There are all kinds of shortcuts in the factory too.

Also, I like how the HUD auto-hides if you don't do anything. It's the small things, but you can tell these guys have really thought things through.

The cutbacks in visuals make sense for a stable 60fps on OG PS4. Based on my experience, its pretty solid performance wise.

Just tried reeeaally fast (5 mins because I have to go back to work) and yeah, I think they should have put a soft lock for 2B melee on hard mode.

Other than that the combat is pure PG goodness, so good. Can't wait to play it as it deserves tonight.

That is the first time a demo has sold me on a game in a long time. Truly hyped. I wasn't interested having not played the first, but I'm in day one now.

Also, how come the term "you can't have a good impression of a game" only gets thrown around when the demo is bad?

Just finished it, really nice stuff. Dat boss fight.
Combat was very smooth. I wish there was a bit more variety of moves but could just be the demo. Didn't look at it too much but there seems to be crazy amounts of customization in the menus-i hope that it's a bit more useful than the original.

Amazing demo, controls and combat system feel a lot like Bayonetta. Not sure if it's just as deep from this quick try (there seem to be a lot less combos and no witch time, but wouldn't be a problem considering it's an rpg), but i love how everything feels fast and responsive. Surprised there wasn't any "automa time" after that dodge lol

I had a few issues with it as well, namely the nearly non existent enemy variety and their basic attack patterns, those sections with the camera seen from above and i'm not a fan of the locations (although i already knew it because of the trailers), but everything else was really great. That final part.

So basically nothing changed for me, still hyped as shit, and still a D1 purchase.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Ehhhhhhh.

Haven't finished it yet. Booted up on hard and got what seemed pretty decently far into it before dying. But whatever. It's fine, but what I want out of it isn't demonstrated in the demo.

Platinum make excellent games and I keep buying them for that reason, but I'm not going to lie; they're all blurring together for me. Familiar concepts, game mechanisms, animations, combos, counters, and underlining nuances are abundant as they have been in the last crop of Platinum's games. And that's, you know, not necessarily a bad thing since they do those things so well. But at the same time the familiarity is getting a little trite in small bites like this. It's hard to give a shit about a demo when it's exactly what I expected, even if what I expected is solid and welcome.

The little nuances that I hope from a Taro game alongside a more distinct identity in overall design just aren't particularly strong in a small vertical slice like this. ANd fair enough; grander concepts of game design just aren't explored, like the questing, developing narrative, encounter balance alongside the levelling and loot systems, and so on. That's okay.

But it does mean I'm playing Another Platinum Game™ with the demo and that's just whatever to me. Probably wont bother going back and finishing it since whatever's left (a boss fight I assume) I'll just save for the full game, and I'd rather be engaged by the broader game design upon release to drive me forward than do the same old song and dance again.

Will say; soundtrack was a bit boring, all things considered.

"Witch time" is a pod function they showed of in trailers before so the gameplay will have more to offer than this little piece of the game. Platinum loves their trials and this game will probably have a lot of them.

This demo needs to come out already on PSN US. So the real question is,what do you guys think of the soundtrack/music so far? The original NieR soundtrack is really phenomenal and would be a little disappointed if Automata's is not as good.

It's the same artist behind the music - Keiichi Okabe - and Emi Evans returned for vocals alongside some other people. If it doesn't live up to the original Nier, I guess you could just complain at him for not exceeding his masterpieces every time he makes a new OST.

What I heard in the demo was pretty good but they're probably saving the super-god tier tracks for the full game.

Why the hell do I need PS+ for this :( Ain't nobody got money for that.

I didn't need PS+ to download it from JP PSN. Where are you getting that?

This is one of the games, where I am glad I did invest in the PS4 Pro. Other than games that also perform and look great on the standard PS4, this game feels like it's base version is struggling and only on the Pro (and PC) does it reach it's full potential.

Some screens I did:

I wouldn't call the game pretty...but the smoothness, pure action and the size of everything on screen is definitely impressive.

It's probably unrated for the store you're on. The uk and jp store should have no ps+ requirement.
Germany. Hm, then I might make a JP account.

Oh that was absolutely great. Reminded me of a big budget version of that old PS2 game, Red Star. So over the top, melee combat felt great, tackling it on hard without the lock-on was actually a lot more fun than I'd expected, really forces you to think with your thumbs and do a combination of melee and ranged at the same time.

Day 1. Played on standard PS4 btw, didn't notice it "struggling" at all unlike the poster above. Game ran smooth as butter

Yeah I loved EVERYTHING about this, as expected. Combat isn't as fast as Bayonetta but I don't mind. It has more weight to it.

Giving you a robot with unlimited ammo that you can point with the right thumbstick is just so good.

Also loved the perspective changes. Overall a very Platinum games game, with a huge boss and a mech to control.

This is going to be a loooong few months...

The option to easily customize your controls should be standard in any game ever. Yes, I know, you can change it system wide, but that sucks, because it's syste wide.

I honestly find the gloriously slick look you only get with 60FPS to be more impressive than any ultra high-tech graphical effect you'd see in a 30FPS game. You can slather on all the motion-blur, SGSSAA, lens-flare and camera-dirt you like, but nothing looks like 60FPS except 60FPS, and I love it so much.

Well that was fucking awesome.

Judging by the menus this game has a lot depth to it besides the awesome combat that isn't showcases here in the demo.

Lack of lock-on is annoying, but it's clear that the game is designed to be able to play without it - anything hard to shoot should be hit.

10/10 demo, totally confirmed my expectations that this will be a great Platinum game.

I don't consider cutting the resolution and certain smaller graphical settings to be 'struggling' as long as it hits its performance targets, which it generally does.

Most platinum games have never been lookers outside of maybe bayo if you want to argue it.

People want a specific FPS? this is what you get. Cutbacks happen on limited hardware.

It was a great demo.
Loved the final battle.
Loved the fact it combined different styles into the combat system through the camera (sideways, and from above), but I thought the combat was too easy on normal, there was no challenge at all...plus enemies were pretty boring and the stages - uninteresting. (but the groundwork for something magnificent is there, they just gotta use that potential!)
All in all I'll definitely get it when it comes out.
Oh and I just adore the visuals. This game is just beautiful!

Glad to hear about the soundtrack having the same artist and vocals, I didn't know they came back. More than likely I'll love it. I've just seen some other people say they didn't really like it.

Heard about some people getting stuck in an endless loop on the title screen not realizing that X is cancel and O is okay in Japan

The game plays fantastic, fast, responsive, great animations, feels a little like Metal Gear Rising, just a bloody shame it comes out so close to Yakuza and Nioh releases, won't have the time and probably money for it on release. The beginning of next year is just too crazy.

I clicked on Licence and it returned me to the main menu. I legit thought this was Yoko Taro playing with me. >.<

Some of us are already feeling like we are getting fucked with by Taro from what they are laying out, mind-screws are afoot. Would i have expected a mecha action segment from a nier game? No but it is a platinum game so i guess that makes sense. What this shows is that they don't need to struggle with the gameplay to get the story across. Taro said he now got more time to actually write the story with Platinum making the game quick and efficiently and being drinking buddies with Kamiya. This demo can be completed in half and hour and lays out combat and gameplay concepts that the game will feature. The game would have to delete all those trailer music tracks for me to worry about the music right now.
