some guy leaked FFXV's story six months ago | up: newer 4chan stuff as of Dec 9th

One is the result of an intentional storytelling methodology. The other is the unintended consequences of a rushed, stitched-together game with missing scenes. You can't compare them.

They still end up doing the same thing dude.

but "MUH DARK SOULS" can't use similar story telling methods then this other game I don't like.

Funny how no one is actually putting down actual differences between the story telling, they are just saying i'm wrong.

Can someone give an example of the unique interactions in the open world? I've played and explored a fair bit but I haven't encountered anything like that.

Why is everyone taking these "leaks" as real? Most of the information given by this leaker doesn't makes sense like when he references the Shiva "statue" when that is supposed to be her corpse. You would think someone that developed a level around her corpse would know she was supposed to be dead not just a statue.

I like how SE's decision regarding a female character in light of controversial female character handling was to just cut it out to make the female character paper thin and just in the plot to die YET they keep the needlessly sexy and skimpy car mechanic that even does the sexy carwash stuff to your car when you ask her to fill up the tank.

Like, Jesus, they really don't get it do they? And then they even teased a new Play Arts Kai of Cindy focussing on her chest! Christ...

If I understood that right, they wanted to keep Cindy's outfit because her design for the World of Ruin part would make the players ashamed of their words and deeds.

Other party details:

From what I was told, the party members in the final game are the same that were suppose to joined in the previous project with the exception of the black dog.

Cor was supposed to join the party again after Altissia but since that area got cut, it didn't make sense to feature him there.

From 3 games to 1:

He was the director when I already joined the team. I was told that the former director rewrote the story into a larger story and divided it in chapters, but then the new team condensed it into one again.

More confirmation that Tabata next game isn't related to FF

If you mean a sequel, there's no intention on making one by the people who wrote the game and the team's next game is not related to final fantasy

Versus Original combat ideas:

First the game borrowed the systems from those games but then it evolved into something similar. There was a wheel and you could choose what weapon do you wanted to use or select more than one weapon at the time.

Why do you insist that just because one series does something, another series doing the same thing is okay?

I think it did, and I didn't read shit there either. It wasn't good, but I was able to follow it.

At least at the time, not sure how much I can remember now. And the sequel was awful, even though I think XIII is a great game.

Still didn't play Lightning Returns, but I plan to, heard great things about its combat system.
Which part of , we'll fight our fate by doing exactly what the bad guy fated us to do" makes sense

They actually are not similar in narrative design at all, like even remotely. Souls games are about piecing together the history of the world, it makes sense that most of the storytelling is done through forensics, as it were. You're always a latecomer in the world of Dark Souls, arriving after the big events that shaped the world. Final Fantasy XV just has gaps because they didn't have enough time to fill it in.

The game turned out great, which is amazing considering the circumstances (assuming these leaks are true).

It's a bummer to hear they cut Luna scenes because they feared a backlash, though. I don't see how someone crying or being abused makes them "weak." Heck, there's an entire religion around a guy who never fought back and was nailed to a cross and suffered tremendously, and said guy is considered one of the strongest figures in history.

If the story they wanted to tell involved Luna being weak, hurt, or dedicating herself to help someone else (who happened to be a man) because it's what needed to be done, then tell that story. Don't worry about people whining.

Same thing happens in FFXV, you walk out into a brand new location the main characters had never been. Where there is a ton of mystical shit going down and your character has no idea how things ended up in the state they are in currently.

So again, I ask, how is it different?

The main difference is that FFXV sort of falls into this storytelling style by accident, not because they purposefully wrote it that way. There's a ton more dialogue in FFXV than any of the Souls (or King's Field, etc etc) games, and it tries to present a forward-facing story all the time. Clues about the meat of the story in Souls is linked to supplemental bits of writing hidden around the world in relevant (usually, anyway) places. There's a logic to it, when it's at its best at least.

FFXV is very up front about its story beats and dedicates a lot of time to direct exposition, it's just not very good exposition. There is supplemental writing which is sort of like Souls, I guess, but the supplemental writing in FFXV is 1. in a movie not included with the game and 2. in radio shows (I actually really liked these, but I wish they played in the car instead of forcing you to stand still in restaurants) and books that are often in places completely irrelevant to the main story.

Basically, any similarities between the two seem accidental to me. FFXV is way too direct with cutscenes and dialogue to make me believe they were trying to go for the style of mystery the Souls games do. I'm not even saying one style is better than the other, I just fundamentally don't believe that's what they were trying to do with FF.

I'm a huge Souls fan, but I don't see the comparison to FFXV. FFXV actually has likable characters that grow and change, for starters.

so many spoilers
only started chapter 10
at first i clutched my pearls and clenched my arse
but then i realized i don't really care anymore

pretty crazy to know, assuming this is real(is this even the same plot leaker?)
they were aware of their treatment of females in the game
and the game stilled shipped like that

i always thought the outcries were for controllable party members
and not necessarily playable bros
making them solo dlc kinda defeats the purpose then no?

Outfit DLC incoming:

there better be free ones
even Tales games shipped with a bunch of peasant outfits

if true it sucks for both directors - tabata and nomura
Nomura taken away his baby project
Tabata having to make this huge ambitious Game in such a short amount of time

to hell with you Square Enix Managment.

Wow they really messed up with Luna...
There are several very different ways one can hold that same opinion.

I think Luna, while serviceable in the game we got, would've been better if they kept the abuse scenes, the crying scenes, the sacrifice scenes. Make her a Christ-like figure. That's being "strong" in its own right. But they feared people would say she's "weak," so they deleted those scenes.

There are still elements of the Christ figure character (the healing, etc), but not enough suffering to show the full measure of her strength and perseverance.

At any rate, it's better than what they had planned for Stella in Versus XIII, who was to die before the game even began, lol.

I think it's pretty demeaning to the people who put time and effort into trying ot make FFXV the best it could be.

How do we know that these story telling elements weren't purposefully introduced into the game, because they realized they weren't going to be able show everything. So they looked for alternatives.

Maybe they looked at Souls game and were like "Hey, lets try to integrate these methods of story telling into the game, since we won't be able to make elaborate cutscenes to explain everything?"

You're essentially crapping on the dev team by saying they did something accidentally.

Lets just say they did "accidentally" add these story telling elements, that still means FFXV and Souls games share similar methods of story telling.

I'm of the opinion that: If they're going to try to fix the story they should pretty much scrap what they have with Luna and Ravus entirely and start over. Especially since both of their stories pretty much only exist in cutscenes and that's a lot of what they're redoing anyway it shouldn't be too hard to write over it.

my current really really rough thoughts on a better alternative taken from a thread I'm working on

I think it would be cool that if as the oracle Luna tries to warn the world of the dangers of Starscourge but people don't listen because its out of sight, out of mind and they're happy being complacent, Luna ends up feeling frustrated and alone but Noctis believes her. This gives us an actual reason to care about collecting the summons rather than "Well, just do it".

While Ravus doesn't care because he doesn't believe in any of it since he's the lapdog of the Nifs and he and everyone else is oblivious to what they're doing behind closed doors for their power. It would also be nice if his execution scene was shown at the end of chapter 9 rather than just talked about in a newspaper on a train so at least it makes some sense for Ardyn to have his dead body.

Wow they really messed up with Luna...

I've never been so intrigue by a fictional female character that I know nothing about.

My curse with this game is that I have paid attention to every trailer and official news release for the past ten years.

I came in expecting some dinner scene, a fight inside a falling/breaking building, and some other stuff that didn't make it in game.

If this game was the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy instead of the Versus I think we would have had a outstanding trilogy and the state of the series would be in a better place.

Down side to that is we'll be getting the Lightning games now.

:/

What I simply don't understand is how these allegedly so controversial scenes for Luna left early concept stages and were even greenlightes and rendered for the final game, before anyone though "the players aren't going to like this".

If the stuff about them changing their minds about Luna after the fans got to watch Kingsglaive (which was in September lol), they just messed up big time. No one thought that these scenes didn't fit what they had been marketing all these months?

I would like next time they will give FF development not to Tabata or Nomura, but someone who knows what made FF great.

Who else is in Square Enix right now that could direct a new Final Fantasy?

I don't, my inital point was that they have similar story telling styles when it comes to the finer details of a story.

I have to be honest, it really sounds like you're trying to cover for the devs lack of time to cover the plot holes.

Comparing Final fantasy to Souls games as far as story telling sounds completely outrageous.

Why are you doing this?

More I hear of Versus it's totally a more FNC title than I was expecting.

Regretting that username any?

Its just good advice in general not to name yourself after a character from a series/story that hasn't finished or released.

I mean I know I guy who named themselves a certain name from a series before it finished and he was angry/devastated when the surprise plot line with the guy got brought up.

I think Luna is a strong heroine. She doesn't fight, but that doesn't matter. She resolved at a young age to fulfill her destiny, even if it meant her untimely demise. That takes courage and that takes strength.

I just wish we got more scenes with her. Perhaps they'll reinstate some Luna scenes in the coming updates, or better yet, maybe they'll go ahead with the Luna DLC chapter (they said they were entertaining it due to fan demand) and further develop her.
