Tabata comments on Final Fantasy XV for Nintendo Switch, currently no plan

Isn't all work on Luminous engine dead anyway? They moved to Unreal Engine themselves. I fully expect a port of the next FF though, because of the easiness with which you should be able to port over (and Nintendo's suspected hegemony over Japan).

How about we start focusing on the games that are coming to Switch? It'll save us a lot of time.

A shame though. A JRPG like this on the go would he awesome. Especially with sleep mode.

Then we wouldn't have much to talk about.

Every Switch thread on Gaf is like,

Interviewer: Will we see X game on Switch?

Developer: We don't know

Gaf: Switch is too weak!

I'm sure they don't want to go through the trouble of porting a game engine that won't be used for anything else in order to sell a few extra copies that won't cover the cost of the port.

Developer: We don't know

To be fair:
"Is Game coming to PS4?"
"We don't know if it will run, we haven't done tests yet."

Are things that aren't said too often.

Well it was a significant engineering task to get the game running on the PS4 and Xbox One.
With a 30fps target. And running at 1600x900 on the Xbox one.

It's one of the best looking games on console.

Look at the dragon quest heroes 2 screenshots on PS4 vs Switch here:
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/20...i_on_switch_shapes_up_against_the_ps4_version

The game on PS4 doesn't look that complex at all and still the switch has a significant downgrade.

The consoles have 8 core processors with mid range desktop level GPUs.

It's a matter of power consumption, battery life and heat dissipation so the Switch can't compete.

Raw performance wise it'll compete with the Wii U / Xbox 360 / PS3 but with the benefit of today's architecture.

Nothing has been said or shown to say otherwise so I'm comfortable making that assertion.

I'm capable of reading English. Tabata is being diplomatic.

Also I've got a degree in Electronics Engineering and work in the tech industry. I may not be an expert but I have a base level understand to understand what I'm talking about.

Using DQ heroes 2 as a benchmark for Switch is ridiculous considering A) The first game running on Switch looks better and B) Fire Emblem Warriors by the same developer,on the same engine looks a lot better.

DQ Heroes looks like a port of the Vita version.

G: Is there any possibility for Final Fantasy XV to be released on Nintendo Switch?

HT: There are no Plans, it wouldn’t run…

G: It wouldn’t run at all?

HT: It might run… But we haven’t conducted the proper tests on whether it would run properly on Switch or not, so I cannot say for sure.

G: Will it come to Switch

HT: Switch can't run it

G: Really

HT: I don't know, I haven't tried.

No? Their next game runs on Luminous.

also lol at easiness of porting . You guys think there is some magic on unreal engine that lets port the games to tablets really

Good, seemed pretty obvious it won't happen.
Would be quite a waste of effort too, I'd rather them put that effort into adding more to the game.

Yet you chose to compare the switch to an pad or android tablet

Yes. To devices that consitiute the majority of sales for SoCs which is the location where innovation happens.

The iPad costs at least double. Has a higher resolution screen and uses Apple's ARM CPUs which are the best on the market.

The Google Pixel C, which is an android tablet, has an Nvidia Tegra X1. The Switch is an evolution on that Design.

Lol their engine can barely run well on a PS4...

Yeah imagine the performance you get on both the PS4 and Xbone then imagine it running on the Switch....that shit not gonna fly.

Also you would think if Square really care for FF to be on Nintendo platforms they would have, by now ported some of the mainline games that haven't appeared on a Nintendo console since 6 and not just produce more spinoffs to satisfy people.

I actually think FF XV would sell decent on switch, I mean Bravely Default sold well on 3DS and any extra sales in Japan would be good for SE, but it definitely would be miracle to make it run.

Wasn't it Laura Kate Dale saying this was coming?

^Haven't we learned that these "insiders" can't be trusted?
In what reality? As a console sure but as a handheld it's still cutting edge.
But given that this thread is basically port begging for a console game, it makes sense to contextualize the power (or lack thereof) of the Switch in the console space, dontcha think?

sure, because no one's making handhelds anymore.
it's not that much more powerful than the 5+ year old Vita

Sure but the poster I was responding to specifically mentioned "the handheld".

IIRC there were people who were sure this would happen prior to the january presentation.

Every new Nintendo system is speculated to be getting every major third party game before we actually start to get system details.

Third party Nintendo support is the Sonic cycle of hardware releases.

That said, I expect good Japanese support outside of the few AAA titles coming out of the region.

On raw numbers, it's 6 to 8 times faster than Vita in term of GPU and 6 times faster in term of CPU. That's without even accounting the architectural differences, considering Maxwell architectures is like magnitude times faster than Power VR SGX5 from 2009.

Wow.
You're actually doubling down on that and saying its worse for games than an ipad?

Why are people even asking if these AAA will be ported to Switch in the first place??? Hahaha.

The thing is using underclocked ARM chips that current high-end phones will probably outperform.

Ask for chu-chu rocket, monkey ball instead.

Fwiw highend mobile CPUs outperform the PS4 (Pro)'s CPU too.

Pancake Mix

Copied someone else's pancake recipe
Switch is not powerful enough to easily have the game ported, and the material cost of a 64 GB game card could possibly increase the total licensing fee to something Square Enix wouldn't want to pay. Dual-layer Blu-ray discs are incredibly cheap in comparison.

If you're a Final Fantasy fan, you should really pick up a PS4.

this boggles my mind.

everyone with just a bit of common sense and intelligence would know that AAA games on PS4/X1 are not possible on tablet based hardware like the switch.

yet there they go the interviewers:

"Dear Dev, we absolutely need to ask, will you bring your huge open world game that barely runs properly on high-spec'd consoles to the tablet based Switch?"

Devs be like "what the fuck man? what are you aiming at with that question?"

The Switch is a tablet.

Can an Android or iPad tablet run FFXV? No.

The switch is a mobile games console. Can the iphone run RE:Revelations? Sounds like you don't know much about hardware capabilities or game design.

To be fair, I don't either, but I have worked with Android and IOS development (not games) and been in the industry for a long time.

The Switch and its tools were designed specifically around game development. Android and iPad hardware is designed around general purpose computing. It's very capable hardware, but the OS is designed for it to run a lot of tasks at the same time, and there's a lot more overhead there. The Switch has a similar architecture, but no where near the overhead, and is not limited to the API's available in android and IOS.
