it has more games than the Wii U did in its first year...its just the weird distribution of them makes you wonder wtf Nintendo was doing into those dying years.

Like it meets my criteria of 8-10 games I'd buy for it so I'm fine...but it just feels like a Wii U all over again. Worth it for me personally but something that will eventually get fuck all down the line.

Hopefully this unified business stuff fixes that.

Its really weird. On paper, I got a new Mario games, Xenoblade 2, Zelda, Splatoon 2, and cool stuff like Arms. Bomberman and Mario Kart. I will also get stuff like Sonic, Yooka Laylee, and Rime (barring issues)...so I'm set. And yet there is this weird dread already surrounding it.

Nintendo could have knocked it out the park...but they didn't...and thats very concerning considering the Wii U.

also hurts because now every thread will be filled with shitposts and constant negativity.....and I can't really blame them this time.

oh welp, hopefully the treehouse stuff brings some cool new looks into things.

It doesn't look good, the launch line up is bad, yes we say all launch line ups are bad, but this time the switch is going up against 2 consoles going through their peak years with massive libraries and it is the least powerful of them. If they were going to disrupt that they need more heavy hitters to make a splash on launch, as well as a Zelda, a Pokemon, a Mario, they need to make a splash.

It's not just that it's bad but also that there were so few (first party) WiiU games that I think people were expecting focus was on the Switch.

Fucking great.

Switch = AU$470
Pro controller = AU$100
Zelda = AU$90

$660.... $660 fucking hell Nintendo.

Even without the Pro controller this thing would cost me AU$560.

I don't even know how this console operates, UI, friends list, social media sharing, OS speed and features etc etc.

Bad enough you got a ton of shit that kills you in AUS, those prices are INSANE!

I feel like the number of Switch games that will take advantage of the new gesture and distance sensor thing will be between 2 and 5 and no more. I just get the feeling of "abandoned gimmick" from it.

It doesn't mean it's not native on the device. Maybe for voice chat since idk if there is a (mic or headphone jack in the pro controller) but we could still have party system/chat in the switch. Anyway just have to wait a bit to see

why would their be an app for mobile devices if the system could do it all natively? Why would Nintendo mention the app for mobile devices first and foremost, and only the app for mobile devices, on their own documentation if the system could do it all natively? If Sony or MS released a phone app to do the things their systems could already do, such as voice chat, who the fuck would use it? How would that make any sense? Can anybody answer this for me?

So, $299 was generally expected to be the logical price of the system, but now it's confirmed people are trashing them saying it's a poor price?

Good fucking christ they can't win.

With Nintendo, I feel people often have such lofty and ridiculous expectations. They expect all the stuff and they expect it now.

With Switch, in the first year we have 3 of their top franchises, the best Mario Kart, FE, Xenoblade, 2 new IP and..well 1-2 Switch. Yet there are people saying "This is not enough". It's ridiculously absurd. Plus I expect stuff revealed at E3 for this year, too.

Yeah there are elements that are underwhelming (what do you expect with Battery when battery tech hasn't advanced with normal tech. Try playing a game on your phone non-stop for 3 hours and see what it does to your battery), but come the fuck on. Stop being so ridiculous.

Launching at the same price as the Wii-U with an arguably worse launch lineup (if you take into consideration Zelda is available on Wii-U) and worse specs and graphics next to it's competitors (bigger gap between Switch and PS4 than Wii-U and PS3).

They're putting all of their eggs into the mobile basket and they're only touting 3 hours for Zelda.

If only Nintendo would have had some kind of event for launching the Switch in which they could have clarified these aspects. Maybe at E3? /s

They said they clarify at a later date. Maybe we'll have more info on the treehouse live (I don't think so).

No need to be this bitter when the information is not available, but anyway too much negativity here for me even though I did have mixed feelings about the presentation.

It's launching at the same price as Wii-U, you know the console that utterly bombed for them. You do the math and no way were people expecting the console that high

That's not a comparable thing. The Wii U didn't bomb because of its price.

That's a shame. I see a lot of potential on Joycon motion thing. Hope more 3rd party will use it.

So with all the negativity going on here how do people will think it will do sales wise? Do you think it will be the last nintendo console? Seems a bit too soon to do make a judgement but eh.

I don't even know what the hell the market for this thing is besides Nintendo fans, which their aren't that many anymore if Wii U sales are any indication.

Underpowered, high price tag entry, lackluster launch lineup, paid online, etc. All of these are signs for yet another failure console. And if that's the case, this might be the last Nintendo console we get. Which would be a shame.

It's typical of Nintendo not to reveal all their games. I'm more than sure there will be a few surprises this year.

With that said Mario Oddysey, Zelda and Xenoblade 2 are now my most anticipated games of 2017.

I don't understand though.

It's a hybrid device so specs are limited somewhat. If it was a PS4 Pro level device, it couldn't be portable and it'd be a fuckton more expensive.

What do you guys want? Seriously?

You want the highest of spec with the lowest of price. In an ideal world, yeah that'd be great, but get a grip on realism

$250 with 1, 2, Switch would have been ideal. I can't believe they're charging $50 for that 'game'.

I would have been fine with $300 with 1, 2 Switch.

They really should bundle that game if they want this to become a "party" console. Something like that was what made the Wii spread like wildfire.

I bet the online is super cheap, but in any case, if you don't see the appeal of it, just don't buy it?

Sony is doing fine with their online payed services and laughable download speeds, not sure why people are pissed now at Nintendo having a go at it and maybe being a better service thatn the onne Sony and Microsoft is offering.

But again, throw a tantrum, everyone.

That's not a comparable thing. The Wii U didn't bomb because of its price.
It bombed because it was a poorly conceived and executed product released late in the gen's life cycle at an unpalatable and uncompetitive price with unimpressive tech.

Which of course is nothing like the Switch.

some people are even complaining that it uses SD cards (instead of proprietary memory like vita? like HDDs that will make the battery life go down even faster and that will crash if carried around carelessly?)

I dont get this comment. Xcom was never on a nintendo platform. why would it come out.

price will come down, battery life will improve with the next revision. the big question was software and I think we got some nice surprises there

Because it's a perfect game to play on mobile and they need all the games they can get? I mean they have Todd Howard telling us Skyrim is coming to the Switch.

Are you honestly satisfied with this launch games list? At that fucking price?

I wanted to see a better direction than "Here's more of the same kind of stuff (half assed mini game collections and hardcore Nintendo games) that we did with Wii U". This honestly felt like Wii U v 2.0. Some people might like that, specifically Nintendo fans who bought Wii Us. But a whole shit load of people didn't. It shouldn't be surprising that those people are going to be disappointed at what looks like more of the same.

The 300USD price expectation was always predicated on cutting edge hardware, and a pack in game at launch. (Likely a WiiU port that was already profitable)

Most would happily pay 300USD for a portable device with an Xbox 1/Ps4 level CPU, 500-800Gflop cutting edge Nvidia GPU and a 6.2 inch 60Hz 768p Gsync display even a 540p version of that display would have been fine at 300USD

What Nintendo presented today was a likely a portable WiiU thats about as powerful as a 100USD smartphone and a whole bunch of overpriced accessories,(Dock/Joycons) without any games to justify their inclusions. Actually with barely any interesting games full stop and a launch lineup as barren as Gerudo Desert.

We are 9 months away from Microsoft launching a 6+Tflop next gen console at a likely price of 399USD yet Nintendo want to charge a similar amount to buy a switch console thats likely 20x less powerful and a Pro controler. While having a barren first party lineup and nonexistent 3rd party support.

While Sony's PS4 Pro is also leagues ahead in power and will probably be 350USD by christmas.

So, some basic thoughts:

When watching the presentation I was pretty happy and consistently impressed with some of the stuff (Mario, Zelda, Splatoon), but when it was over and I thought about it I realized it was pretty disappointing.

he real damning thing to me is how they seem to be failing to sell this thing. I'm honestly fine with the current lineup, I feel like this thing will start slow and we'll learn more about games in the coming months, and it has enough stuff for now. But the fact that this thing really doesn't seem like it'll appeal to a wide audience is really hitting me hard. The pricing is insane; I'm willing to pay, but I dunno how many others are. The controllers cost too much, stuff like 1, 2 Switch and ARMS cost too much, paid online shouldn't be a thing for what they offer, it's all just bad and I think it'll bite them in the ass. I also just really don't think stuff like 1, 2 Switch will appeal to a wide audience, and it's just wasted resources.

That being said, it's not an unsalvageable platform. If they pull a 3DS-style 180 where they drastically cut the price and do a soft-relaunch in fall when Mario comes out, and then they have a good lineup and a dope advertising campaign, then I think they could maybe do fine. Otherwise I think they're either gonna go third-party for realsies (I know Nintendoomed since 1800whatever blah blah blah, I really think it could happen this time tho), or they'll just try again because they have enough money to do that.

They wanted a slightly weaker PS4 with a slightly lower price tag. That's what most people here have been asking since The NX was first announced.

When they heard the hybrid idea. They weighed in the consequences and settled that the system might still be appealing for a $250 price tag.

Personally I really like the system. But it's obvious what people want. They've been extremely clear on that for years now.

This Eurogamer article that just went up perfectly illustrates how fucking bonkers their pricing is:

Before then, though, there remain a few too many question marks, while some of the answers that came this morning left an unsavoury taste. The price is the obvious sticking point (and in part you can thank Brexit for the inflation). At £280 it shows that, while the Switch is placed somewhere between a home console and a hybrid, it goes beyond its direct predecessors, eclipsing the £220 asked for the 3DS at launch and the £250 price tag for the Wii U. Perhaps more pertinent, however, is the £200 that the PlayStation 4 is currently going for - and that's with Uncharted 4 bundled in to boot.

Full article: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...arious-reveal-runs-risk-of-switching-off-fans

Basically the same for the rest of Europe if not worse.

I agree with you with that, maybe the main focus is the mobile app and it's make sense for the switch considering the fact that on the go you are not always on wifi (to do what beside chatting, idk)
I do hope though the switch would have the basic online functionalities on her own.

I hope the hardware allows for a quick price reduction because at $299 this thing won't outsell the Wii U.

Zelda looks great though, that was a near perfect trailer IMO.

Mario looks okay, everything else...meh.

I wanted this at 250€. Which was the actual expected price, not 300 as you said. Now this thing will cost me 330€, that is just too much. This is not a 330€ machine, it just fucking isn't.

Honestly, if there's no achievement system, I'm not buying non-exclusive games on a Nintendo console. I would have preferred to get Puyo Puyo Tetris on the Switch for portability but lack of achievements would be a deal breaker as they help me get the most out of my games.

My thoughts on the Switch

- presentation wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either, should have included more details, and starting with an affront (paid online) wasn't a good idea
- price as expected
- paying for online... well, I'm not impressed, but let's wait for the details
- launch Zelda looks very good, but still wary about open world
- Arms looks like a fresh approach to two player multiplayer action, interested in learning more
- 1 2 switch looks weird, but existence of a casual game does not offend me
- battery life is short as expected, I would have liked more but couldn't imagine that to fit this thin console - at least it has USB C
- Mario open levels .. sigh... I blame all of you who use 'linear' as an insult
- Xenoblade 2 might have actual good music, I like it
- Mario Kart soon after launch, nice
- Splatoon sequel, very nice, but I'm going to be a bit disappointed if it doesn't include a more fleshed out single player campaign; local mutliplayer with multiple switches very nice
- Bomberman still one of the most fun multiplayer games
- Sonic... exists...
- 3rd party support... question mark

So some positive, some negative.

249 was the expected and reasonable price tag
or 299 pack in
here I should spend 400euros to play a single switch game

xbox one S cost 279 with 1 game and the ps slim is around 299

switch hasdifferent but also infrerior hw and cost more (without even counting the thinner library it will have and the paid subscription for an online service that has everything to prove)

Damn dude that's a harsh price tag, the thing already is expensive, but damn. I feel for you.

:(

Or you could buy the Wii U version, dump it and play it at 4k in CEMU on a medium PC instead of 900p on Switch. There's your superior version.

Thanks for reminding me. I'll be doing just that. Hopefully without issues.

Two things

1) Wait and don't buy at launch until you get the info you want
2) Buy from NZGameshop (probably an aussie variant) which comes from the UK and tends to be cheaper for games than local.

Of course I'm waiting. There's absolutely no way I'm paying that much now. I just don't understand why there was lack of info on the console. I might've done it if Mario Odyssey was released March 3 but I wouldn't have been happy still.

The tech isn't good enough for $300. It just isn't. This will IMO bomb harder than the Wii U because it just isn't nearly impressive enough on that front and doesn't have enough first party titles or a long enough battery life to warrant it.

I mean, what it comes down to is price + games. And they failed on both ends, it really is like they've learned nothing. The thirst for a mobile tablet with almost no games to play on it does not exist, they're making a huge miscalculation. People love their phones.

So if the targeted user base is the hardcore Nintendo fan, which it clearly is, why would they throw their Wii U away for this? It doesn't play Wii U games and Zelda is already coming out on the Wii U.

Well I liked it ( the presentation and the console) just a little rough round the edges in spots.

Seems like a hard sell to the average consumer... gaffers are the core demo for these kinds of products and despite liking it you even admit to it being "a little rough round the edges". I was extremely excited about the switch presentation today, was left feeling extremely underwhelmed...perhaps the hype just boiled to the point where any type of announcement would have ultimately underwhelmed, but alas i no longer see myself buying any nintendo products in the foreseeable future when that wasn't the case just a few days ago...just cannot justify spending that much on what I can only assume is an under powered console (in comparison to Xb1 and ps4) just to have the ability to play nintendo games at home and on the go.....i don't even care about the online service their offering...i actually think thats one step in the right direction...unfortunately the price of the switch is two steps back imo.

Are you honestly satisfied with this launch games list? At that fucking price?

I separate the price from the launch games as the price is the initial invest I do for later games as well. I am not very happy with the price but I am okay with it as I think its a really powerful handheld (although its quite a weak console).

For the launch games lets see

Zelda - Super stoked
1,2 Switch- maybe
Bomberman - super stoked if 16 players local are supported (8 Switches two joycons each)
DQH 1+2 - I was deliberating to buy DQH2 on Vita so yes I might get that
Nobunaga - no, but if its in english I may buy it.
Puyo Puyo Tetris - Yes at a decent price
Disgaea 5 - Yes
I am Setsuna - Maybe

Thats okay. I would have liked some WiiU ports like Smash but Mario Kart 8 is around the corner and Arms honestly looks really good.

They could have focused more on price. Do they really need the joycons at all? The removing is cute but built in controllers like the vita would have been simpler and way cheaper. No need for additional radios, batteries, gyros (just have one in the main unit). No need for the wrist straps or joycons grip. Could easily have cut $50 from the price.

pack-in 1-2-switch as a taster of what the joycons can do, add perceived value and try to build some positive word of mouth through shared experiences.

Paid online is just hubris. Nintendo cannot justify charging for that and I hope they abandoned that idea before it starts. First they are chasing in the online space and aren't in a position to have the luxury of charging, and secondly I doubt they'll have the critical mass of third party titles to justify paying for it. I assume they're hoping Pokémon and/or splatoon forces people's hands

Personally I think they should also have included a second charger or at least another USB-c cable due to just how shot the battery life looks to be.
