EA Will Bring “One of their Bigger Games” To Nintendo Switch

FIFA at launch with a good marketing campaign could do well.

Guy plays FIFA at home online.
Goes into train and plays a bit of master league on the Switch.
Guy then on his lunch break at work pulls out his Switch. While another Co worker pulls out his Switch. Similar to the NBA video a bunch of Co workers play 4 player FIFA between 2 Switch devices.

FIFA is really huge I think if the system is £200 like the rumours suggest and some shops do some exclusive FIFA Bundles this has a chance to take off. Just as long as the game is similar to the full console versions from PS4.

Fifa, it would be really cool to have portable Fifa if its the same version as PS4/XB1, and it could be a really strong point in Europe too.

Mass Effect seems to be the perfect title to test the waters. I think the official date is "Spring 2017" but rumors suggest "March 21st" which is 4 days after the rumored Switch release date. That's about as good as it gets for assessing future projects.

Let's be real Mass Effect would run like shit on Switch. It's going to be Fifa.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
If I'm a third party I say okay but that means we are not releasing anything.

EA pulled this crap last time and then blamed Nintendo for poor sales. Nobody was buying 3 -month old ports of Madden on a graphically inferior system.

They've at least claimed in the past that once they get Frostbite up and running on a platform, it's relatively easy for them to port other titles over.

FIFA/Madden, Plants v.s. Zombies, and Star Wars seem like the obvious places to start. Probably no Madden until that's on Frostbite as well.

I would also suspect that unless the launch is a disaster, they won't abandon the platform in 2017 and we'll at least get some fall games.

They won't make a decision on Battlefront 2 until they see how well Switch sells and how well 3rd party games sell on Switch. It's fantasy to think otherwise. If they work on a game right now (as the quotes suggest) it's something already released or releasing soon.

I don't entirely agree with you but my thinking is based on:
1. Games like Madden and Fifa are givens.
2. They've had enough time to make Battlefront 2 happen on the Switch. (which definitely is questionable)
3. They know that (with their sports games excluded) releasing games that are close to 6 months old for the Switch won't do shit for them. It didn't work on the WiiU and it won't work here.
4. Taking all of the above into account then the only two games that make any kind of sense are Battlefront 2 and Mass Effect and its definitely not Mass Effect.

Anyways, that's my train of thought.

Maybe I'm kind of shallow, but the one thing that makes me not want to buy multiplatform games on Nintendo consoles is the lack of an achievement system. If they just came up with some kind of system feature to show off game achievements, whether it's points, trophies, stickers, whatever, I'd at least consider buying a multiplatform game on it.

Though, portable play is a rather nice advantage.

What are you talking about? EA didn't blame anybody.
It was just not worth it for them to release games on Wii U anymore.

And Fifa and NFS on Wii U are really great games, too bad that Wii U owners didn't buy them despite the long droughts that Nintendo bundled with the system.

Mass Effect also runs on Frostbite and might be launching just 4 days after the Switch, I know it isn't likely but I think that's such good timing when you're looking at whether to support the system or not.

Hopefully FIFA. It's my default pick up and play game and FIFA 13 got a ridiculous amount of playtime on my Wii U. Good thing about the series is you only need one as they're updatable and almost all the same in gameplay terms.

This assumes Disney literally do not give a fuck what happens to their IP and are fine with whatever EA tells them,

Fifa: Legacy edition

Not targeting you in special, but I've seen this stupid joke in this thread too many times. To have a legacy edition you need to have at least one new FIFA on that system.

And Wii U didn't get any legacy edition unfortunately.

Did we get Battlefront 1 on Wii U? No? There's you're answer about Disney. If Switch doesn't provide the market needed for it, Disney can't do shit.

Can you blame them for not buying them though? I doubt many people bought a Wii U and didn't already own a 360, PS3, or PC. Why buy NFSMW for $60 on Wii U when you could buy it for half the price elsewhere? If someone didn't buy it elsewhere already, what would persuade them to buy it now? The additional Wii U features?

I feel like it is Star Wars Battlefront 2. I don't think EA would talk about Fifa when they say "the biggest game we're involved with", it seems to be directed at some more "personnal" projects than the yearly Fifa.

Yes, I can. NFS was practically a remaster. Just have a look how well remasters are selling on the other consoles.

I think they mean it would be on an older engine since Switch is probably weak. I could be wrong.

I'd love a portable Mass Effect, but it'll most likely be FIFA, which is absolutely the right call. Way wider appeal and better chance of financial success.

Honest question for those with knowledge of system power: would switch even be able to run Andromeda based on the rumored specs (are they finalized specs?)?

Frostbite on a Nintendo platform is out of the question and I'm not talking about tech

Then about what are you talking?

...An older version of the game(360\PS3) with updated rosters.

There is a FIFA 17 on PS360. If it's a port of that is still not a Legacy edition. It's stupid to call a Legacy edition the first FIFA on a new system. But I doubt they will invest in porting the old engine.

I'm not that tech savvy but if it's a big EA title it probably uses Frostbite which is the engine powering Andromeda. The specs on the Switch don't need to match up with Xbox One and PS4 for it to run ports especially if it's running everything at 720p (might not be). I don't think its impossible.

I think it would be a safe bet to expect a Star Wars game. Nintendo and Star Wars share a long and successful history together.

We've barely seen anything of Mass Effect Andromeda running on a normal PS4 or Xbox One. So it's hard to point out if it's possible.
