Nintendo showing Skyrim in this commercial is them symbolically announcing that they are actively trying to improve their third party relations. That is all.
Have Nintendo ever used a third-party game in an initial console reveal before?

You're still not getting my point. Yes, WB is a big publisher, but in terms of Nintendo consoles Bethesda means quite a lot more.
.
Yes, it's something minor. But it's something when they previously refused to do anything. That Nintendo managed to win them over period is significant. And you are missing my point, which is that until we see some evidence of some real meaningful support (and in case you haven't noticed, I don't consider a port of a 5 year old game that had probably already returned on Bethesda's initial investment times over) I don't think it's big at all. It doesn't neccesarily symbolize anything. The Switch could have the same kinds of issues as the Wii U and for all we know Skyrim could be the only Bethesda game it ever sees. A new IP, or even day and date ports, now that would be "symbolic". In the grand scheme, this is nothing.

So Bethesda threw them a 5 year old bone this time around and I'm supposed to take that as evidence that things are different when it comes to western 3rd parties? There is no difference between this and Batman Armored Edition.

I'm sure this sort of thing will do a ton to drive hardware sales
Aside from updates to online Rockstar is done with GTAV.Why show a 6 year old game? If they wanted something popular they should have shown something a bit more recent like GTA V or something.
Because framing it in that light and not in the light of it being something that Bethesda is currently marketing as a newer thing makes it easier for console warriors to be dismissive of it.I'm still curious why this is a 5 year old bone. The remastered version is coming out soon on the PS4 and Xbox One. I could understand if there was no recent Skyrim game, but that's not the case here.
The game itself is 5 years old. Yes, a remaster is coming out soon for PS4 and Xbone, but those consoles are also busting at the seams with 3rd party and indie support. Skyrim SE is coming our for them, but the console also has Fallout 4, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, Horizon, GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, etc for those who like open world games and RPGs.I'm still curious why this is a 5 year old bone. Aaah don't do that to me. Portable fallout would be amazing, even if it is f4100% sure it's Skyrim Remastered also don't see why people are already complaining. Id vouch that Fallout 4 will probably come with the complete edition of the game whenever that comes.

Skyrim is rubbish people should be more excited that fromsoftware is behind it
Porting a 5 year old game says to me "let's limit how many resources we are spending while we wait and see how it does" much more than it does "we are fully behind this platform and taking it seriously". Are you guys seriously forgetting the Wii U? "Unprecedented partnership"? Getting late ports of stuff like Mass Effect and Batman? Much like those companies, this feels much more like sticking your toe in the water to see how cold it is without risking too much.
We clearly don't know the extent of that support, but we barely know anything yet. This is a positive sign compared to their past consoles.
Portable Skyrim, yes i will rebuy.
Now imagine portable Dark souls 1,2,3.....
From software, you want my money?
I hope and want to see more games, but this isn't a new game. Latest version, yes, but I have played Skyrim already. It is not a new game.We don't know much about games coming out for the system. However, this is a new game from them because it's a version of their most recent game. Based on their most recent tweet there are more games in the pipeline as well.
This is a choice I don't understand. Especially to dedicate time to it.

I don't have any insider knowledge but it's within the realm of reality, especially since its not like FO4 is technically impressive or anything.Aaah don't do that to me. Portable fallout would be amazing, even if it is f4
This was my first reaction to seeing Skyrim being used to demo the console in the trailer, it's a 5 year old game and I'm sure whoever has wanted to play it has already done so by now....
It's an immediately recognizable game that also shows that they have the support of a publisher that previously refused to work with them. Why did they give Skyrim such a prime spot?
This is the version without mods most likely
I might still give it a buy since my PS4 will also be limited
Bloodbourne 2 exclusive.. Do it Nintendo
It's really not any different, just the names of the games and companies have changed. Nintendo has gone out of their way to "court" one or two publishers at a time in the past. That's never been their problem.
Sony owns that IP, so nein.

They do talk about studios in plural. Not expecting some overwhelming support but doubt Skyrim is the only game that'll come over either.
Yeah, seriously. As excited as I am about Switch, showing off Skyrim during this reveal is no more of an indication of breadth of western third party support than Mass Effect and Arkham City were for Wii U in 2011. Until Nintendo proves otherwise, there's no logic behind this stance.
The Remaster will be 6 months old by the time this thing launches, not sure how much you expect this to move the needle. Everyone who wanted to play Skyrim will have had multiple ways across multiple platforms to do so by the time Switch launches. The fact that people are lauding this tells you just how low the bar is.
On top of that, I'm not entirely convinced it's the Remaster. Feels like some people are overestimating the power potential of the Switch.
The ME3 comparison would only be apt if Bethesda were undercutting Skyrim Switch by releasing an Elder Scrolls Collection for the other consoles on the same day and at a lower price.Yup. This screams "Mass Effect 3 WiiU" to me
Does this mean the Dragonborn will be in Smash?
