So, $299 was generally expected to be the logical price of the system, but now it's confirmed people are trashing them saying it's a poor price?

Good fucking christ they can't win.

With Nintendo, I feel people often have such lofty and ridiculous expectations. They expect all the stuff and they expect it now.

With Switch, in the first year we have 3 of their top franchises, the best Mario Kart, FE, Xenoblade, 2 new IP and..well 1-2 Switch. Yet there are people saying "This is not enough". It's ridiculously absurd. Plus I expect stuff revealed at E3 for this year, too.

Yeah there are elements that are underwhelming (what do you expect with Battery when battery tech hasn't advanced with normal tech. Try playing a game on your phone non-stop for 3 hours and see what it does to your battery), but come the fuck on. Stop being so ridiculous.

So with all the negativity going on here how do people will think it will do sales wise? Do you think it will be the last nintendo console? Seems a bit too soon to do make a judgement but eh.

Any bets on the year when the second game that uses the IR camera features will hit?

2019? 2020?

Maybe Star Fox Switch & Roll?

I loved what they showed (Mario, Splatoon 2, SMT, Arms, the SE project, Xenoblade 2, Zelda). It's a great line-up.

That being said, I can't understand the reasoning behind the price and the whole launch in general. What were they thinking? 320-350 euros in Europe? Why? That's more expensive than an Xbox One or a PS4 bundle in most places. And what about those peripherals, why make them so expensive? And they add paid online on top of that? Seriously, what the hell were they thinking? Now, if they provided proper content for the launch, that would help in starting to justify the price. But Zelda alone won't move mountains, especially 320-350 euros mountains, when I can purchase a Wii U and Zelda at much lower a cost. And why are they repeating the same mistake of not bundling 1 2 Switch with the damn console? Don't they know what made Wii Sports work so well?

Are they that out of touch? I thought they had learned from past mistakes... I really did.

No, $249 was the expected price.

What kid in 2017 is 1-2 Switch supposed to entertain?

Competitive kids with friends?

You don't have to have face melting explosions in 4k to be entertained. Hangman, coloring books, and rock-paper-scissors are still popular ways to pass the time, yes even in 2017.

Alright, time to get stuff off my chest here now that things have seemingly slowed down.

First of all I came into this presentation happier than I have been in years. I left the presentation being highly disappointed and confused. Even angry, at certain segments. Let's break it down:

The biggest thing I was excited for with the Switch, 3rd parties be damned, it was a unification of their software divisions. This meant more games in one place. Where the hell are the games!? The only thing that really looks interesting is Breath of the Wild in the near future. Their insistence on cramming as much tech into these dumb little Joy-cons as possible just drove up the price for stuff that is, granted, innovative but something nobody wants nor asked for.

The price. The goddamn price. I knew this wasn't going to be a fun time when they opened the presentation with a big whopping $300 price tag and then followed it up with a double whammy of a paywall for their online showing. They didn't bother to instill confidence that this now subscription based online offering would be up to par with the other paid services. I have my doubts. Region free I guess but it never really applied to me.

1, 2, Switch! looks awful and certainly not for me. ARMS is an accident waiting to happen. And their highlight reels included frickin Street Fighter 2. They paraded what little 3rd parties they have out onto the stage and we mostly got vague promises of games. Look at Scalebound and see why they might not always pan out. Do we even know when Skyrim is coming out?

Splatoon 2 and MK8 Deluxe look fine, but they aren't around for launch. Mario Odyssey looks pretty good but that's holiday. Breath of the Wild is the only must have for me. It looked amazing! Thankfully I can just grab it on Wii U and call it a day.

The whole thing just looks like a worst-of-both-worlds type of gig. Too big and too bad of a battery to act as a handheld but underpowered and overpriced for a console. I don't want this thing. And it was basically the only thing I was looking forward to in gaming because despite Sony's line up there are no games on there I want to buy save The Last Guardian. Sadly, even for amazing games, one game doesn't justify a console. Didn't work with TLG, it's not working with BotW, despite looking absolutely stunning.

It just took a very long time to actually grasp what happened and realized that all of my worst fears were realized for this dumb little tablet with a dock.

At least I can get BotW on the Wii U. Switch will only win me back with both a Smash that has nearly doubled its content and a mainline Pokemon. As well as a price drop.

Sad night. And it was a night I've been looking forward to for months.

Wow. Didn't realize people were so down on it. Who seriously thought a full on home console would be only $50 more expensive than their handheld console? $300 was the only logical choice to anyone that isn't delusional.

What do you think about paying for online?

I think I remember some old posts from you on this subject, but maybe I'm wrong.

Even more, paying for online to use an app on your smartphone.

From browsing around it does seem to be polarizing. Either people love it or hate it. Hard to say how it will do, however I will argue that having Zelda at launch, Splatoon 2 in the summer, and Mario Holiday puts it in a much better position than the Wii U had.

I think if Switch get an E3 showing, we will feel better about the launch, because that's usually how new console launch.
Reveal> E3> launch. One presentation just not enough. Hopefully we'll get more information tomorrow.

Cant believe I waited since October to learn next to nothing about the system, and see almost no games other than punch-mashing and the 1-2 shouldhavebeenapackin shovelware. $250 perfect price was a bust, no pack in game, no Animal Crossing, paid online with NES/SNES games being the PS+ comparison. I was waiting until the last minute in case of another surprise Zelda SE but all they have is the gaudy red and blue version.

Region free is nice, but otherwise a complete bust for me. Oh, the 3/3 early release is nice..

Accessory prices are insane. 2 and a half hour minimum battery...

Well that's how you don't reveal a console. Price way too high for what is on offer, network services aren't even ready for launch and will be behind in features from the get go. No built in LAN or HDD (what year is it?) which means the vast majority of connections will be Wifi over p2p = terrible.

On the software side a barren wasteland if you like western made stuff. As for Japan the big 3rd party stuff is absent. Just ports of old games.

I was expecting at least they would push the handheld side, with heavy hitters like MH. But all signs point to this just being a weak home console. No way are parents going to buy this as a $300 handheld + a monthly sub . With terrible battery life to boot.

All those rumours about devs getting kits late was borne out in the presentation. Inviting people to the stage just to say they are going to start making games is unreal this late in development. Even if they were able to get a game made from scratch in 2 years that's a long time to be waiting.

Doubt you'll get a straight answer out of one of the biggest Nintendo defenders of the forum.

They assumed incorrectly then.

Besides, this is a terrible argument to begin with. I'm not getting a switch just for Zelda. I'm getting a switch at launch for Zelda. I'm sorry if that offends some people.

And again I ask, why would I buy a gaming PC just for one game? especially knowing down the line I'll be playing the Switch more too.

The game will look phenomenal in 4K (with even not that of an expensive PC). So it's right to say that many Gaffer could just emulate the game and have it look even better than this show.

but a lot of Nintendo fans will have a wiiU so its hard to say. As a gamer, I watched this presentation looking for them to surprise/drop a bomb and they managed to basically disappoint even my most bare expectations.

I have a hard time seeing right now what differentiates this with the average consumer from the Wii U. Like, if the Wii U did nothing for you, what of what was shown today can change that? the whole thing just feels a lot more "Wii U-ish" than I was expecting. Mario and Zelda look cool, and stuff like Xeno2 and Fire Emblem Mousou play well to the Nintendo crowd, but playing well to the Nintendo crowd has never been Nintendo's problem. I was optimistic after the initial reveal that maybe they were going in a newer direction and had a better focus, but now I'm not so sure.

Oh I nearly forgot.

That one NES or SNES game you can rent for a month for paying a monthly fee?

I gots a secret for yah, Ninty.

You can shove it right up your ass.

People have paid for 20-30 year old games potentially 3 times now. You should have offered all Virtual Console not Gamecube or GBA for free as a courtesy of buying the Switch. Greedy old shits.

To start we don't know the price of the paid online and we don't have any information about the friend/chat system on the switch, the app could be just a companion app. So maybe wait to have more information to be this negative

They're not.

The people who are proclaiming doom are the ones being ridiculous

Plenty of people aren't. There's hyperbolic nonsense on both sides. It's pretty easy to just not focus on that.

Nothing in their wording says "companion". You are going to need a phone/tablet app to use voice chat/party system. It's pretty obvious.

Perhaps this is what surprises me the most, the WiiU was expensive with its (arguably) failed pad. Instead of reducing, they increase the number of expensive gimmicks in their controllers.

That was appalling. After the video a few months back I was interested, but after watching that car crash I don't think so.

The price is higher than expected, with no pack in game.

Paid online after several free teaser months is taking the piss. How many online games did they release for the Wii U? - not many/? Yet they now expect people to pay for online, even though from what they have shown so far their focus still seems to be on local multiplayer.

Launch software seems to be conspicuous by its absence. Apart from Zelda, it seems to consist of rubbish like 1 2 Switch and Arms. Neither Mario nor Splatoon2 make the launch. What have their software people being doing for the last few years?

3rd party software was a joke. Okay, they have Skyrim, but.when you have Sega and Grasshopper onstage saying we will release something on the Switch eventually you know there is a big problem. If they have nothing really to say why do you not get some other companies up there instead, companies who can show off their games. The only reasonable answer to that is that there aren't any.

lol not even Xcom 2 for the platform? I guess it would have trouble running on it. They need more software, free online, more battery life, cheaper prices, fuck they needed more, I was expecting more from this.
The console looks sleek though, but innards are disappointing. I like the joycon and Splatoon 2 looks fun to play with the kids. But seriously, 350euros in France?

If only Nintendo would have had some kind of event for launching the Switch in which they could have clarified these aspects. Maybe at E3? /s

some people are even complaining that it uses SD cards (instead of proprietary memory like vita? like HDDs that will make the battery life go down even faster and that will crash if carried around carelessly?)

I dont get this comment. Xcom was never on a nintendo platform. why would it come out.

price will come down, battery life will improve with the next revision. the big question was software and I think we got some nice surprises there

So with all the negativity going on here how do people will think it will do sales wise? Do you think it will be the last nintendo console? Seems a bit too soon to do make a judgement but eh.

If the big Japanese 3DS devs bring their heavy hitters over and the Switch effectively becomes the next Nintendo handheld, and the price and battery life suffice for it to maintain 3DS numbers - then no I don't think it will be the last Nintendo console. Even then, it would be a minor success "despite itself"; I think we can safely say that nobody is going to use any of the waggle etc. gimmicks, for the majority it will be a screen with buttons and everything else will be a waste of money and plastic.

But I think that's unlikely, the price isn't right, the market for handhelds is smaller every year, the hardware is weak and the lineup is anaemic.

So yeah I think all signs point to this being another failure, doing more of what has failed for Nintendo in the past.

And if it does fail, yeah I think this is the last Nintendo console.

It doesn't look good, the launch line up is bad, yes we say all launch line ups are bad, but this time the switch is going up against 2 consoles going through their peak years with massive libraries and it is the least powerful of them. If they were going to disrupt that they need more heavy hitters to make a splash on launch, as well as a Zelda, a Pokemon, a Mario, they need to make a splash.

It's launching at the same price as Wii-U, you know the console that utterly bombed for them. You do the math and no way were people expecting the console that high

It doesn't mean it's not native on the device. Maybe for voice chat since idk if there is a (mic or headphone jack in the pro controller) but we could still have party system/chat in the switch. Anyway just have to wait a bit to see
