I remember back at e3 2015 when they announced this and mentioned production had barely started.
They worked quick. It's probably not a very long game though

Edit: That reaction still makes me laugh

This is fucking incredible.I aam shocked at how good this gameplay feels.

As much as I am happy to have this game,it made me even more painfully aware how fucking mediocre FFXV gameplay is.

& Dont tell me "different genres" just look how amazingly polished the sense of movement & attacking is in this game.

An action game simply has to feel good to the touch & FFXV fails miserably where this game excels.

FFXV is being mishandled by hacks...What a heartbreak.

Even the voice direction seems better in this.

The string seems to be:
Start with the default set 1
Launcher (Jump + early Heavy Attack)
Dash
Light attack
Switch set to default set 2
Light Attack
Heavy Attack

On point. The enemies die way too fast so it's a little hard to experiment. Definitely spending time in time attack when the game comes out.

Really? The voice acting was pretty bad in this demo IMO, probably the worst thing about it.

So why are we comparing this to FFXV? Why aren't we comparing this to other action games like Bayo or DMC. smh

Demo is awesome btw

Maybe you should stop playing FFXV as an action game.

Looks simple enough, will probably take me half an hour to learn and pull off lol, I suck at this.

Nier wasn't a particularly long game either, unless you went for the C and D endings and did sidequests.

I dunno, people really have something against XV around here.

And yeah, I would say both are different. Of course, I like Nier gameplay more, but XV was good in it's own way (although unpolished, that camera...)

Because it is an Action RPG like FFXV and not an Action game like Bayo or DMC.

Nier gameplay is pretty much action game gameplay. FFXV didn't try to mimic action games gameplay with it's combat.

Now that you mention it... How big do you guys think the chances are this will eventually be censored in the West? ;)

They should have scrapped FFXV and remade it from scratch. Too bad we won't get games like FFV-VI-VII-VIII-IX-X anymore.

It's an M-rated game and not published by Nintendo, they're not going to censor it and already said as much.

I didn't even know there was going to be a demo for this, it's in the queue and can't wait to try it out later this weekend. Those gifs man, damn.

I like how demos are more of a thing again. Hope this trend continues in 2017. We want demos devs!

Delete those, man.

As for censoring the game, there is no need for that at all. Camera manipulation has always been a thing and it is not as thrown in your face as those screens would make you believe anyway. The game is fine as is.

this demo so soon after FFXV felt like a godsend. A stark reminder that good 3rd person action exists, as it feels so damn rare, especially with "Action RPGs"
Maybe you should stop playing FFXV as an action game.
but it is an action game....

Nier gameplay is pretty much action game gameplay. FFXV didn't try to mimic action games gameplay with it's combat.

But the experience they want to deliver is closer to the one of a somewhat open JRPG liek the first, than to the short linear actionparades they usually do.

The qualities of Niers combat are obviously coming from P* action game experience, but that doesn't mean one should compare it to them over other RPGs imho, when the rest of the gamestrucutre is still closer to the one of a JRPG.

You don't usually compare FF games with Turn Based Strategy like XCOM either.

But at the end of the day genre classifications are outdated more often than not anyways i guess.

Currenyl playing the demo and damn! the movement, dodge mechanics are very nice.

I feel like the combo system is not like Bayonetta right? unless I'm missing something and need to continue practicing..

EDIT: Are there links to the demo soundtracks? I swear I heard Song of the Ancients here...

So what's this game structured like? I never played the original Nier, but I'm assuming that had like a hub area where you get quests, talk to NPCs, and venture out into the world's various areas?

Is this game like that, or is it similar to Bayonetta or MGR's stage progression structure. I'd love for this game to be a bit more open then that, since it's an Action-RPG.

What's with the FFXV comparison? That's like comparing Zelda and the Witcher

The former.

Open, connected world with Cities, Shops, NCP's, sidequests and such, with some more linear story dungeons here and there.

Really!! hmm strange I mean I can see Yoko touches all over the place even the combat of course PG has an influence

In this month's edge magazine there is an interview with the team in charge and Yoko has several times stepped in just to change things, for example rather than a move being a 100% hit it now randomly fails. Or the hidden item sound that uses a high pitched buzz that older people, including Taro, can't hear. (there is a UI modifier to balance this out).

His influence is heavy.

Haha, nah nothing special to see here if you compare it to watch dogs 2 ;). But it's funny that 3 of the first 5 screenshots in the psn community area of the game show the same thing.

The preview streams have shown off a base camp that acts as a hub as well as venturing out into the open world, so it's definitely more like the former.
