Just finished the download. I feel like this might be the best thing ever. I've always wanted a taro game with actual good gameplay.

Seems to be working out just fine for a Nier sequel.

Some of her grunts "ughs" when attacking lead me to believe I've been struck. That's going to take some getting used to.

I was iffy on the game but the demo completely sold me. I like everything I've seen/played so far and can't wait to play the full game. Messing around with the button timings and dashes, there's a lot of depth in the combat and we only have 2 weapons in the demo and only one special attack using the pod. Some people are complaining that it isn't as deep as a DMC or Bayonetta and I think it's way too early to be saying that.

I can only shrug how coming from the last game, automata is a disappointed already for some fans. It's almost like the persona thread during the P5-spoiler waves. So much resentment for no reason or very half-assed ones.

Really? Most people playing it in the import thread were loving the game. Did that change? I didn't follow too closely to prevent myself from getting spoiled.

Mate the environments look shit. The art is awful. Nothing but dreary looking warehouses and concrete.

I felt like they nailed the industrialist look. I love this kind of stuff. The only thing I wasn't positive about was how small the room with the machine making robots was. They could have at least made it so the background action was happening below you instead of above.

The final cutscene was so good. I hope this is the game's opening, followed by 2B waking up in that monocromatic base they showed.

That would make for a good intro I think. The fact that this is where 9S and 2B meet makes me think that it will be, but you never know with Taro.

Oh no i was talking about when the Persona OT got taken over by people being upset about certain unclear untranlated details which they were skirting around through spoilers. It was pre-emptive rambling on things they didn't even have full translations or understanding on and not really worth getting into. I don't even know if people who actually played the game chimed in on that conversation.

Yeah, and with them talking about things like
9S being a bit of a psychopath and murdering non-hostile robots if you take him with you
in interviews, makes me think there will be some rebuilding going on. We wake up as a new version of 2B, and each time an android need to be rebuilt, some data gets corrupted, causing slight changes in personality, or something.
That would explain how such a sweet boy would become what they hinted at.

Oh, I see. Nothing to worry about, then.

The artstyle is fine.

The graphics though... It literally did feel like I was playing a PS2 / 3 game at times.

I guess it's a trade off you have to make when you're making a game with battles large in scope and at the same time targeting 60fps on console.

In what world does it look like a PS2 game?

I've pretty much been on a media blackout outside of this demo so I'd never heard about what you have in your first spoiler tag, interesting. This game didn't seem to have the same weird over-the-top qualities of Nier and Drakengard, but I assumed it would come later. Good to have that confirmed.

I'm impressed. This game was not even on my radar since I never played the first. Thanks to GAF hype I checked it out.

Visuals and animations are really nice, gameplay seems varied, story/lore look to be interesting, and it launches in a few months. Will be looking out for this.

Also this:

the fact that someone could say "a ps2/3 game" should clue you in as to how well they remember prior generations.

I like what i saw, it plays like what i expected.
But honestly i am so disappointed with the graphics, i don't even know what to say.

It looks little better on PS4 Pro, but still... it's very ugly game overall. I like the art style and that's the most important thing for me but how can it technically be so bad?? I feel like this game deserves better.

Let's hope that there will be some improvements for the PC version.

Nier/Drakengard have always looked like shit. What were you expecting?

Great demo

The combat, music, aesthetics and variety of gameplay is on point.

The dialogue was a bit melodramatic for my tastes, but I suppose it fits with what they're going for here.

Is there a way to tap R1 for continuious gun fire? I feel like I just constantly hold R1 for entire fights which seems kind of...unnecessary as far as mechanics go. Unless that's just to reinforce the shooter hybrid mechanics.

Played through this last night, really enjoyed it. It's interesting how much shooting is emphasized, even more than in Bayonetta or W101, in my opinion. Gives you more options and a bit more to manage, too.

The different perspectives are neat, although it was a bit tricky taking on melee enemies when the camera's zoomed out.

Didn't bother to learn a launcher, just stuck with the scrub-tier light-light-heavy combo. I'll make mastering a launcher a priority when play the full game, though.

Maybe there are more unique moves in the final game that would make toggle a pain in the ass for that. In the demo you have jump + fire being that forward glide attack, for example.

Gonna download this tonight. Never played the first one, but with the amount of hype this is getting here and from what I've seen from it. It looks awesome.

Loved playing it and the graphics are great but the ridiculous dialog from those two kids and fact they're wearing those stupid bandanas over the eyes might be too much for me.

Now that was a great demo. I love these types of games. Love DMC and Bayonetta so this scratches that itch. The soundtrack is awesome, getting major Ghost in the Shell vibes from it.

I just hope that Sony gives it the PR push it deserves because it looks like a real winner for Platinum and S-E. C'mon Sony! (I feel like Microsoft would be pushing the hell out of it)

I'm definitely buying this day 1. Can't wait. I hope the PS4's worldwide success has given hope and reason for Japanese developers to make more weird console games. Nier gives me good PS2 era vibes in terms of direction.

A. Not a Sony game, but a Square Enix game that is also coming out on PC.

B. Of the two Japanese character action/RPG games coming out in spring, Sony is going to push Nioh more than Nier. They are publishing Nioh outside of Japan.

I actually think the game looks pretty nice.

Of course I am a fan of the dry, earthy palette that a lot of Japanese games go for and think it especially fits here with the rusty, industrialized tone. The effects are also quite beautiful.

I don't know how colorful people expect industrial environments abandoned for over eight thousand years to be, but I find it fitting as well.

More like, it's a 60fps game on console, open world at that, and not one with a massive budget.
You could argue it didn't need to be open world, but it's hard to make the argument before playing the full game.

Man I already commented on here but as I sit here and watch my son play it for the third time, I'm just so happy that this game exists.

Really hope the final game delivers and the gamble making a sequel to Nier pays off in spades.

I haven't even played it yet but even just seeing screenshots here and gameplay videos on YouTube I can tell you that if you truly think this is anywhere NEAR fucking PS2, you need to go back and hook that thing up and check for yourself to see how absurd of a comment that is.

Why do people keep saying Open World? The level design is more like Souls games. Fairly linear with shortcuts you can open.

As a person who regularly goes back to and plays ps2/PS3 era games, some of you folks need to take your nostalgia goggles off.

While not a heavy hitter in the graphics department, nier automata looks at the very least, decent for current gen, especially for a 60fps game with fast action that's going to have an open ended structure.

I played this through on normal last night. After sleeping on it I have some feedback.

The controls and traversal are absolutely stunning, this is Nintendo platforming levels of satisfying. Little things like the way you can quick boost up the stairs make it a joy to move around and really shows how much effort the team put into basic movement.

I love the way the camera switches perspective, the bullet hell, the scale of some of the enemies. The arcade style is incredibly appealing and fun to repeat. I loved how much variety was packed into this brief slice, especially the ZOE sections (although I do hope the full game makes these a little more interactive).

The combat itself is a little shallow in the demo, but what is there is good. The melee parts are the best, especially the dodge/counter mechanic (although it is a little too forgiving with its timing).

The shooting however felt a little lame. The default stream of bullets was only really useful for clearing projectiles, it took forever to kill enemies and even with the lock on it had low feedback and precision. In contrast to how tight the melee combat is this definitely felt too loose to me.

The pod cannon is great, but when surrounded by enemies designed to be shot it takes too long to charge in-between spamming your slightly impotent main gun that the shooting parts feel like lulls in momentum. I ignored the gun as much as I could and just leapt around with my weapon/fists.

The environments are bland and currently just feel like arenas for an action game with light RPG elements. I'm not expecting XV scale, but I do hope there are exploitable areas or at least more branching paths in the full game.

I also hope there's a lot more to the combat we haven't seen. Many more guns and skills/abilities to unlock.

The graphics are great, imo. 60fps is not only a benefit to gameplay but also to visuals, so I'd even put this on par with some 30fps games with "better" visuals". In motion, this game looks killer.

The enemy design is fun, it really suits the tone of the game.

The VA and characters were good, more than good enough to prop up the gameplay. If the story is as interesting as the original game then this really could be great.

Overall the demo's convinced me to day one NieR. I just hope everything's a bit more fleshed out in the final game.

Just completed very hard mode which wasn't too bad after a few practice runs. Really enjoyed it, it certainly is no bayonetta and is closer MGR but with an emphasis on dodge timings rather than parries. The combo system is a bit basic (which isn't a bad thing) compared to other platinum action games but it's is great way to introduce arpg fans to character action games. Still need to do more testing though of course. Using the pod during combos constantly is very important similar to Vergil summon swords in DMC3.

And man, the custom controls and wide array of camera options can't be praised enough, especially coming from platinum. Great music too. Really like the character design of 2B as I thought it was quite elegant. Not a fan of the voice acting of both the boy and the girl and thought the writing was melodramatic. Never played Nier but I'm just just here for that platinum action. Between this and ni-oh, action fans have a good 2017 coming.

What an amazing demo. Blew away my expectations, and I'm a huge fan of Nier on the PS3. It's exactly what I wanted it to be. Day one.
