From how I'm reading it. They bit off more than they could chew, fell behind on some other projects - forcing them to siphon people from the Scalebound team - and by the time they could place them back on the team they were already too far behind for Microsoft to bother anymore.

That's what I'm thinking happened too going by the wording in that article. Bad management on Platinum's part.

Pretty crazy considering this must've been pretty far into development, 3 years is a lot of time.
It had issues but I was hopeful that it would deliver in the end.
Maybe another publisher will pick it up.

damn that sucks. was my #1 most hyped xbone exclusive and the only xbone game I had on pre-order lol

I guess I don't really need an xbone anymore outside of Red Dead via BC.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Game probably was just too expensive and ambitious....it kinda lacked the clear focus you are used from Platinum Games and their titles like Bayonetta.

It wanted to be single player, multiplayer, monster hunter, zelda, dmc etc. all at once and ended up not showing off too well.

Sometimes less is more...just wondering if Kamiya wanted that all or MS kept pushing him to add in more shit.

Well shit, after this, Phantom Dust and Fable Legend, i don't think i'll ever trust another Microsoft announcement unless it's some obvious first party.
Not that you should buy consoles off of promises, but i'd be pretty pissed right now, if i did.

You really shouldn't. Microsoft was desperate to announce exclusives for the one they made cg trailers without developer input. Scalebound and Phantom Dust both had trailers before they were ready to be shown. Someone wrote a post-mortem of Phantom Dust's development that talks about it. You should read it if you can find it. Crackdown 3 is probably having problems too.

God dammit Microsoft. It's literally only Halo Forza and Gears huh? This pisses me off so much.

Sony should pick it up. They don't care about missing deadlines lol.

This would be absolute best case scenario. I really liked the gameplay I saw of this game, even if it was a bit generic.

Oh well, I was looking forward to this game when it was first announced, then they revealed gameplay and... I simply stopped caring about it, it looked dull. A shame it came to this, but maybe Kamiya can focus on something that looks much more promising.

Kojima needs to sweep Kamiya and his top staff. Platinum is in trouble especially after Activision taking down their previous game. They have a studio issue, and Kamiya alone cannot save them.

Looking into selling my Xbox for a PS4 atm.

Dunno if I'll actually do it, but really there's no point not doing so anymore.

Wow, that really came out of no where. wasn't this one of the first PC x Xbox One titles announced? I was actually expecting E3 this year to have a final release date or something for this, and I was really looking forward to playing it.

That's what I'm thinking happened too going by the wording in that article. Bad management on Platinum's part.

They said that senior staff needed a break, not that the shifted workload between projects. If senior, lead staff is on vacation, is normal that the project falls behind.

Man this is disappointing.

Kamiya is my all time favourite developer (well second to Miyamoto). SUCKS seeing what's been hyped up as his dream game being cancelled. Really hope it isn't true.

On the flip side, I wouldn't say no to W102 or Bayo3 by kamiya.

Sure, spin this into a "good thing". Whatever makes you sleep at night.

I don't have any hatred whatsoever for Xbox, quite the opposite in fact. I like the brand. I just dislike the people who are currently in charge and are running the division into the ground. If you are an Xbox fan you should feel the same way. Nobody more than myself wishes I was more wrong about Microsoft and Phil Spencer. Nobody.
Microsoft is a business, they were paying platinum for a good game and after 4 years platinum had nothing to show for it. All of the previews and impressions were either negative or mediocre as well and it's not like Platinum Games sell bucket loads either. Yeah some of the blame can be directed at Microsoft for contracting platinum considering their games don't really sell but lol at trying to pin this all on Spencer.

So did Platinum take members off Scalebound to work on something else or did they just go on vacation for a month? That line in the article is weird in that they were forced off the project.

Sounds to me like development was hell and they needed time off for their mental health. That's why it specifically states about the workload and major engine problems

Great, another Microsoft property gone. I'm not in the "fuck MS" crowd, but my reasons for gaming on Xbox are dwindling. They keep cancelling projects, they keep closing studios, and they keep dropping the things I get hyped for, while pushing stuff I really don't care much about.

I'm losing interest, and at this rate I'm starting to feel very unsure whether I should really bother getting the Scorpio since PS4 is more and more becoming my preferred platform.

Maybe Platinum messed up, but I really wouldn't be surprised if it's Microsoft sticking their nose in and demanding changes left and right. After that whole Lionhead post mortem Eurogamer posted, I wouldn't be surprised.

That E3 2014 conference may as well have just not even happened for Microsoft.

Fable Legends, Phantom Dust, Scalebound, and Crackdown 3 all shown off that year and haven't come out yet or got cancelled.
Also from that E3 2014: Forza Horizon 2 and Ori which both came out and were well received.

That was it for MS published games though, as far as I can see. Not a great batting average.

It's a shame really since Microsoft's actual line up was good a couple of years ago before they just started cancelling so much or delaying so much, now it just seems so spread thin. That's why I bought my Xbox One and that's why I will now probably sell my Xbox One.

Unless you absolutely adore HaloForzaGearsFable then the machine is basically Wii U dead at least in my opinion. The only things that sounded interesting got cancelled and the remaining games (basically Crackdown 2 and State of Decay 2) are coming to PC anyway. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised of these 2 get bumped up to Scorpio.

Same thing happened at the end of the 360 life cycle.

That's not how I read the article. This line:

Work on the game took a serious knock last autumn, Eurogamer sources say, when several senior members of the development team were forced to take a month away from the pressure of the project's heavy workload.

doesn't sound like these members went to work on some non-Scalebound project at Platinum, but that they took time off from the company altogether due to presumably having nervous breakdowns, as apparently Kamiya is doing right now as well.

It sounds like more of a case of the development not going well (Kamiya's mental health may have been an issue), and MS didn't really have an option.

Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Recore?
People here are still shouting they want a SO 2. But can you blame MS for being abit reluctant about that. Because it didnt sell well.

I bought Sunset Overdrive, I don't have any interest in the other two because they looked very average in reviews and in opinions I read.

This sucks. I love Kamiya and I hate to see a developer's game get cancelled, but...

One of the few Xbox games I had on order.

After Fable Legends, Phantom Dust and this, expecting the same to happen with Crackdown honestly.

Not to mention Below and Cuphead were announced in 2013&2014 respectively and are nowhere to be seen.

I forgot about Below or what it even was lol.
Cuphead is also coming to Steam day one I believe.

These are both pretty small games and not as big as the games mentioned before.

Maybe 2017 and 2018 are just going to be dry years for the Xbox One, like the Wii U, except it will have third party to help.
And then 2019 comes the Xbox TWO.

But in all seriousness, what the hell is going to be the point of buying a Scorpio?
Play third party games/old games in 4k?

I bet Microsoft are working on a Halo 3 remaster right now so they can launch it same day as Scorpio so it does decently in sales. Gonna push that shit out the door MCC style. lol
