Hot off the presses. Digital Foundry got their hands on some leaked papers on Scorpio.

Zen seems to be very unlikely. Who were the ones betting their avatars?

Whoa! Watching now.

Edit: Just finished. About what I was expecting, but I fear there are going to be a lot of disappointed fans. Seems like a slightly more powerful PS4 Pro. Their approach even seems pretty similar to what Sony is doing with the Pro, considering they still maintain there will be no Scorpio-exclusive titles.

Article: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/d...ace-to-4k-how-scorpio-targets-ultra-hd-gaming

PlayStation 4 Pro has offered several titles with high performance modes running on unlocked frame-rates - and notably none of them has managed to double performance consistently from 30fps to 60fps. Microsoft makes no claim that Scorpio is able to do so either and instead suggests a compromise - running GPU elements at twice the speed, while CPU-bound elements are interpolated. A move to far more powerful Zen cores would almost certainly make such advice redundant.

That's gonna disappoint people if true.

I was about to make a post on the article, you beat me to it.

Of note:

The second major technique it advocates is 'sparse rendering' - which is better known in the post-PS4 Pro era as checkerboarding. Not only does Microsoft advocate the same technique for Scorpio, it also cites the same impressive work by Ubisoft seen in Rainbow Six Siege - to the point where the exact same presentation shown to me by Mark Cerny a few months back is referenced in the whitepaper.

Glad to see.

Of course eSRAM is gone with 320GB/s... the main RAM Aline is faster than eSRAM.

And hints to no Zen... most likely a Pro with better GPU and memory.

And checkerboard...

So a more power console than Pro for console good for some multi plat games end of 2017 and onwards

Doubling the Gpu or even trippling it and just increasing the clock on jaguar Cpu will not gonna cut it.

I hope Its fake.

Although looking at the recent tweets by Phil, hardware is out there somewhere,so might be true or earlier build.

Is this the honest conclusion? That it won't be much different than the PS4 Pro?

I think what he means , We are hoping for Ryzen and vega , so that is not happening , but obviously it will be 6 tf , higher than Pro.

That is why they are looking in an alternative to run the CPU code at 30fps while the GPU code runs at 60fps.

Think like game logic at 30fps and graphics at 60fps.

AMD didn't have anything better in CPU terms.

PS. 30 and 60 fps is just an example... game logic runs at ms.

It's not like they don't want to something different, it's AMD can't give them something different til 2018.

Was interested until they cancelled Scalebound.

With next to no exclusives, this becomes the world's most powerful paperweight in my eyes.

This could actually help the Switch's sales from gaming enthusiasts (who can look beyond specs), but the average consumer won't even care about the power specifics beyond the marketing.

Faster doesn't automatically mean lower latency, which ESRAM excels at. Like Richard mentioned in the video, it's kinda strange to see not mention about latency of ESRAM vs new RAM setup.

Scorpio.

the best thing about this news is that they arent allowed to make Scorpio only titles. this makes it just a mid gen upgrade instead of a new gen console. i think

I'd be in the dick
Sounds good to me.

I personally am a fan of these 4K reconstruction techniques results for the power savings so I'm glad MS is talking about them too and not just sticking to their real 4K chest beating after the Pro specs were revealed.

Glad to see people taking leaks as fact.

I don't see any problem with people speculating what the leaks mean. You do give us a good reminder that we need to be less trusting of nebulous sources or the board will get burnt up just like with Switch.

Like Fp16 and Fp 32 , hmm

Disappointing for those that hoped for a quasi-generational leap.

Relieving for those that bought an Xbox One S and were afraid of 'Scorpio exclusives' (even if they were just de facto exclusives because of super shitty performance on the OG Xbone).

also, weren't the PS4 pro and Scorpio leaks pretty spot on (with regards to hardware power, TFlops), even pre-announcement?

Also, seeing as the CPU is not getting any kind of massive upgrade, it'll still need the power of the cloud for Crackdown 3?

Wasn't the Scorpio only ever supposed to be a year-later upgrade of the PS4Pro? It's not a new console generation, they've said that repeatedly.

The savior is dead. Switch won't be so behind in power after all.
Not sure if joke post as Switch not even as powerful as the 2013 consoles Xbox One and PS4 it's just slightly above Wii U. Now with Pro versions of these both the difference is far too big now compared to Switch

Low latency mean almost nothings for games... that is why GPUs focus in bandwidth over latency.

Latency is more a needed for OS tasks (general out of order compute tasks).
