2B and 9S are canonically dead. You play as that other girl the whole game.

Oh my, if this actually happened, that would be quite something. Personally I thought they'd either get magically saved, or they'd just get replaced with exact replicas.

Man, if they really do pull a MGS2 with 2B and 9S.

I could see that actually happening considering who is directing this game.

NieR: Automata |OT| 2B or not 2B?

This fight pretty much ruined big bosses for me

,
i hope n:a avoids them for the most part.

Real story: I intentionally let the boss kill me before going to the next phase just to see this shit over and over again.

Simply mindblowing

NieR: Automata |OT| 2B or not 2B?

Yessssss, A+.

zzzz just activate witch time on every attack and easily blast through the fight if you're not playing on NSIC, i mean i can blast through bayo 1 now but jeanne and gracious and glorious are still a problem in your first playthrough of the game while never feeling that in bayo 2

I've played through B1 a few times, but man, I still feel pretty nervous anytime I run into Jeanne or Gracious/Glorious. (Those motherfuckers.) I loved the spectacle of B2, but in retrospect, nothing inspired the terror of running into Jeanne or G&G.

Well downloading now, i was trying to resist the urge to "spoil" myself the gameplay until it was in my hands but it's too good to pass up.

Looks like I'm gonna be in the minority here. I adored Nier. It had its flaws, but it was a fresh flavor from an RPG, and I loved every minute of it.

When I heard there was gonna be a more enhanced and exciting combat system in this, I was excited. I thought it would be Nier, but with better combat.

Maybe it's just the demo, which is why this will still be a day one purchase for me, but I didn't like it. Yes, the combat was fun, but it feels like they sucked the RPG soul out of it entirely. It feels like Bayonetta with a Nier skin. And I loved Bayonetta, but if I want my Bayonetta fix, I'll go play Bayonetta. I loved Nier, because I loved RPGs and it was an RPG through and through.

From the top-down camer angles, to the linear pathways... ugh. I just didn't dig it. At all. It feels like an full-on action game. I hope the full game turns out to be a lot more like Nier, but this felt like Bayonetta 3.

Anyone else figure out that you quit the game by uninstalling the OS in the skills menu? This could be really cool in the full game. You could uninstall parts if the HUD to free up more space for passive buffs.

Yea, we've made jokes about that quite a few times now. It'd be really interesting if we actually have to take out the OS chip for a quest or something, though I doubt it. Seems to just be there as a way to just mess w/ players and see if they'll actually remove it.

I would honestly be surprised if it wasn't a requirement for one of the endings.

One of the endings (maybe the only ending?) will probably be of 2B getting infected, and needing to destroy herself by going into the menu and choosing the removal option.

I can picture it now:

*2B, crippled forward on her knees and unable to move, cries out in-pain. "KILL ME!", she screams to 9S/A2. Those looking on, unable to do the jobs themselves, forces the player to enter the option menu (the only controllable option given to them at the time) with all options grayed out except the remove chip section. Once initiated, 2B ends up dying, before the credit begins to roll.*

Please don't let this happen, I couldn't take it emotionally. Just by playing a bit of 2B in the demo, I've already grown to love her. ;_;

Got around to playing the demo. Definitely not enough story-wise to really gauge (speculate, sure, but nothing more than wild speculation) but I liked the gameplay well enough, felt like some of what Nier was going for (what with switching to "2D" gameplay and shooting at times) filtered through Platinum, and that's more than good enough for me.

Imagine if Nier had XIII's budget. Poor Nier, always having to live in the shade of big FF games.

I think that's, well sorta what we are getting, well not XIII but a budget in general, yoko taro makes amazing games that are all pretty shoe string. I'm playing drakengard 3 right now and, holy hell you can feel every dollar they have to spent to keep the lights on. Having platinum on the game this seems like he finally can make a game without having to do those tricks to make his game work (repeating levels Nier, combat rooms drakengard 3, ect). I'm really hoping he takes advantage of it, considering it's actually open world it sounds like he should be.

Okay so, I liked the demo but:

Is there dodge offset? I tried but didn't seem to be doing anything new.

Are there different combos we don't know? The move set is more limited than Metal Gear Rising by the feel of what's in the demo (I'm sure there's a lot more later on)

Does this even play like the original Nier? I'm worried about what isn't the combat since Platinum has it.

I enjoyed it and look forward to the PC version.

Where were the top-down camera angles in Bayonetta?

There are different weapons, it is an rpg so I imagine there's alot more to crack.

Sorta, okay nier played poorly and I'm in love with the game. Gameplay wise it was a generic action game that was kind of clunk with mechanics that made it interesting. So you would have the camera angle change, or/and the bullet hell stuff. It's weirdest made you forgive it's short comings gameplay wise just because of how varied it was. So yeah this is super platinum game, but it has the right spirit in the gameplay area. It's taking what made nier play interestingly while actually being fun to play now.

Wha? Felt a lot like the dungeons in Nier to me but with better combat.

It doesn't have bayonetta's dodge offset.

Sounds promising

That's a shame. Been in every Platinum game... What, ever I think? Besides Vanquish.

Yet another game made on the Bayonetta/Rising mold. It's still very well done, but it's all "been there, done that" from Platinum. Even the shmup sections are an old staple.

I was hoping to see more of the RPG side of the game, you know, the actual stuff that's new for Platinum.

but you don't fight anything besides Balder here

The monsters in the back are just backgrounds

It's like saying SF4 ruined Africa for you

Yes, I am aware.

Yea i don't really see, what needs explaining.
Big bosses are always focused on spectacle and i've never played anything close to that.

The reason i brought it up is , the last boss here is like "w000w cool big robot" and its like "this is actually boring, because youve done way cooler stuff before".

To be fair that fight had quite a bit of build up to it which payed off. Bayonetta vs Balder who are portrayed as having similar abilities, in other words a rival fight.

This is just a short demo from what is presumably an early game dungeon if not the first one. The boss itself felt more like an introductory sort of thing if that makes sense.

I think so far we've only seen the Goliath type machine and the Opera Singer from the E3 trailer.

I can only hope they have some cool boss fights planned.

Maybe some stuff against A2 or Adam and Eve since it looks like a fight was about to start based on a scene in one of the recent trailers.

It practically mirrors exactly why I don't like the overall look of Bloodborne, yet you seem to think it's so amazing.
Well for one thing, the colour schemes are still better than just "mushy brown". For another thing, the architecture is far more interesting (spires are inherently cooler than generic flat metal doors). And lastly, there is far more intricacy in terms of details and various graphical effects (such as lighting) to give it atmosphere. I understand the sacrifice for 60 fps but even with that it doesn't excuse the drab art direction.

So, why does 2B wear high heels? It seems extremely impractical while fighting to say the least.
Because female leads have to be sexy first, everything else second. Or else.

Yes, they were clearly going for practicality, when setting down the design paradigms of this game.

Where were the top-down camera angles in Bayonetta?

Not quite the same thing, but Bayonetta also had some "gimmicky" sections (surfing, space harrier sections etc).
I didn't mind them though, broke up the pace and they were mostly alright.

There is a big cylinder room where your partner says "we have to destroy this". can you destroy that room? I shot every canister in the room to see what happened

This game is excellent. Feels so good gameplay-wise. See, this imho is what is missing in modern games. Reminds me of an old school character action game with very good controls, wild, over-the top action and very nice music. Definitely getting this.
