I like this. I love that line from the trailer too. Hope they keep it.

It's my favorite line as well.

My father recently passed away [October 9th] and he left me his Virginia Military Institute class ring. It's really elaborate, heavy and it's from 1956. I feel honored to have it and I'll wear it every day. He was a King and he was honored as such.

I actually said that line when I first put it on. It made me feel proud to actually live that stoic moment.

Dang, sorry to hear. But it's great that he left something so important for you to carry. I have an attachment to objects and their meaning and I can only imagine how much more something would mean to me if it were left by a loved one.

It makes me even more excited for FFXV - the narrative is literally art imitating life for me. It gives me something to look forward to and that's a good thing with all the sadness I feel.

I think I will get a lot more out of it due to my recent tragedy. The plot touches upon my own life, in a way.

I'm really gun shy after being burned on both No Mans Sky and Mafia 3. First few hours of both were fantastic, after though... lets not talk about it.

Understandable. But people have played the first 15 hours of this game so we have a better idea of this. Then again, 15 hours is like 3 hours in RPG time.

15 hours is more than enough I think. I can't speak for Mafia 3 since I haven't played it, but with NMS you can easily see the repetition within the first hour. And even then if HelloGame/Sony let journalist play 15 hours of it weeks before the game's release then the blow back probably wouldn't have been as big. Also if I remember correctly people were seeing the issues with Mafia III (braindead AI) in the early previews as well but we just hoped it would be fixed by release.

But yea everyone should keep a dose of skepticism. Especially for a title with this kind of development.

Tabata dropping that ps4 pro info.

http://www.novacrystallis.com/2016/10/tabata-final-fantasy-xv-will-better-graphics-ps4-pro/

According to Tabata, it wasn’t long ago they came to know the PS4 Pro. As a result they really haven’t had time to take full advantage of the new hardware. At the moment they haven’t been able to show something satisfying.
Continuing, Tabata says they still have time to work on it and can assure fans a Pro patch will be available when Final Fantasy XV launches on November 29. He says the game will be optimized for the console and will be even more beautiful.

But what about the version we saw at TGS? That footage was from a demo made specifically for that event that focused only on graphical improvements. The game itself was not really improved, only the cosmetics. In the final Pro version, Tabata says there’s even more changes to come and clearly the PS4 Pro version of the game will be better visually.
So basically the team did what they could with the time they had, but the final version will be even better.

Edit: with this info my purchase for the pro is looking happy.

I can only see CG scenes for establishing scenes that don't feature the main party. Customizable outfits don't really work with pre-rendered CG.

According to this guy there are CG scenes in the game (19:20 to 19:35).

He mentions it in plural, and that they are visually as good as Kingsglaive, but all we know is about the intro one with
Regis saying goodbye
.

Is this guy for real? I haven't heard about this before.

Is it really that much of a surprise? Every FF since 7 have been packed with CG early in the game.

Ugh the player is so close to the water but doesn't even try to go in. Pretty much convinces me that swimming isn't in.

I also don't think there's swimming. Tabata why did you lie to me?!

There's not really much definitive info in there, is there? ;)

Maybe it will only be possible in certain setpieces or controlled situations (like FFX).

Does anybody know what defines the battle theme? Is it the area, the enemy type, is it just random?

Lies, not XI nor XIV (only opening CSs) :p

Nah, you are right, but as wmlk pointed out, it's tricky when you can change your party's clothes.
No problem

Ignis: "Hmm, looks like we've got a big day ahead of us and we'll be meeting with important people, we'd better change clothes."

Noctis: "Nah, I'm comfortable in these casual clothes I picked up the other day. Much more practical for bat––"

Ignis: "I said, 'let's change clothes.'"

There's at least CG in the Intro (before you have a chance to customize anything) Im guessing they wont feature the party for any CG after that except the ending. Or have some time cut to assume they just changed.

Well, it's mostly chasing/traveling with some vehicle scenes (Motorcycle chase, the landing, Balamb Garden taking flight, theater ship, running from the forest etc). I don't think it matters that much.
I guess they can do most of these in real-time nowadays though. Looking forward to what Visual Works puts out.

Maybe Kags can clarify, the "final Pro version" is referring to some version post launch as a patch, or does the "final version" upgrades refer to the Pro version on launch day?

Seems to be launch day. Obviously Pro patches don't need to be on disc.

Either way, he does say the one on launch will still look better. That's good enough for me. And it's no surprise to me if they didn't actually know of/work with the PS4 Pro version until not too long ago. It certainly didn't seem like they knew what it was to me, or maybe the game was in such a poor state they couldn't even bother to have time to work with it.

And I guess this kinda clarifies a question I had in another Pro thread about if Day 1 patches counted as Forward Compatibility patches. Well, still kinda wondering about the requirements for all this Pro stuff is.

Yea, just kinda confusing since in the other thread about the Pro version Tabata said they don't have time to take advantage of the hardware by launch and made it seem like all we were getting was 4K. Lol. So it seems they will be making further graphical improvements instead of the basic 4K render and HDR for launch day, but the team hasn't been able to show something "satisfying" yet. So there will be some graphical improvements beyond resolution on launch, and possibly even more graphical upgrades post launch when they have more time to spend on Pro?

That's what it sounds like to me. I really hope they do some comparison videos or something.

Do they really stand to gain anything by doing that? Won't they just be scaring away potential customers with the base PS4? There's already 40 million PS4s out there they have to cater to.

I think just a small video showcasing it is fine though, and not necessarily comparing it to the base version. I guess comparison videos are inevitable regardless though. Meh, I dunno.

As long as they are buying the game I don't see why they would care. What they have to gain would be people who would possibly buying the game on how it looks on their PS4 Pro. Not sure what they have to lose, or how they scare customers away.

Why dont they have the characters just fade out when they get too close to the camera. Don't they understand how off putting and disturbing seeing the inside of the characters head

I can certainly see some people not buying an "inferior" version. I mean, it's a no-brainer for me to pick up a PS4 Pro since I don't have a PS4 yet.
Someone with the base PS4 however, sees the game running at 900p at times, maybe unstable frame rate and might not be as interested when they've seen the superior version. This is all just speculation, and I might be reaching a bit.

There is still that one CG scene that features the main cast and Cor around the car. Since we saw it post-Nomura maybe it's still in the game.

In all honesty though it's kind of sad this game won't feature an epic CG intro.
