Horizon Zero Dawn Spoiler-free Impressions (for real this time)

The ammount of hate coming towards this game must be record breaking.

Specially from people that don't even own a PS4.

Not to say that Horizon isn't going to be great, buying it day 1 personally, but GAF's previous record of keeping hype in check in early impressions threads isn't good. If you read the early impressions thread of The Order 1886 you would think the game cleaned the table that year GOTY wise.

Cute.

Funny job, opricnik.
Isn't 4ch where the fake story leak happened?

As per Opricnik, he doesn't have a PS4 (PC gamer) and apparently he'd rather rent one than buy one to play a game he obviously is dying to have (Crash), if my memory is correct.

Its also the same game mention over and over again there is no pattern here or anything.

Nonsense, there was a lot of negativity with The Order well before release..... We also have hours of people playing it, not just a few people here, but the press.

Some people on 4ch played the game and here are some expressions. Game seems pretty mediocre from writings.

>Human AI is atrocious and you spend a lot of time fighting them.
>Stealth is laughable. Streamer was causing explosions and firing a machine gun looking weapon and enemies weren't alerted as long as he was a certain distance away or in a bush.
>Fog everywhere, day and night obscuring objects in the distance, this disappears when you enter photo mode for bullshots.
>Robo-dino hacking is OP and easy to do. If you initiate it mid fight they literally stop moving to allow you to finish, just get behind them.
>Multiple Brom tier cutscenes
>Bow and arrow sounds like you're launching spitballs and will be most of your combat
>Streamer "fast traveled" and it took well over a minute loading.
>Lots of invisible walls in an open world game

Hmm, I don't think I agree with most of this. Even if I did, I think the game has so many positives that outweigh the negatives.
>Most of my time has been spent against machines, not human enemies.
>I have no trouble alerting enemies lol. Machines are especially suspicious. Mind you, they function off sensors, so if you don't trigger their sensors, they don't notice you. But it's nowhere near MGS-tier stealth by any means.
>Fog isn't everywhere. The game is insanely gorgeous.
>...no it's not. For the first 10 hours you can't even hack anything more than a watcher or the horse-like machine. And it takes a while to do. I trust the balance that if you were to get easily knocked off by other aggressive machines while trying to hack, it would get frustrating quickly. Hacking isn't something that is like "insta-win" anyway. You take on a lot of risk in approaching an enemy to hack because the game is designed to give you combat advantages from a distance.
>Brom is the worst cutscene I've seen in the game. The facial animation remains that bad in some low-tier side quest cutscenes, but the voice acting is pretty good overall. I think Brom was intentionally made to sound ridiculous...I think you'll see what I mean.
>yeah unfortunately the bow and arrow comments are true but there are other weapons. 90% of the combat is projectiles.
>I haven't fast traveled yet.
>I don't know, I haven't really found invisible walls yet, but then again I don't try looking for them. The walls that look too high to climb are the ones I don't bother climbing unless I see the Uncharted-style ledge on them.

I've seen much more hate from other games. It's tame for Horizon honestly. You can easily ignored the people trying hate on it which isn't the case with other games.

Nah that is far from the truth .
That game was always mix bag even when people got it early .

These impressions have me interested... But I'm definitely waiting for reviews for the same reasons.

Also the last Killzone game was not so hot and Sony exclusives seem to plummet in price faster than most.

Huh? I feel like Horizon has gotten a whole lot of negative comments leading up to its release or keeping hype in check.

All i remember reading for months was "they made KZ lol."

So hyped for this game, but being super careful so I don't see spoilers.

I asked this question before but didn't get an answer. hopefully someone can help

This is the 1st game i digitally pre ordered off PSN. I've done it alot on XB1. on XB1 since I'm in PST time zone I can start playing the game at 9PM the day before release (because it's midnight EST) It also automatically downloads. How does it work for PSN?

Why are people wasting their time with opricnik? He's constantly been down on the game and is simply looking for confirmation bias, leave him be. Anyways happy to see even more praise heaped on the game from people who have actually played it.

I mean, the impressions haven't been anything crazy though. It sounds really good going off impressions but they are balanced with detail and (minor) criticisms. It isn't, "We GotY! GG did it! Best open world ever!".

?? Uncharted is still full price....Horizon won;t be dropping for a long time.

Check out this fog... It's a real problem.

I think a bingo card is soon in the works.

The Zelda BotW "similarities" keep piling up. XD There was also a big discussion about that game being so foggy.

I think the mist (that is what I'd call it) looks very nice and atmospheric. Yeah, it is probably also there to hide some LOD limitations, but mist was always used in art as something beautiful, evoking mystery and joy of exploration.

I think his point was it works both ways. anytime an "exclusive" get announced fanboys of the system hype it to hell and highwater and fanboys of the other system shit all over it.
Both sides are equally dumb. Hype trains for NMS and the order were ridiculous and both turned out to be crap games. I didn't get NMS not my type but I did beat the order. all 6 hours of it and 60% being cut scenes LOL.

His point was the order had glowing praise pre-release, which was totally false.

Omg that spitball line has me rolling 😂😂😂

I can buy it for $29 on Walmart.com with free shipping, $39.99 at best buy, and $29 at Amazon today.

But... Whatever you say.

They don't drop in price any faster then anyone else, and Horizon won't be for awhile, this is a tent pole release for Sony. Uncharted is nearly a year old.

Traversal feels a lot like The Witcher 3 mixed with a little Shadow of Mordor.

Quality of quests and politics and lore feel like The Witcher 3 also (disclaimer: I did not finish TW3. I got about 10-15 hours in before I got busy with other stuff. So take with a grain of salt from me)

At times the game feels like Assassin's Creed 2 in "feel."

But it has that characterized Sony Studios polish and lack of jank.

You're really gonna love this game.

Things were peaceful for Gravity Rush 2
Because not enough people bought it lmao

Sure but the hype train for UC2 and TLOU were crazy and we all know how that turn out .
Some will live up to the hype and others will crash and burn which normal for everything .

This, some games deliver some don't that's all there is too it. Pretty safe to say this game will deliver at this point.

How about this, they drop in price quickly enough that I feel confident I can get it for less than $40 by the end of summer?

All the first party games get pretty steep discounts fairly quickly now (except Nintendo). This isn't a slight against Sony, it's just sales on video games are way more common than they were 10 years ago.

Bloodborne hype was through the roof and Bloodborne still exceeded expectations.

There isn't any formula to this stuff. Just take the impressions for what they are.

Bad gameplay, Ubisoft collectahon type of missions/tail/tower etc, shallow characterization,
bad story(non sense ending).
Pretty graphics, okay animations, bad frame rate(on og ps4),

Those are things i expect.
Good luck renting that PS4 Pro.

The side quests and collectibles are such a tiny fraction of the completion percentage, like .5 of a percent. So if there are 20 main quests (3.13% per main quest, and I assume there are more than 20) will already put you at 63 or so percent, it will take like 4 or 5 times more stuff just to fill in the rest.
Cool stuff thanks for this.

That explains The Lamp percentage maybe?
