Oh man, I am so ready to return to Yakuza after all these years. Hyped for 0! Honestly a GOTY contender if it is anywhere near 2 or 4 in terms of quality.

(My ps3 broke so I can't play 5 :'( Eventually I will buy a new ps3 though)

A lot of people who have already played the game have ranked 0 as their 2nd best in the series or tied with Y2 as the best.

So yeah, this game is for sure a GOTY contender.

I heard a rumor that they were also going to be remaking 2 with the Yakuza 6 engine. Is this true?
There's been absolutely no official information regarding this and I haven't heard of any rumour of the sort.

Though tbh, it's not COMPLETELY outside the realm of possibility. Yakuza 2 is the best one, it's difficult to get a hold of (depending on where you live) and they need a game to cover their release schedule until the new one and a remake of Yakuza 2 would be a relatively safe way to do that.

But it's also improbable because Yakuza 6 didn't even have
the whole of Kamurocho
and then you're suddenly throwing in a second city (Sotenbori) in the new engine.

If they're remaking Yakuza 2 with the new engine that would be great. I hope the game is more optimized than 6.
I'm personally OK with using the older engine they used for 0 and have 60 fps gameplay.

One of the things I'm looking forward too with Kiwami is as well as loving the first Yakuza game this will be my first time playing the first game in japanese with the cast I know and love. I have a real soft spot for Yakuza 1's dub but I've no interest in ever playing it again with those voiceovers.

I don't think 2 in 6's engine is beyond possible. I mean look at the tech demo of 6 that was released last Feb then look at the full game. They improved so much in just a few months. I believe the team might be able to manage it.

0's engine makes more sense though, the amount of asset reusage they could do would mean the game could probably be made relatively quickly, only a couple of small new areas and characters need to be created in the engine, the rest can be recycled from 0 and Kiwami etc.

Yes, if they reused 0 and Kiwami's assets then the game becomes considerably easier to make. I guess we'll just have to wait and see though I hope we get an announcement soon.

I haven't really followed Yakuza news for the Japanese versions but don't they usually announce this stuff at TGS because I remember Kiwami being announced there.

Yeah, I've followed the last few game announcements and its usually around about August/September at TGS that we hear about new games in the series - Kiwami and 6 were announced at the same time two TGS's ago, I believe Ishin got a teaser trailer in August a few years back before a full blowout at TGS. So I believe if we are getting a new game from the series we'll see it in September.

Don't know about JP version but Chinese version is available in HK Store. Go to the demo section of store on your PS4 and you can find it next to the Y6 demo.

Yea, Yakuza demos tend to disappear from both Western and Japanese stores after a while, though I still have the demo for Zero from JPSN on PS3.

Strangely enough Ishin's demo is STILL up even after Zero's was taken down...it's really odd.

It's really up to RGG Studios to decide how they want to proceed, they would have to rebuild the Osaka section again if they do decide to remake 2 on 6's engine (it was already done for 5/0). Personally, I wouldn't mind either option, I just 2 to be remade and brought over as I've always considered 2 to be the best story of the series.

WAIT WHAT

Is this true?! Game of FOREVER! Definitely my favorite in the series!

haha i think so far that's just us fans assuming they're gonna use the new engine (0/kiwami/6) for another remake, i forget if he mentioned the possibility in an interview or what, but we know he's working on something and there's no new yakuza announced for this year yet, so that's the hope!

After watching the entire AJ stream, I can see that he is ignoring a lot of stuff (mostly unintentionally) so it's no wonder he isn't enjoying the gameplay that much.

Hmmm, I can make a little bullet-point-thingy picture for him, giving him some tips (like check the freaking "Abilities option" in the menu) so he can play the game better but I'm not sure he would notice a single tweet. Hmmmm... what do you say YakuzaGAF? Will you help me tweet the picture to him a few times so he would actually notice it? Give the word and I'll get the picture ready.

Yeah, you can still get the Ishin demo in HK PSN as well. I think people should just purchase them in case SEGA decided to put them down eventually.

Post it here bro, I'll tweet it again to him.

I haven't watched his stream, but I'm glad he's coming around and giving the game a bit of time. I hope he sees thru the clunkiness and jank and just appreciates the game for what it is.

And I agree with the previous poster, a negative review is better than no coverage at all, so long as its not a complete disaster 0/10, 1/10 but that doesn't look to be the case.

it wouldn't them any good, when they're taken down, they disappear from a person's download list...kind of why I STILL have the Yakuza 5 demo despite owning the Japanese and English releases.

I meant purchasing and downloading them :)

Tweeted it to him :)

His review can literally help the series immensely if he likes it.

I played the jap. demo version yesterday and I absolutely loved it, 60fps really helps it, I love the enhanced feel to the combat, it's so snappy and responsive, man I'm not sure it was smart to download it, now the wait is that much harder.

btw. I streamed it to my friend [after inital troubles, not sure why the game didn't allow me to] who doesn't really like the series and after I showcased him some combat, heat moves etc. he got a little pumped, people really love watching them.

Done.

I'll tweet him again later tonight.

A screenshot of Yakuza or Kazuma together with the tips would also help to catch his eye in his feed.
Thanks guys.

I wanted to use the Kiryu & Majima wallpaper but those would've made reading the texts harder so I decided to go for something subtle.

This maybe old news but Sega Europe confirmed on twitter that EU PS store is not getting a preorder version . Will be released on launch digitally .

I'm on mobile and can't be bothered copying the tweet but it's there in one of there replies to a question .

Yeah, I'm partial to either option if 2 does indeed get remade one day. I'd love the game to run at 60FPS as that makes the combat feel so smooth, but I love the new visuals and gameplay tweaks 6 gave the series (no loading, improved visuals, physics etc.) but they'd have to do a lot to get it up to the standard of the second game - such as adding in loads more weapons, heat moves, areas that are not present in 6 etc.

But ultimately I too just want a remake of 2 to bring it in line with the other games in the series. But if they do remake 2, I want them to do it right as it'd be such a shame for the best game in the series to get a bad remake.

God, the wait for this game has put me in a weird funk where I have no motivation to really play anything else. I have so many great games in my backlog but the only game that I want to play is a Yakuza game lol.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
For those who've played the JP version .. how easy is it to miss side events ?

I ask because something like Yakuza 5 had a *TON* of side quests that would trigger if you were at a specific point in the map during specific story events otherwise they'll be missed.

Things like that are a bit annoying and I hate to have a sidequest guide open with me so I know where to be to trigger one. I've already bookmarked a few import Yakuza 0 guides if i need to, but hope it's not the case.

Yakuza 5 didn't have any missable side quests though? It was all marked on the in game map for the first time in the series too.

really ? i could swear it was all unmarked :p .. maybe this is one of my senior moments, maybe I'm thinking about earlier games in the series.

When is the embargo up? I could get this and GR2 at the same time but since I really won't be able to play both simultaneously, I'd figure I would just get one later...

I love Yakuza but Yakuza 5 soured me a bit.

I just played 5 for the first time recently and they were indeed marked.

Though I still missed one for Haruka and didn't manage to get to
Amon
:(

There were a few sidequests that were chapter specific.

All of Yakuza 5's side stuff is marked by "?" icons on the map. There are no missable side missions in later Yakuza games (4 and up basically), with 0 you can unlock a item that lets you view side mission start points on maps, and then once they begin they should be marked on your map from that point on.
Yakuza 1&2 had missable side missions so if you progressed to far in the game, you might miss some, and if you choose wrong options in some side missions, you might miss some (its worth pointing out Kiwami fixes those issues from Yakuza 1, so you can't miss any side missions on that one).
Yakuza 6 doesn't mark side missions on maps until you start them either, which is half the reason I didn't do all of them in my first run, so I'm catching up with the rest of them in Premium Adventure mode.

Thanks for the confirmation guys. The side quests offer most of the exp points in these games so I wouldn't want to miss any. Unless they're some gambling specific one's, which I would gladly miss :p

I remember Yakuza 3 might have had a few missable quests because of character deaths later in the story.

yea, earlier games didn't provide clues to side missions and made it so you had stumble/track them (which worked in a randomness of life kind of way). It wasn't until 4 that they started telling you where you could find them.

January 19th.

Yakuza 5 was too bloated and story wasn't as good as Yakuza 4, so I know where you are coming from. But everything we've seen and heard from Yakuza 0 indicates that it'll be one of the best entries so if you are already a Yakuza fan then you certainly don't want to miss this one.

I just realized the Prime price means I'll only save $7 max if it drops to $39.99 in a couple of months or so. In other words, I should just get it.

Yakuza 0 is very different from Sleeping Dogs. Take a look at any gameplay trailers, and you'll notice it right away. Congrats on your first Yakuza experience.
