Where is the hype for ps4 pro???

I've got one pre-ordered, but I'm still not really clear what the benefits are going to be. I'm excited in the same way as when I have a new video card on the way with which to upgrade my PC, except in this case, I'm not completely clear what the benefits will be for me in each situation.

Did they ever clarify whether or not there will always be benefits even in 1080p with compatible games, or will some benefit only with a 4K display?
worse case scenario for a game in 1080p is downsampling from 4k-ish which is supposedly still a decent boost in IQ

The thing is that there is close to no talk at all about that.
Where are the many threads about the performance gains? There was the df thread after launch and a little bit of that in the ot but this is all to be considered as old by now.
it's been brought up in this thread more than once and a few times in the latest Xbox NPD thread. that's the most recent mentions fresh in my memory

I don't know enough about it to get hyped.

I don't have a 4k/HDR TV, so what's it going to do?

Are some 30 fps games going to be 60 fps? Are games going to look significantly better (like changing a PC games settings from medium to very high)? Are devs going to give me an option (What PS4 Pro mode would you like? >4k resolution >60 fps >better graphics)?

I haven't researched it at all but I don't think I should have to, it's Sony's marketing departments job to get the message out.
I think skipping E3 was a big mistake, if they showed it off at their E3 press conference I would have watched it there, but I didn't care enough to watch the specific unveiling event.

With how Sony has treated it so far it feels like it's meant to be a niche product so I don't feel the need to have a closer look. I don't know if that's true or not but it's Sony's fault that I have that perception.

I don't think they've got the message across to the general public yet regarding the differences between the consoles,at least not yet.

I saw the funniest thing on the front of the PlayStation magazine at the shops yesterday it had the Pro in the front and the title was:

"Meet the machine that will revolutionise your gaming"

Lol OK.

No Bloodborne patch. No Dark Souls 3 patch. No Witcher patch. No Street Fighter patch.

What's the point.
For new games that come out. Honestly I'm a bit disappointed too, but I'm looking forward to newer games like FF15, BF1 and The Last Guardian looking better.

The folks in this thread talking about how obvious the benefits of a Pro are and how they can't understand why people don't get it remind me of all the people who mocked skeptics of No Man's Sky or The Order: 1886.

They hype themselves up based on zero evidence and then claim they've been had.

"folks really oversell the performance boost the Xbox One S provides" was what you said. Who is overselling it? We know what the performance gains are and I don't know who is overselling it. What makes you think they are overselling it? To mention it or to make it look like a big upgrade in performance?

Ya, I think people need to get their expectations in check. People seem stuck on more than double the GPU performance without factoring how much and how often that will be used.

in my casual usage of neogaf the number of times i see it brought up compelled me to make the statement that people oversell it. i don't have a paper trail of posts and names to back it up. if you disagree that's fine

Or 99% of people.

Seriously don't understand the market for this thing, and Sony's messaging since the reveal has been all over the place.

It's no surprise there's no hype

99% of the people in this thread don't have 4K TV's... right now. But adoption is only going to rise as prices drop and content becomes more available.

How many people had HD TV's when the Xbox 360 launched in 2005? Was it a poor move to include 1080i support back then?

I think the concept is absolutely sound. It's basically a PS4 future proofed for the next few years, no more no less. It's the messaging that's been a little shaky.

It really hasn't been. The worst they've done is not outline how much it can do for 1080p display owners, most likely because all of that is entirely dependent on individual developers.

The hype is coming.

Sony had an entire new platform to launch!

It's not strange the focus has been on PSVR.

You'll start to hear a lot more about PS4 Pro in the coming month leading up to release.

Then we are fine.

My list why:

  1. Hardware increase is mediocre.
  2. No 4K Blu-ray player.
  3. Very unattractive design.
  4. With hardware specs it would be near impossible to actually do 4K making it pointless as it doesn't have a 4K Blu-ray player.

Slim exists for a price sensitive market bringing more people into PlayStation

Pro exists at the same price as the launch PS4 as an option for those that want more power.

Isn't choice a good thing? This if you saying you don't have 4kTVs - it probably isn't for you (at least until we see more information around higher detail settings or downsampling). The launch pitched this squarely at 4k TV owners which seems fine to me - I don't expect every product to be made just for me.

The power seems to be just about enough to pull off this checkerboard 4K approach and do a good job of it. CPU increase isn't big so this was never going to be a magical 60fps console - it was always going to be more/prettier pixels at a similar frame rate. (Barring some edge cases where the original PS4 version was close to 60fps when unlocked)

All i want is a DRIVECLUB patch.
And of course i'm looking forward to the new games.
Still, i don't own a 4K TV, but a nice LG OLED one.

Why would I be excited to play the games I already have with an insignificant increase in IQ?

I don't have a 4K TV, nor will I until they're sub-500€. It's just really hard to care about it. It doesn't affect me.

Looking back, Its kinda amazing how much sony botched up the reveal for this console.

It's not that Sony botched up the reveal, it's that the reveal didn't live up to people's expectations. The speculation threads would shit out ideas like new game announcements (Red Dead 2), 60fps jumps for every game under the sun, etc etc. I did some speculating of my own too, but I'm not going to blame them for that lol, the specs were leaked months in advance and they delivered exactly that.

I have a 4K TV, PS4 Pro can't do native 4K and doesn't have a 4K UHD player. It's worthless at what it's trying to be.

I just want to know if it'll allow for larger storage, either by having room for 15mm tall drives and/or making USB storage possible.

If it can do that, I'm in.

Except it can. Do native 4k. There are native 4k games happening as well.

Anyway i have one pre preordered and it will be cool to get one to take advantage of my 4k tv as well as 1080p with better frame rates / visuals if the options there. But im not hyped. Its nothing like a brand new system.

I have one pre-ordered and I wouldn't even say I'm particularly hyped. But there are a fair number of enticing games only on PS4 (or at least not-on-PC in one notable case) coming out in the near future and I want to play the best possible versions of them. It just feels like a thing I need to have, rather than something I'm excited to buy.

The console will be out in less than a month. But I see no hype for the console in here or in other gaming medias. What happened? Also Xbox slim destroying the ps4 slim too I think sales wise could be due to pro coming out so soon. But I have never seen such less hype for a console that will be out in less than month. Whats happening to the hype train?

Most people I know pre-ordered already.

What do you mean by hype exactly ?

Posting on GAF ? There has been many Pro threads on GAF, there is nothing left to discuss.

I have pre-ordered the machine but I don't know if I'm that hyped.

Will The Last Guardian get a Pro-patch?

I really hope so. If you watch the gameplay and trailers, Trico may or may not have much feathers on his tail. I hope the footage with rich feathers on the tail was actually a PS4 Pro version

it's not really a hype-y product honestly. it's a small(ish) bump for 4k owners and an even smaller bump for 1080p owners.

which is not to take anything away from it, just that it's not a massively huge product launch.

Because im a gamer and a potential customer?

Are you saying Sony don't want Ps4 owners to update to PS4 pro?

I'm saying they don't care if you do it day 1 or day 100. Your OP in this thread was that Sony haven't done anything to market it to you, to make you want the console day 1.

Has it ever occurred to you they don't need to? First of all, long term money for Sony is in their exclusive library, which as an existing PS4 owner you're already buying. You can continue to buy those exclusives, and remain partially in Sony's ecosystem.

If the Pro doesn't appeal at launch, there's a whole Xmas line-up of games you can get impressions from. Come February, Horizon Zero Dawn launches, a game which I did or the will be a poster child for Pro in the new year.

There's all those opportunities for them to sell you the hardware. They don't need to do it now - you're an existing customer who isn't about to stop buying PS exclusives and who may we'll be inclined toward not wanting to be holding 'second class' hardware to play said exclusives on.

Not sure that is the case really. Especially if more people follow Tomb Raider's example of giving 1080p owners locked framerates and more graphical features or 1080p and unlocked framerates. Supersampling alone is worth it.

PS4 Pro is good, but it's already outdated. Also poor design, lack of good comunication from Sony and really no advantage other than "My games will look better".
