Nintendo Switch running Breath of The Wild on Jimmy Fallon

Huh? WW sill looks as good as many PS4 games.

I was referring to the post I quoted, not self referencing my own post :p

WW has certainly aged very well. Whether it's art style is is more to your taste than BotW is a matter of taste I guess.

To me BoTW is the perfect evolution of that art style.

Nintendo is really be hitting it out of the park with this early marketing. Mentioning the January event was a great move and people seen to be legitimately excited. Anyone thinking this will be a Wii U-type bomba is way too cynical for their own good.

As for the footage, not much to go on but it's jusy nice to see the Switch in a "real" environment. Really hoping that Zelda is at least a locked 30fps, anything else after that is just extra.

Now I need to get myself into situations where I can use this.

The framerate is fucking gross, by the way.

Is it me or does it look more slim/sleek than the initial reveal ?

Don't get me wrong, I fully understand it will look better than that. But live feed footage isn't going to magic up extra geometry.

Does that lcd panel look bad to anyone else? The colors look washed out.

Now you're going from an excess to another. Tech=/=art. If you're saying that graphically WW looks fantastic because of art, fine, because it does. But about tech? It was fantastic for its gen, but you can't compare it to what modern games do, and that includes Breath of the Wild.

Just for fun, this is a (THE) ps2 open world

So let's leave hyperbole and shitposting to gamefaqs and youtube.

Don't get me wrong, I fully understand it will look better than that. But live feed footage isn't going to magic up extra geometry.

How about different areas though. Is there the same amount of geometry here?

Hmm, the screen didn't look too hot. Even considering it's off-screen footage, the backlight looks quite cheap, as in "chinese tablet" cheap. Hope it's just a prototype screen.

But who am I kidding, I will buy it regardless.
Not trying to say it's going to look amazing, but most screens would look bad under direct light. I'll keep my judgement until reviews come out and i'll express my opinion about it when i have it in my hands, but it would certainly be a bad move from Nintendo if they didn't go at least with IPS considering they're already using it on the new 3ds. AMVA+ would be better because of contrast, but viewing angles would be bad and this is a console where you can play with a friends on the same portable screen so maybe it wouldn't be ideal. OLED would be perfect but it's too expensive and Nintendo will want to keep the price down. I think IPS would be more than fine, i just hope they won't go back to TN.

EDIT: rewatching it again, viewing angles don't seem to look different when they show it from the front and slightly from the side (it looks fucked in both circumstances because there's direct light over it), so maybe it is IPS?

oh god, i just checked and there's no major Mario game at the Switch's launch.. that can't be good. Zelda is a great series and all but i don't think it has the same mainstream appeal as Mario.

So far there are no games at launch at all.

Because we have no official information regarding launch at all.

Mmmmm, a beer version.

Yeah, but you know 12 months later they are going to be releasing a light beer version.

What's the best way to guarantee one of these for launch? I camped out for the Wii but I'm too old for that now. My bitter old bones can't take it.

It's not so much the art style as the developers recognizing the hardware they were working with and designing a game to work within the confines of that. IMO Wii U is not capable of running a large open world game and looking great - i.e. the dev intentions are exceeding what the hardware can do without visual sacrifice. Most open world games look terrible for this reason; they're just not ready to exist. Not the end of the world since there's more to games than visuals, but that does happen to be the current topic.

What is this from?

Easy Allies PSX coverage. I think that moment is when Yakuza localization was announced.

Ugh, I keep trying to get excited for the Switch but practically everything about it seems like a step back from what the Wii U and 3DS offered.

Like what? It's a next generation handheld from the 3DS's perspective; and it appears to be a decent bump from Wii U hardware.

Hopefully I'm not just getting caught in the hype, but Nintendo so far is knocking it out of the park. This is the most excited I've been for any console release( home or handheld) since the Ps3( coming off the Ps2) or the Wii after watching Wii sports Tennis being demoed. Frankly, I can easily see this becoming my defacto game system if the support is there, just because of how it fits into my life schedule. Nowadays, I have to actually set aside time to get a decent gaming session in. But a system I can take anywhere, play in long or short spurts, which can seamlessly 'switch' between a portable and home console? Honestly, I'm sold. Day fucking zero.

Ninetndo has been dropping hte ball for a long time now, but the switch teaser and this were 2 home runs. THey managed to get everyone excited, even if jimmy always goes overboard with this kind of stuff, and reggie even said it 'THis is the nintendo switch" referring to the tablet.

They really want to make sure there is no confusion this time, and I think they are succeding it.

Didnt think I would say this any time soon, but... good job nintendo!

Preorder on Amazon and Best Buy as soon as preorders open.

I'm sold, I mean I was anyway, this console, whatever it is, 100% fits my lifestyle. I can't sit in front of a TV anymore for 6+ hours like I did when I was a kid. So the fact I can play anything on the switch and dock in when I do have TV time is incredible to me.

If Zelda is a launch game, it's a day 1 purchase for me. I had reservations about the Switch, but the hype is too real. Here's hoping for a $250-299 price tag.

Is there a date set for that? Or likely the day of the Jan. PR?

Nah I meant that it's nice seeing it outside of the heavily edited reveal trailer, if you see what I mean.

Is it me or does it look more slim/sleek than the initial reveal ?

Maybe, we never really got many good shots for determining width in the reveal trailer. I'm gonna place my bets on nothing having changed, the reveal came way too late for there to be a Wii U-like hardware revision before launch.

What`s up with the huge black bars all around the screen? That is part of the screen right?

I'm hyped at the possibility of playing Skyrim or Zelda at work, but having the game look like a windowed mode sure ruins the hype.

Nintendo has knocked it out of the park with the switch. People that think this thing is going to flop are going to be eating a lot of crow!

We can safely assume official (as in, no placeholder prices) pre-orders will open then. It's only two months before launch and is 'the' big blow out for news, any other time wouldn't make sense.

I thought to myself, 'not even people in NeoGAF could trash this cool presentation'. I was wrong, of course.

Framerate and graphics looked beautiful - all concerns gone.

The screen on the other hand appeared washed out and with bad viewing angles.

They've obviously got to cut down the cost somewhere, but I hope that's better than it seemed there.

It's hard to believe they did what they did with the WiiU back in the day, seeing how they're doing things with the Switch.

It's all the little things.

The stereoscopic display on the 3DS was mindblowing at launch and still something I look forward to seeing every time I play my 3DS even five years later. Games that don't appear in 3D automatically feel like they're missing something on the hardware.

The lack of a resistive touch screen means that drawing applications like Art Academy, Swapdoodle, and even Miiverse may be all but dead. Drawing on a capacitive touch screen is akin to finger painting.

The second screen on both the Wii U and 3DS (and by extension the DS) will be sorely missed. Unfortunately the Wii U's lack of success meant that not a whole lot of developers but any serious time into it, but having a second display in your hands (or bottom screen in the case of the DS/3DS) opening a lot more design choices that a single screen restricted you on. I can't imagine going back to a screen-filling inventory whenever the Switch Animal Crossing launches after how well it worked with Wild World and New Leaf, for instance.

There's other things like the lack of asychronus multiplayer but I'll stop there. The Switch just seems so boring by comparison to Nintendo's previous products, like they're just backpedaling to the same old boring console design.

Agreed. I imagine that preorders will go live as soon as the initial press conference is over.

The most interesting part for me is that Super Mario Run looks to be a decent mobile game.

Oh and the fact that the Switch looks good and from the rumour and what other developers are saying about it perhaps the switch will have a healthy sale.

God Fallon is annoying. I couldn't even make it thru that whole thing.

"I'm geeking out!!!! Oh my god!!! Oh I'm cumming!"

Sooo like your average gaf member then?

I guess you'd be ecstatic too if you had the chance to meet your childhood heroes and be one of the first gamers to put your hands on the "next big thing", and getting paid a shit-ton while at that.
