NieR Automata PS4 demo available now

It wouldn't really work with this game. You get different combos depending on whether you hold the buttons or mash them, and there's no Wicked Weave equivalent so it isn't really necessary. Combos are a lot more like Revengeance than Bayo.

I did not know this. Time to load up the demo again.

This has two of my favorite things. Akihiko Yoshida and mecha. Man Nier and Nioh coming out soon is going to be crazy.

I remember that Kamiya himself tweeted he isn't quite involved in production of this game.
I wonder who's the key personnel behind the excellence.

This game wasn't on my radar until an hour ago when I saw the demo thread...now I'm hitting refresh here every 30 seconds hoping for word that the US demo is out. I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

Loving every aspect of this game so far. Everything just clicks and feels right. Plus the menus and UI is simply beautiful.

Will I need to play the original Nier to get the most out of this one?

I would say not really, some minor story elements may carry over but it's certainly not necessary. If anything look into the lore of the previous game and series online first before playing

Might watch a let's play, I skipped last generation so never had a chance to play it and probably won't unless it gets remastered for PS4 - this looks right up my alley though.

It doesn't seem like it. I imagine their stories will connect in the background but this should mostly be self contained like Nier is. In fact a lot of the larger things about the world and stuff come from outside Nier in the first place. The game itself is a fairly self contained experience

unknown, but SPOILERS without names.
3 characters from nier are in the game, a character explained/back from drakengard 3 and possibly the cult from drakengard one since a character has a tattoo that has the symbol of the cult and has red eyes
Just watch a lets play without commentary

Jesus fuck. Why did they release a demo of this, now i can't wait for next year even more than i already couldent

I just had to stop playing for a second to state the following: The combat is smooth as fuck. God damn. You can actually see what's happening on screen, too (unlike some of Platinum's other efforts)! Also, this isn't Platinum's usual "60 FPS" that we're used to — the game is seemingly running at its target frame rate the whole way through. Bravo.

All that being said, the environment is pretty boring, but whatever.

Just woke up. Some nice responses in this thread! The combat getting favourable comments makes me happy.

Is this up on NA/EU PSN yet?

I don't know how to quite describe it and what caused it, but this demo made me nostalgic for some reason.

Maybe it was the music, or the way the camera pulls out/level progression. I don't know.

Pro seems totally solid 60fps. How's the base version feeling? This is nothing like other Platinum console games for sure though

900p, but mostly solid FPS wise.

I just have to say...based on this demo, this game is gonna be one of the best of next year, its not even a debate

You really shouldn't be able to mash dodge freely like this lol.

It's a thing in Platinum games. And it's something I don't like.

The execution of a dodge should be something planned and executed. With start up frames, recovery frames, and not all of it having invincibility. It leads to situations where you just say 'fuck it' let's mash dodge without actually learning enemy/boss attack patterns. What's worse, is that platinum even further encourages this by giving you power ups after a successful dodge. I.e, witch time, or new combat abilities and other such perks.

Your reward for dodging attacks should be that you avoided incurring damage. That's it.

But it's platinum's combat engine they keep using, I've learned to deal with it.

Accord is back?

Still only playable on jpn account huh?

Things like this is why you get a JP account.

Holy hell that was a really good demo. Didn't know shit about this game going in, but now on the other side this is almost guaranteed a purchase from me.

Press the Light Attack button right after a perfect dodge and she'll do a launcher.
She has unique melee and ranged attacks right after perfect dodges.

That move is hilariously overpowered. Even moreso on the higher difficulties where the enemies are more aggressive, because it just makes it easier to get a perfect dodge and sweep whole mobs of enemies up into 2B's auto-launcher-death-whirlwind where you can tear up like five dudes at once :p

That and the fact that you can dodge infinitely without consequence to i-frame your way through just about anything are probably a little broken, but for a larger RPG kind of game I'm OK with it.

btw, there's a hidden area that leads to a Dark Souls-ish unlockable shortcut that I didn't notice my first time through:

If you jump onto that orange crane in the foreground you reach a path where you can lower a crane that'll let you skip a good chunk of the level if you ever have to go back through this area.

The dodge functions like Bayonetta's but has the use of Raiden's parry. You can just mash dodge against physical attacks and never get hit. I was right up against the digger and I just had to mash R2. I was fine.

Ranged attacks are another story...
