Nintendo Switch running Breath of The Wild on Jimmy Fallon

God, why are those fucking Joy-Cons grey when the tablet is sexy black? It's like the Joy-Cons and the tablet, dock and Pro Controller were designed by two different teams. The Switch ALMOST looks like the sexiest console ever.

At a guess, I think they want to highlight their removability.

EDIT: Also this:

Contrast makes for a more interesting design with some differentiation. You know you're looking at the switch when you see the joycons. There are lots of black rectangles out there.

Year from now, if they start selling black Joy-Cons, would you consider buying?

Is the quality good enough to count pixels and get a grip on the resolution?

Edit: Not a single dropped frame in that explosion, contrary to Wii U E3 demo footage, bodes well!

Edit #2: When Reggie lifted it out I fucking geeked out for real. I think showing this on Fallon was..incredibly smart yo

not to be combative, Why does that mean that it would have to be at least 3.0? And just to be clear we are talking about how it docks to the base right?

We are, yes.

The dock is acting like a USB hub: you plug it into a USB port (in this case a Type-C of at least USB 3.0 on the bottom of the Switch) and you get more ports out the other end. You can't go UP versions; if you are using a USB 2.0 port, that is the maximum potential of any ports further "downstream".

That isn't to say this is a guaranteed 3.0+ port, though. We still don't know if there are or what kind of USB ports on the dock. My official guess is 2.0x2 and 3.0x1 on the dock.

It hink this is the best we're gonna see of the bottom of the Switch:

Looks like a USB-A or -C port in the middle with two screws or holes, one on each side. Not much to go for, actually.
I'm still missing an SD or microSD port, though. Really haven't seen any possible location for one of that.
It could of course be an internal microSD port under the lid, like the new3DS has.

Here's another view, looks a hell of a lot like a USB-C port.

If it's transferring video, it has to be 3.1. USB 3.0 didn't support HDCP.

I really feel like this is the case for some people lol

I think some games really benefit from having huge crowds of people. I really AC Unity for throwing huge densities of people into Paris, that game sold the bustle of a city more than most games could ever hope for.

But this is a game that's all about Nature in both mechanics and setting. The quiet elements that focus on ambient sound design are quite pleasant. And if I wanted to run around faster, I'd just Shield slide into paraglider everywhere anyway with the occasional jumps as needed, which is good locomotion design as opposed to running around everywhere which is discouraged by the Stamina system.

I think the variety of activities and average engagement level of each activity is more than enough to be satisfying and the fact that the player doesn't really notice these things is quite fantastic. The first hour or so of the game demonstrates considerable variety, far more than most introduction sequences in games that I've seen.

This will sound silly...but oh god, it strangely makes me feel really happy the good reception the switch is getting

Maybe because i love nintendo, maybe because i love video games in general, but it feels good

Ignoring Reggie's huge ass thumb print on the top, the screen of the Switch seems to have a slightly matte finish. It could just be the camera making bright lights all grizzly, though.

A matte screen would be super sweet for reducing reflections. If done wrong it could make the screen look all blurry though. Knowing Nintendo they would want to avoid that.

Here's another view, looks a hell of a lot like a USB-C port.

Yup, that's 10000% a USB-C port, thanks for clearing that up.

It's behind the kickstand.

Well duh, didn't think about that. Thanks. :)

Nintendo really upped their hardware presentation from that butt-ugly Wii U GamePad.

And that Pro Controller should confirm analog triggers, because that's pretty much just straight up XB1 triggers.

To actually make it not look like the Wii U Gamepad.
Nintendo should (and hopefully wants to) avoid that at all costs, thinking back at the disaster that was the Wii U unveiling.

Also I think it makes it stand out more. Looks really good, in my honest opinion.
I believe the microSD slot is under the stand.

There are enough all-black products for sure, it's been done endlessly. Wish they supported faceplates; yellow JoyCons + black Switch would be so ace.

That was a good showing. I can already tell mind share for the Switch is a jillion times higher than Wii U could have ever hoped for. Jimmy looking like a legit, passionate fan doesn't hurt none either.

If Nintendo put this thing out, and it would only support Virtual Console, it would still be insane. If the rumors about robust VC are true, and switching (yes) works this smoothly for AAA games, it will be totality. If 3rd parties and major releases such as RDR2 follow, Nintendo will dominate the world.

RDR2 will never be on Switch.

But look at the rumors about re-releases

Skyrim and Dark Souls 1 - 3 have been talked about a lot

Those two games have massive fans bases, and will easily push some people over the edge to buy one

I mean it's a youtube clip of the game being played on a projector but still lmao. I'm curious. It didn't look bad at all blown up to that size though

How can anyone even tell, anymore?

From what I've seen he's always excited for shit but this is the first time I've seen him be a rambling incoherent mess. If that's not actual excitement he's a fantastic actor

It's Nintendo, they'll sell limited edition Switches with special colors and will definitely bring out Joycons with different colours. I was disappointed the sexy Lime Green wiimote never surfaced outside of promo footage :( I pray they don't repeat that (in my eyes) mistake.

Man I am so fucking pumped for this and the Switch.

Nintendo coming back to relevancy again, please don't disappoint me Nintendo.

I'd be shocked if people weren't able to buy joycon colors of their choice. Accessories are profitable and the demand to personalize is always there.

Well of course not.

I like that Zelda runs well but i'm not impressed by the graphics, was hoping for more of a wow factor from the Switch.

But it's a ways a way and the screen they showed it on wasn't the best.

It's a Wii U game mostly, there is probably going to be IQ improvement and a locked 30fps. Shouldn't expect much more...still looking forward to the eventual direct-feed footage though.

The footage on the Switch itself looks darker than the TV mode when I saw it. The weather changed while Reggie was talking and you can notice it right before he switches

and then when Fallon takes control in mobile mode and runs up the hill the vegetation is as lush as it's ever been on any version.

That's what i'm talking about. There's plenty of foliage whenever Jimmy makes it up that hill. But it's bare whenever Reggie is standing across from it

I watched it again and you can see a tiny bit of foliage popin whenever Reggie jumps down

So, we still don't get to see how close you need to be before it comes into full view.

The screen looks gross and so did the footage, but it's all off-screen. At least the framerate looked stable both in portable and docked mode. Here's hoping for good battery life

Tbh I think it's probably a quick port to the Switch with a locked 30 FPS rather than substantial graphical improvements, but whatever, I'm fine with that and it was to be expected.

Customization is a big role with the new nintendo 3ds (kisekae plates), nintendo 3ds had it with cases, wii u too, i think it's really possible for new joy con designs to show in the market

Off screen video under a well lit television studio is going to look washed out. No way around it.

The rumor was that it's behind/underneath where the kickstand pulls out.

will the switch definitely use HDCP? Wii U did not as I recall.

Wiimote pack in games were common. It would be nice to see collector editions of games come with custom joycons. Perhaps some games will use alternate button schemes.

Did people think there wouldn't be a reduction in graphics going to the portable???? We discussed there would be for weeks so why is everyone shocked?

I'm seeing a ton of praise for the performance but didn't these kind of areas run perfectly fine in the BotW Wii U E3 demonstrations?

The recent gameplay that was struggling was set on a high-foliage area, not these kinds of plains, so I see nothing suggesting the Switch version is running better.

Edit:
Actually I guess people are comparing it to the Switch reveal trailer gameplay.
