth about some of those situations on 1313 as well as some other games he has worked on that aren't even getting released. Its a hard damned industry at times.

-Not amazing graphically but worst was seen in 2016.
-Some issue with graphical effects like sudden color change.
-The clipping, not disturbing but obvious
-IA not bad, they are intelligent and it's getting though when backup is coming.
+Strong story, artistical direction and soundtrack.
+A good game to wait the next RDR.

It's not about the game, but the fact that they fired them and told them before GDC that everything was fine and they fired them afterwards.

You have a link to that?

Agree 100% with this too. It's all fucked up.

Well I've been playing the ps4 version for about 30min. I runs well, and looks pretty damning good too. So far I'm enjoying it, though I guess I'm still making my way through the tutorial.

Looks like it's getting a midnight release on Steam, Now set for what looks like 9 PM PST on the 6th, while earlier today it was timed for 10 am PST on the 7th.

Nice to hear that, please keep us up with your impressions

I like the gunplay and driving, though I'm still getting the hang of moving Lincoln from cover to cover and around the game world. Feels a bit clunky but not Witcher 3 clunky. I suppose I'll get used to it in enough time like other games.

they've updated that now to reflect the 9 PM Pacific/Midnight Eastern release time...so 1 Day 3 Hours to go

their Twitter account confirmed the time earlier but Steam's Store page hadn't changed the time yet...now it has

I'm pissed that they didn't send out review copies. I don't have GTA V on my PC and the motorcycle expansion for gtao came out. I'm debating whether getting that may be a safer bet.

I'm in Australia and it's currently saying 14 hours

Same. 13hrs, which comes to 2am AEDT on 7th October.

Has nvidia released game ready drivers for this game?

Just found some info on the graphics for PC ( not sure if it's legit) from steam community.

It technically could be unlocked now if those Australia Steam times are correct.

Though I suppose in 2 hours when it's 24 hours in the US and we know it'll launch will be the best bet.

Just finished playing for a few hours. Haven't done too much yet.

- Probably the most story focused opening I've seen in an open world crime game of this type in a long time, most likely since Mafia 2. The first 90 minutes-2 hours are basically a montage of quick gameplay scenarios, traditional cutscenes, and documentary footage/interviews setting up the meat of the game. Very, very interesting storytelling style. Cutscenes are well done, easily a cut above any comparable open world games in cinematography and writing. Almost feels like the kind of flair that MachineGames gave Wolfenstein: The New Order. Performances are good, quickly establishing many characters and creating a nice energy right out of the gate.

- Combat mechanics are very snappy. Playing on medium with no aim assist, the few shootouts I've been in so far have been scrappy and physical. Guns have heavy recoil and hit feedback on mooks feels solid. The cover system is basic, but works how you'd expect, and cover swapping is very quick. No GTA awkwardness here. I haven't done nearly enough to judge the AI yet, so we'll see.

- Driving with the "simulation" option feels good. Cars shift their weight and can lose traction in a similar way to Mafia 2/GTAIV, but never to the point that it feels sloppy or loose. Damage modeling is weak though, which makes those big heavy crashes lose a little of their punch. I wish the cars had crumple zones similar to GTAIV, even if these 60s gas guzzlers were tough.

- I'm pretty sure some people are going to take issue with some of the daytime lighting, but I actually like what they're doing here visually. During the day the game has a baked, bleached look to it when you're facing the sun, almost like a "nostalgia" filter in a period film. I'm frequently reminded of the way sunlight works in Assassin's Creed Syndicate actually. At night it takes on a cooler hue with lots of lights and neon popping off the downtown areas. Very bloom heavy and hazy. Some ground/wall textures are a bit eeehhhh, but the overall art direction is strong. Great interiors, use of lighting, big chunky characters and vehicles, strong city design, etc.

- My only glaring negative right now is lack of HUD options. At the very least there should be a rearview mirror and speed gauge toggle, but I also want to turn off the mini-map sometimes. The screen is just needlessly surrounded by things when you're in a vehicle and have mission objectives.

I haven't gotten into the city takeover gameplay yet (the icons aren't even on the map), but I like it so far. Very story heavy upfront and lays a good foundation for the violence to come. I'm right on the cusp of the game opening up. Curious what the rumored day 1 patch will address. I already downloaded a 100mb update.

Also: Hood rolls/slides are great, and every open world game needs them

I like what I am hearing about the style. Games don't do it enough. I can overlook a lot if a game has an engaging, consistent and confident theme.

Whoops, I forgot to mention the soundtrack. All the videos we got in the last 2 weeks with gaming websites and youtubers allowed to record footage without the music (for copyright reasons) did a disservice to the game. The soundtrack is stellar and really anchors the entire experience firmly within the period. The opening few hours are just a barrage of classic tracks, and the radio keeps that going with a few in-universe ads/monologues and real world news updates filling the space in between. You can also hear music/radios blaring from houses which is cool, as well as live music from clubs/bars.

A lot of black woman are really nice btw, greeting you as you walk past, with Lincoln auto-responding in kind. Mobsters, some white guys, and segregated business owners though.......not so much. Many pedestrians have been gut punched and slammed to floor already. Ain't no peaceful protest in Mafia 3, brehs

After playing Virginia, and seeing the way they use jump cuts to get to the action and avoid a lot of the bullshit, I wouldn't be surprised if AAA games start going to that sort of storytelling style.

Would be a pretty cool idea if done right. And a lot of people who haven't seen it done before would lose their minds at how good it looks (I think when done right it looks amazing).

Also that gif, am I wrong in assuming those are the nicest looking cars in an open world game. Something about the way the street lights glare off the windshield. Also the shine on the car really emphasizes how much steel those cars used to be made of.

Impressions sound great. Thanks!

How's the sound mixing? This better have some decent sounding guns and cars.

I also really dig how gun play has real weight to it, with baddies reacting appropriately to where they are shot and crumbling to the ground.

If there is anything in the world that I am a sucker for bigger than a good old fashioned crime drama I am not aware of it's existence.

I've been a huge fan of the Mafia games and I can't wait to actually dig my teeth into this game. Feels like this has been coming on forever now and it is finally here. Tomorrow night can't come soon enough!

I haven't played enough to give detailed answers but...

Regarding gun sounds: Out of the box, I wasn't disappointed, but I also wasn't blown away. It's ok, not RDR tier. Like 99% of shooters I wish they were mixed louder, but I also didn't have time to mess with the audio settings yet, or really pump the volume. I'll take note of this as I get deeper into the game, into more shootouts, and use more weapons.

Vehicles are solid, muscle cars in particular are throaty, but again, I wish the mixing on engine noise was louder. Crashing and tire squeals are noticeably loud, but the radio was drowning out the engine a little, and I didn't adjust it yet because I was vibing.
