How can the games industry resist and push back against Trump & his fascism?

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
but there was no existing conflict with libya until the u.s. (with hillary's support) created one? same with syria. it's not like either gaddafi or assad declared war on the u.s, or anyone, for that matter...

Wait....what? Do their own people not count?

New game idea!

Classic styled JRPG game. An evil empire has taken over half the world, oppressed the people, and has enslaved a race of magical beings to fuel their horrifying war machines. The main characters lives in a peaceful remote village. One day, the army passes by to search for the princess who is leading the rebellion. Hearing rumour that she's hiding in the village, the commander orders the village to be burned to the ground. After the hero escapes, he finds himself in the resistance hideout, where the princess asks him to join. The hero then shrugs, and tells her "you're probably exaggerating. Let's wait and see how this goes."

Austin Walkers post on Waypoint was very very good. I want to act as he encouraged

Re: history- The only thing he's really materially lacking is his own blackshirts. Which... hold onto your butts, because there are folks jumping up to volunteer (and have, especially on election day).

I suppose the same way the game industry usually tackles serious issues... with Irony and comedy. Other than that I'm not really sure any publishers would be interested in trying to alienate people.

For the folks that want to discuss the other side of this, maybe someone should create a "How can the games industry support President-elect Trump?". It seems a lot of bans have happened, maybe having an appropriate place for each side to discuss the topic would help.
Mm. Yes.

This statement is mind boggling.
He was an alt. Let's move on.

KKK praising trump, is not him supporting them.

For the other issues, sure his cabinet members could be an issue, but why jump to conclusions this quickly?

People committing suicide, happened before he won.

Transgender people committed suicide right after Trump was declared the winner, and a national transgender hotline had a record number of calls on Wednesday.

That's not really comparable, neither one is even alive.

Just because a story has a fictitious setting or characters, doesn't mean it's not political or alluding to real world events or ideologies.

Grand Theft Auto also has political commentary. It's not something new or dangerous in games.

Didn't vote for Trump, he's an embarassment - but so is this thread and apparently this forum's moderation. It's a ridiculous topic and the only thing more cringey and insular is the fact that no one's allowed to say it.

You're able to disagree, but bitching that the thread exists is stupid and that's why most are being banned.

Thread whining is and has always been a bannable offense, the fact that so many are so eager to shut down any discussion on this matter speaks volumes.

All these people like you that didn't vote for Trump sure get defensive at people having a discussion.

Weird.

Echos my thoughts, loooong time lurker but this thread has me thinking I no longer need this site in my favorites, I would think it was satire if not for the mod approvals.

Oh well guess I'll find discussion elsewhere, goodbye.

Where's that Groundhog Day smashing fist onto clock GIF when you need it?

Fairly certain this is the biggest graveyard of a thrwad in GAF history, is it not Bish?

One thing is to definitely try to crack down on hateful things people say to minorities or women. To actively invite these people to make them feel more welcome.

That and maybe bigger game company's to work with indie devs that want to create games that promotes diversity.

Also to prevent places in games where toxic people can be in there own place and get away with acting in a way that is not okay for anybody.

Can a mod add Trump under my list of trash? Thank you

We're just getting over the era of shooting simulators where the majority of combatants had brown skin so let's not go back to that "Modern warfare" era again.

Most of the time I prefer to play video games to escape from this sort of shit...

You can play games or watch films or read books and ignore messages, but you cannot ignore the reality they're used. Indeed, often media is built upon a theme or message, that is very often political.

In fairness, as bad as some folks' opinion in here has been, they've been greeted with personal attacks and bans. A minority in here choose not to take the opinion personally and actually try to communicate. But I have to admit, it's been a small minority. In some cases, the level of aggressiveness may be hurting more than it's helping.

People talking about stuff is so hard to take.

PC and outrage culture indeed. Go to your stormfront safe space.

I have been struggling with personal darkness since the election. Is it selfish to not want Trump threads on gaming side? I just want one place where I can escape him. :(

I would like to know how many of the people getting banned are alt burner accounts.

Also, how many of the banned people that didn't vote Trump actually voted for Trump. Or Gary Johnson.

trump's facism? how about the "protesters" who are beating people, destroying property and generally rioting. very liberal of them to not accept the peoples democratically chosen candidate.

Question: did videogames get any mileage from Bush-ism? (edit: in a critical sort of way)

That era was rife with misguided hawkishness which was supposedly prime anti-establishment videogame material but, other than gems like Spec Ops, I mostly remembered tame PMC-bashing.

That's totally fine, but it's really not difficult to avoid such threads.

If anything, the USA's military adventurism of the last 15 years has led to Call of Duty being the biggest franchise around right now.

I'd rather this thread not get closed from ban gloats.. there are still good discussions to be had.

I think now is probably a good time for the industry to reassess things like its marketing and box art policies. Clearly there is an audience that is longing to be represented. I know it's getting better recently, but I think representation is a good way to get some easy press while being socially responsible.

If you think Lime is being hyperbolic and that's part of your reply where you consider and discuss the question, then that is not something we would ban for. If your reply is "fuck off I don't care about this thread you cunt", you're going to get banned, because that's something we always ban for, like duh?

I haven't seen any reply that's "fuck off I don't care about this thread you cunt", have you?

Ah. The property concern.

Finally property has a hero.

If you have issues with depression, there's the Mental Health OT.

Otherwise, i recommend staying away from internet mostly, because Trump and his policies is and will be a talking point for the next four years.

You could always just play games instead of talking about them. Or stick to game OTs, you don't need to read every thread on the front page.

So I'm only aware of the examples in the OP, but have anyone else in games industry & culture said or written anything as a reaction or a response to the results of the election?
