Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

Got the $200 refund email from Samsung today. $1140 shipped on this TV is just... stupid. It arrives Wednesday!

How long did it take to get a response? I called Monday night, and they told me to email all the info, which I did. Now it's Wednesday night, and I haven't heard back at all.

My panel says EA01 on my 60". There is some light bleed across the bottom, but not sure if it bothers me enough to go through all the hassle with no guarantee of improvement.

Independence Day Resurgence 4k HDR looks really good. I actually enjoyed the movie for the most part. Parts of it pretty cheesy and at times awkward, occasional terrible acting, but otherwise enjoyable as just a blockbuster popcorn flick.

What? In this thread alone we were getting 55" KS8000 or 65" KS8000 for $729 or $1079 etc. There was a deal on the 55" LG B6 for under $1500ish.

Under $2000 is still more than plenty to enjoy 4K and HDR. Under 48" I would recommend the X800D by Sony, over 49" I would recommend the KS8000 as the best tvs with a combination of quality and price and gaming capability.

Thanks!

That LG B6 (55") looks really nice. I would love to go OLED. Sony is still using LCD, right?

I have a somewhat irrational hatred of Samsung, so I won't buy their products.

Any idea if that LG B6 deal is still around? I see it for $2k on Amazon, which doesn't seem terrible.

Oh and for those ordering the 60"...it says 7-10 days to ship on their web site but I placed the order yesterday and just got an email saying it shipped. So the info on the site isn't accurate.

Enjoy AGS if you have the misfortune of having them as your shipper. Be sure to call them and give them your phone number because they wont have it from Samsung. Also if you paid for white glove delivery make sure they have record of that. Easily the worst delivery company I've worked with.

Try Cleveland AV for the LG OLEDS.

Man... this stuff is so hard to navigate.

Should I just give up on looking for a 4K TV with good HDR and low enough input lag to enjoy playing games using a PS4 Pro this year if my budget is sub-$2,000?

If so, is there any hope that a good TV in this price range will appear early next year?

$2000 gets you a lot of TV. What Size are you looking for?

Thanks!

Well then... That disqualifies you from the incredible deals around the KS8000.

Stuck between 55KU6300F(599.99 BF w/ $150 back) or 49X800D (799). Is the better HDR worth the extra $200?

Edit: Nevermind, I looked up the 50" on accident. The 6290 is the same TV without a smart remote or bluetooth but cheaper. So that's something to consider as well. IMO unless you can get in on the Samsung Deal from someone, it's probably not worth the difference and loss of size.

Hmm, how did you find it for that price. The Newegg site is listing 1499 for me.

It was on sale over the weekend. I purchased it but something was wrong with the credit card info so I had to redo it. Because of that they held the price for 3 business days. So Technically I bought it on Saturday but it officially went through today. Sorry for the confusion on that.

The KS8000 and 9000 use the same panels. The only difference is in the set design.

8000 isn't available in 75" unfortunately.

I do believe they have differences in motion processing and backlight control, but yeah it looks like they are both very similar. Certainly questionable if it's worth the ~$300 extra.

$1800 for the 65" 9000, then jumps to $5000 for the 75" :/

That's exactly how my 60" is...minor light bleed across the bottom, mostly on the left side. There's no guarantee you'll get a better panel if you return it. If yours doesn't have any dead pixels then I would keep it.

Awesome! Yep, it's AGS. Tracking on their website is useless. Guess I'll call them in the morning.

Has anyone managed to get a KS8000 through the samsung deal if you live in Canada ?
You'd have to pay a boatload for shipping and or mail forwarding + tax+border fees+conversion right ? Has anyone got a KS8000 in Canada from this deal ? What did it end up costing and which services did you use to make the shipping etc happen ?

I did and I live in Edmonton Alberta.

All in it cost me right around $2050 Canadian to bring it up here.

Used reship.com as my forwarding address.

Hope this helps.

Errg Amazon Prime didn't deliver my KS8000 today like they were suppose to. Their shipping has been real spotty lately.

You are not alone, something has been going on with amazon and their shipping partners lately. Still haven't got my delivery yet and i ordered it Tuesday. Complain and get your prime extended :)

Yeah for a few unrelated purchases lately, they've missed the promised delivery date and/or had incorrect shipping/delivery info on the site.

Wonder what's going on with that?

Was gonna order the ks8000 55inch today, but all of the sudden all best buys within 250 miles around me dont have it. Glitch in the system maybe.

Don't know but going through Amazon's discussion forums people are either not getting their packages, or just receiving them late. Something is really going on if it happening in different places with different carriers.

Wow....imagine how terrible this could turn out the closer it gets to the holidays.

Was thinking of getting LG Electronics 43UH6030 43-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2016 Model) from Newegg since it's an early "Black Friday" deal ($299.99).

I'm also getting a PS4 Pro on Monday. You reckon this TV will be good enough, or is it worth just saving another $500 and get a better one?

Guys im trying to get myself to pull the trigger on the ks8000. My only problem is that i'd be going from a 60in vizio to a 55in. Please someone give me some advise. Cant afford anything bigger in the ks8000 model.

I believe that's a variation of the 6100, which is a rgbw panel.

Strangely, the uh5500 series is an rgb panel and reviews are much better. The uh5500 can also be had for very cheap. It just has pretty bad input lag and doesn't get very bright, and isn't 90% of dci-p3.

It would work decently with a ps4 I would think though as long as you aren't really sensitive to input lag. Best cheaper 4k sets are hisense h8c, Samsung 6300, and Sony x800d. Sony is most expensive but has the widest color gamut support.

Im really conflicted about buying a 4k hdr tv. Im not quite sure if enough 4k games are coming out in the coming years (given the current console hardware) and by the time 4k games are a common thing the tvs will be way better for a more affordable price (at least that is my fear and my current dilema).

Im really curious about hdr (and given my experience with hdr photography also really excited about hdr) but i have yet to actually see a hdr game in action. I have my eye on the sony 4k hdr tv (around 900 euros) and im in this weird place where my concerns hold me back from buying my way into 4k tvs)

Anyone with the same concerns? Am i overthinking it? What is your experience?

If you are a console gamer only (no pc) I'd say the value of a 4k tv takes somewhat of a hit. Not many ps4 pro games wi be native 4k. Scorpio will have more.

I'd actually say the main value of a 4k hdr tv is in the blurays and 4k streaming video content, not gaming. At least for the time being until scorpio hits, if you aren't going to hook up a gaming pc.

Ps4 pro will provide I nice boost to iq vs a ps4 but it isn't going to melt your brain.

Witcher 3 and a few other games close to maxed at 4k on a pc is a different story.

There's a thread full of 4K HDR television owners here who appear to be largely happy with their experience to counter your opinion (an opinion which just happens to promote Microsoft's offerings in three different ways.) I'm one of them.

Resolution is the least of what 4K HDR has going for it. Wide color gamut and high dynamic range are significantly more important and brain-melting in practice, though there's a lot to be said for the combination of all three improvements.

I will probably end up picking up a ps4 pro, but most of the reviews I have read seem to suggest it isn't a huge upgrade over the base ps4 experience.

I'm just expressing my own personal opinion that for me getting a 4k set has more to do with pc gaming and blurays than it does with ps4 pro or scorpio. I totally get that people are buying a ps4 pro and 4k set in tandem, without any plans of pc gaming or 4k bluray, but I'm just saying you will get more value out of a 4k set the more ways you have to use it.

The person I replied to had a concern about the number of 4k console games coming out, and I think that is a valid concern. Even Scorpio I doubt will see widespread 4k support. You can disagree that's a valid concern, but I won't agree with you. Based on their post there are valid points to waiting a year or 2 until picking up a 4k hdr set. That's all. I'm sure they would enjoy it though if they picked up an hdr set! So maybe they are over thinking it lol.

How are you guys feeling about 1080p content on 4k?

I have the pro being delivered today and a KS8000 on the way. I'm coming from a 65" Panny plasma, so I'm a little concerned about how lower content looks. I cringe at thinking about how a DVD looks on my Panny vs a Blu-ray.... and no clue how games at 1080 would look being upscaled to 4k.

1080p blurays and native 1080p videogames look great. Games that start to drop into 720p territory don't look quite as good, but still not bad.

Quantum break for example with its weird resolution stuff happening doesn't look very good on both of the 4k sets I've had.

4K sets generally do a good job with broadcast 720p and 1080 content as well.

Ratchet and clank, infamous, and tlou all look amazing 1080p.

Just don't sssume that all 4K sets will handle sources like DIRECTV and cable well. The Vizio P series I had was awful. Our Sony and my new LG OLED do it significantly better.

Yeah I've heard the vizios are bad with upscaling.

My Panasonic 4k set and my hisense h8c both do a great job with broadcast content. Had direct tv on the Panasonic and comcast cable now on the hisense.

It's a shame too, because the P series is otherwise brilliant. It would have been a superb choice for biding some time while things develop, but still having the new bells and whistles with little investment.

Hooked up my 65 inch ks8000 yesterday and played Titanfall 2 on my launch xbox one. Thing shat all over my old 1080p tv. I couldnt believe how good the image was and how everything just looked better. Honestly amazed at how much better my games look on the newer tv and this is with the old xbox one. Take your time. When you decide to make the jump it will be worth it.

Man, the remote for the B6 is awful. is there even a button to see what resolution/mode your TV is in during broadcast or streaming (i.e. display button on any remote ever) and there seems to be no way to change input without bring up the menu bar.
