PS4 Tops January 2017 US Sales

I've seen that a million times, but it still gets a chuckle. Some of the US gaming media has been utterly embarrassing this gen.

Q4/Q1 2013/14 was a complete embarrassment and truly a dark period for the US gaming media.

I feel they've accepted defeat..... Until of course the Scorpio marketing money rolls in to town.

I've seen that a million times, but it still gets a chuckle. Some of the US gaming media has been utterly embarrassing this gen.

Folks do realize that the U.S./ NA isn't the only folks that play games, right? Sony is destroying the XBox One globally. Sony doesn't care about the sales for the U.S., more than they care about their sales as a whole.

The reason for decline for Sony is simple, there are a lot of PS4s out there. Probably double than the XBox, so it is natural that as Sony declines Microsoft will grow, however, at some point they will hit the wall of consumers that want the console have it and the folks that don't know or the parents shopping for kids are the ones left to buy the product.

There is always a wall for a product and a slow down is seen by the companies. That is why we have deals in certain months or toward the end of a quarter.

I hate all this plastic war non-sense, I enjoy playing on all the platforms this generation. Although I am gaming on my PC more lately. Still trying to finish Rise of the Tomb Raider, but Was working on a BloodBorne Platinum, DK3, and Gears of War came out. I do enjoy Gears on my PC, though.

Sorry for getting off topic, I just don't understand why it is always a battle with some folks. It is like gaming runs their lives.

Back on topic I see a very close battle for Software. I will be going with the following numbers:

Mass 750K
Horizon 630K
Zelda 550k
Nier 280k

I don't think you really know what your talking about. The PS4 hasn't sold double the Xbox in the US. In fact they are fairly close together. Saturation isn't an exclusive for the PS4 to continue to be down when releasing new models. The 360 sold like 40+ million consoles in NA. The ps4 is not tapped out at 15 or 16 million sold.

I don't see how that would be possible tbh...

sherley Nintendo has reserved at least 800k console of the reported 2m original run for the Us...
Yeah like the PS4 or Xbox would likely sell in the 300-400k range in march at its max. The switch will destroy that opening month

Please, do go on.

We are measuring hardware sales, not software. And ps4 pro is other hardware on another concept. They share the games but a couple years more and PS4 pro will be running exclusive software.

Just like atari 2600, 5200 and 7800.

Its worth noting that they were a failure back then and that's another reason to differentiate...

I'm pretty sure that I stated that right after I said globally. They more than likely have sold more double.

Edit: I was trying to state that the PS4 will start hitting a wall. I'm not interested in some war, I am interested in more than just the U.S. Where they have been outselling the XBox by a huge margin.

I genuinely wonder if the narrative will suddenly change after Scorpio launches. We've seen similar situations before.

When Scorpio launch, it will be count as both Xbox family and new gen.
It will combine with 1s against PS4 family in gen 7, while count as gen 8 sales vs Sony with zero unit until PS5.

also, did you hear about New Nintendo 3DS? → https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/sales/hard_soft/index.html

it's just "3DS family" or "3DS" in their reports

Will be market as next gen or something similar regardless. I can see Scorpio selling better than One S in that regard.
Besides, Xbox one numbers is not that high anyway, out sell it should be easy.
That is not how MS is marketing it since E 2016.

BTW where is the new exclusive software for it to be marketed like a nex-gen?

I do think some guys here in GAF expect Scorpio to be something it is not.

It is a mid-gen upgrade.

...... You can't be serious, man. I don't know what to say. Wapplew, I really hope you're a masterful troll because many of your posts make zero sense and as I said before, are made of pure optimism without understanding reality.

Pretty much everything we know about Pro and everything Sony has said points to this not happening.

So until it does, your argument is pretty much speculative in nature. Something that has a remote probability of happening in the future isn't a good case for why you want to separate the sales now, aside from just wanting to see how the SKUs broke down

I think the problem is to distinguish between worldwide sales what could be a 2:1 ratio and the US with an more even playing field with around 1.7 million more PS4 in households than Xone.

MS has a better footing in the US and did good promotions for Xone and the Xone S is a really nice looking console.

In the US it is more than in the rest of the world a "close" race.

Sony should be very pleased, they hold their own and in front of Xone. Compared with the kicking of last gen with PS3 vs X360 this is a good situation for them.

The us gaming press has been like that for years now. That period was when the effort was in high gear and harder to deny.

Yep, now they can ride into next gen even stronger than ps3 tp ps4 if they don't make ps3 type mistakes.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

OMG people are still arguing the Pro should be counted as a totally different console and not included as part of the PS4 family? How about just getting separate numbers for the different SKUs but adding them up as a whole for PS4? You know, like pretty much everyone else does. The PS4 Pro is still part of the PS4 family. It's called a PS4 ffs.

I see combining the sales of PS4 and PS4 pro together still gets under some people's skin.
I don't know why.

Was no problem last gen when these companies did revisions.

Only difference this time is it's more than just a slimmer case or bigger HHD.

PS4 Pro
XBO S

These are still XBO and PS4.

Not 2600 Pro

There will not be pro exclusive software. I am surprised anyone believes that at this point.

I think he now knows it's fruitless to try to differentiate ps4 to ps4 pro or Xbox one to Xbox one S so he's doubling down on it instead of just taking the L. So we move on...

Ehhh no? the Slim still sells a lot more than the Pro. It's only 2.5-3 years until the PS5 is out. why would Sony release exclusive games on the Pro? they said they won't and it makes no sense to do that.

Yeah, to double down on that it wouldn't make sense for Sony to ignore the 45+ mil regular PS4s out there.

In which case the SKUs were replaced?

Xbox One were replaced by its slim version.

PS4 were replaced by its slim version plus Sony started to sell PS4 pro (in some time it will have its own slim version).

So you can talk ps4 family. But it's still is Xbox One S v PS4 Slim + PRO.

The PS5 launch 2.5 years from now talking is so legit as my affirmation about PS4 pro exclusive games.

But hey, there is another point of view:

Sony is already releasing games with PS4 PRO as development base. Look at NiOh features. Horizon seems to follow the same way...

So anyone can argue that the game as it showed only runs in PS4 Pro...

Lots of the preview footage of Horizon was on base PS4....in fact most of it was

And I don't even get your point about nioh. It runs and looks well on base PS4

You are forgetting that the XBO S had a CPU spec bump.

That's the reason why I mentioned it earlier.

Only difference between the 2 is Sony went for a higher, extra spec bump and MS decided to do the slim and spec bump in one console.

So it's XBO S v PS4 Slim/Pro.
