PS4 System Software Update 4.50 Features Detailed

Ah. As expected. So it's basically a high level toggle, as opposed to low level code where the script functions are programmed.

Good. :) hopefully this will help stem the tide of bullshit certain companies think pass for 'dynamic themes.' I've been working hard the last year to push only realtime, 3D, HD themes with truly dynamic features, so hopefully they will stand out a bit more.

Yeah those companies that charge you £1.69 for a fucking JPEG are the worst. Been burned many a time.

Next they should add the separation between updates and game files so you can delete game installs without having to re download the big patches.

You can download and install applications directly to your extra storage

I saw that, it just seems odd the way they say

Also, all the applications saved in the external HDD will appear in the Content Launcher of the Home Screen so it's easy to keep track of what apps you launched recently.

Like of course they would? Unless somehow you have to transfer the installed games to your internal storage to actually play them, and so its a 'feature' to have them show up in the content launcher even when they are on external storage?

edit: they say install, not play, which is what I was referring to. They don't say anywhere you can play them.

with the way patches work that's impossible. patches aren't descrete files that are separate from the main data. it's a diff

I appreciate that they did actually detail that applications (games) from the external will be placed in the existing content launcher instead of simply being an [External HDD] menu option in the content launcher where you'd have to navigate to in order to see what's actually placed on it. So it's not a case of "of course they would".

TFW base PS4 doesn't have USB ports on the back and plugging in an external hdd on the front would be a nightmare because of your current setup.

No 3D Bluray on PSVR Impressions? I may have missed them, but I want to know impressions and how it is handled.

Is it still simply cinema mode or is there a different layout/theme?
Is it using the camera for tracking now to help with drift?
How effective is the 3d effect implemented?
Are there 3D settings/sliders to help with depth etc?

I'll test this as soon as I test external drives between multiple PS4's, should have a post here within 2-3 hours.

Are there any contraindications to choose an external drive vs an internal one? In terms of speed or other performance issues...

Does PS4 still differentiate between disc and PSN installs? Can I now grab a disc install from a different user and just buy a license on PSN?

Gave this a very quick test.

Cinema mode.
Not sure what you mean wrt using the camera for tracking.
3D effect seems fine and convincing, although no settings/sliders I could find.

Other notes:

Image and sound ONLY output to the PSVR and its audio out. The TV screen stays black and mute.

All great stuff, but do you think they're ever going to bring their cloud save sync between multiple devices into the 21st century? It's extremely annoying to have to manually download/upload every save you want to use on a secondary device, and I never see any discussion about it.

Thanks.

What did you think of the quality of the image

So with the news feed thing I can finally post my video clips to the feed without sending them to an external service like FB? Can I tag people?
Edit: nvm

Well hopefully yeah... I think they already doing what we are asking if user only has 720p display. This basically means that they just need to copy-paste existing code but with 3840x2160 instead of 1920x1080 when dealing with 1080p display and pro. So far it looks like really annoying anti-consumer bullshit from Sony.
I get that the feature would be nice, but it only affects 9 games, and only on Pro. It's not "anti-consumer bullshit" for Sony to work on features and improvements that affect their whole user base first.

I still rock your NeoGAF dark theme cuz nothing comes close to it.

It fucking pisses me off. Someone will flip a digital blasphemy wallpaper with some shitty royalty free music, meanwhile I make every effort to make the theme software fucking sing:

So hopefully this changes the landscape in a positive way.

Sony should fund you a studio, so you can make those sick themes without any obstacles man. Your work is better than 98% of the themes on psn!

This is what I want to know too. Also, what's the size now and is it still paid?

Woohoo!!! External Drive Support for PS4 is extremely overdue and extremely welcome. With that feature ticked off I'm finally satisfied with the PS4 firmware.

Although future stability updates are always welcome!

Name change.
Music and video player with no need for USB
Compatibility for ps1 classics

We are so close.

With the sauce that's been added in the last few firmware, I honestly believe 5.0 will come through with name changes.

I'm pretty much giving up on PS1 classics at this point. It would be nice but I've come to realize I would rarely use it. Still, would make for a great bullet point on 5.0

Is this real? We are actually getting external hdd support?

Literally when I read op I thought it was a joke thread. So excited, now I don't have to change my 2tb in my og ps4 to my 1tb pro.

Are load times usually worse on external hdd drives?

I realize that it's a feature for small amount of userbase. But i am part of this userbase and decide to be a bit vocal about issues i care the most. Some people bought PRO to play downsampled TLOU on their 1080p sets, yes it was a small amount of people for which this game was a deciding factor for purchase but still. They basically advertised this feature before console release, downsampled TLOU was on show floors and in blog posts... hell we had access to this feature for some time after launch and they just decided to remove it altogether. It's kinda false advertisment territory.

Unless you're rocking an SSD on a Pro, USB 3.0 will be just as good if not just a tad faster.

This is a bit offtopic, but I have seen several videos about getting to choose another profile when you reconnect the controller to PS4. When I do it, it just automatically connects to the previous profile that was in use. Was somethong changed in an update, or is there some kind of setting that makes this happen?

Apparently it's meant to be bit better faster since USB 3.0 speeds faster than SATA 2 etc
